Zombtober (5) and LOOT

yes another of the Walking dead from "All out war" by mantic games. I  have struggled of late to  get much painting done at all. Mostly not in the mood so and I mean no offence to any involved I am glad that Zombtober is over. Maybe I can go back now to well you know! Or maybe you don't know.

Anyway here is the last of the Zombies for Zombtober I am pleased to have taken part but I am glad it is over for another 11 months. Although I do hope to take part next year.

The pics are dark because I took then before sun up this morning as I knew I would get no other chance.

Still another one done and put away and ready for a game now and all is right with the world. (or at least my very little corner of the world).

Last Pic is one for each week, just for contect and to see them all together and in one place. Not by any means a huge horde but just the start of a small herd. I hope next time to be in a painting mood and to get more things done, but I shall not beat myself up over the few I have managed.

And Finally and UNRELATED to Zombies I picked these figures up from Tim this morning for my first Bob force. It should be enough to get me a large enough force to get a game in, maybe 2. The figures are all IT miniatures and as I am a friend of the owner (Tim) I got quite a bargain. These shall go in the painting queue promptly and I look to have them all finished NEXT month.

That's it for now more again soon.

All the best Clint

Starting to BoB

This is the start of my Back of Beyond (BoB) force. Here are 2 " frontline" trucks from the WW2 range AND THIS IS A LINK. These are both miss-cast (so I get them free sometimes). I have decided to do BoB not in the usual 28mm scale but in the more familiar 20mm or 1/72nd scale. The reasons are clear to me. Firstly I do have the terrain already at that scale and secondly a club member (Tim) makes all the figures and vehicles I need. Okay that is a very slight exaggeration he does not make Chinese warlord or Afghan troops. But almost every thing else.

I shall be picking up an order from him at the club tomorrow. Which should give me almost all of a single force I need

Back to these trucks. I THINK (but do not know) they are both Russian of the era, The one on the Left I think is a Gaz AA truck which I think was a copy of the Ford Model A built under licence in Russia. While the one on the right (I am more confident) is a Zis  5v  Lorry. Both have a French inspired great war camouflage pattern. In the BoB any colour scheme is accepted and no one complains if the varnish on the buttons is the correct shade or that the epilates are the correct hue. This is because no one really knows and what is more no one really cares. So if that is your kind of thing within wargaming good luck to you, but you will not find it here (on this blog or this setting). The advantage of painting them like this is 2 fold. 1 I can then use them for Spanish Civil War without the thought of a repaint and 2 they are as likely t be correct as ANYTHING else. yes I could have painted them a dull green for the Russian front in WW2, but where is the fun in that.

Rules wise I will be using "Triumph and Tragedy" which I purchased last weekend. And being really honest I think they are good. Simple and clear and while not a competitive set of rules, I for one, do not think the setting and period call for a set that is competitive. So not for rules lawyers at all. Which suits me. I am not planning on doing a rules review other than they are 40 pages long and soft cover.  They cost me £12.00 and as far as I am concerned good value for money. Yes there are things missing but what set of rules do we not think that about. Anyway I hope to have a BoB game by the new year (or there abouts) and will show my treasures tomorrow (figures I got from Tim).

That's it for now. More BoB talk soon, I hope, maybe a bit more tomorrow when I post the Zombtober post and my club loot.

Until then have fun and enjoy as much as you are able.

Beau Geste (or Carry on Follow that camel, I will let you decide!)

Yes I have enough figures for a trial game. The problem is, and it is not really a problem, more an issue to work around. Anyway the problem is people turning up at the club with no plans and hoping to squeeze into another game. They are not to blame, I do this any number of times in a year. But as it stands I DO not have enough figures for them to do this in a FFL (French Foreign Legion Game), Given a few months it will not be an issue, at all.

But at present I only have 7 FFL. I have enough MOUNTED Arabs But not enough dismounted Arabs so maybe after a few practice game up the shed on my own I can invest in some more. The good news is that TIM down the club (LINK) makes them. you may have to specifically ask for FFL as they are WW1 French Conversions and I do not think they are on sale just yet. But he is a nice guy and will probably sell some if the money is right. Anyway all the terrain is built and as mentioned the Arabs are painted. So finally at very long last here are the first of the FFL.

They are 20mm NOT 15mm or 28mm, a proper scale 1/72. (No one knows what 28mm is due to scale creep and while some call 15mm 1:100th scale it is closer to 1/123rd scale if we are being purist! as a man at 1/100th scale would stand 17.78 mm tall and not 15mm)

Climbing off soapbox these are 20mm or 1/72 nd scale.. As mentioned above they are all IT MINIATURES (follow the link above) should you want any.

I plan to use an adaption of the "Songs of Drums and Shakos" which in my head I am calling "Songs of Blades and Kepis" I only really need to re-write the points costs for each side and we are good for a game. However that is at least 1 month away (the Game). Due to other commitments down the club and a show, maybe 2.  So as ever my mind is faster than my paint brush.

That's it for today, just 7 FFL finished and a lot of waffle.

A world afalme... well nearly.

Well as mentioned some painted figures. No not what you were expected. These are 20mm Russian Civil War figures by IT miniatures. The Donkey comes from the WW1 range. I think French, but could be British or German. Anyway we were talking about some interwar period games at the club and I had these in the painting queue and so I finally took the plunge and got them painted. They are not brilliant but they are at least painted and look about right for some "20mm BACK OF BEYOND" games which will most likely never happen but a squad ad a supply mule finished anyway.

Thanks for looking, more again soon.

All the best Cheerio
