Repair, Repaint, Re-touch, Re-use!

Today I have been looking at my old Bretonians. I have come to the startling realisation that I can use so many as a Lion Rampant base for an army! YES I know it is not all a straight swap. My Grail knights on Pegussi (Not sure how to spell the plural of Pegasus ) for example cannot be used! And while not a balanced force I can field the following.

60 Longbowmen. Yes some shall need a repaint. Typically the ones I Picture.

I have an additional 3 units that just need dusting of and re-organising. I shall come to those in a later post no doubt.

Each of these units shall need re-paining, tidying up and different liveries! Blue and white is so 5 years ago! Actually I shall put them in different liveries so they actually look like a different force, and nothing to do with fashion. My other 36 are all in Red and Blue so feel free to suggest another colour scheme if you want. But these shall be a different force so a re-paint in different colours is needed.

More of these in a future post! But that is a total of 8 points and should (I hope) be quick to finish>

These knights need a tidy up (and in some cases a glue). But 6 Mounted "Men at arms" (yes I could if  I chose use them as Mounted Sergeants). All the Comparisons on the horses match and I have 4 left over. Again they have a blue and red motif and while they do not have helmets a quick tidy up is all they really need. And sort out the banner! It is Just possible I shall get rid of the yellow stripe! Time will tell!

The last unit. Again in need of  some slight refurbishment is another 6 mounted "Men at arms". Yes the banner does need some work but not much ad mostly regluing! As you can tell I was on my very big flag phase. Yes it is quite a whopper! (About 2x as long as a horse From main to extreme end of it's tail).A bit of work to do but not all that much! I Might if the mood takes me address the green knight as the rest are either red, blue or Yellow as a dominant colour and the green seems out of place.

I think I still have a few knights from the GW Bretonia range lurking unpainted in forgotten boxes so I shall need to look them out asap!

So here id what I shall be working on in my quiet moments if not over-come with eat ! 2 units of archers. And a tidy up of the mounted figures. Considering they have not been out of the box for 15 years I do not feel to sad to notice a few things I would do differently and a few repaints and repairs! But as we all know there is always more to do when it comes to wargames.

Side-tracked WIP

Yes I have been side-tracked! I make no excuses, NONE what so ever. I was feeling a bit "Blar!" due to the weather and decided to treat myself. So I purchased 2 of the shown rule books. (I already hade "Dragons Rampant").

Tim at the club has recently been talking about 15mm Aztecs. So I looked into that first. Aztecs and Conquistadors are made by a few companies. However only "Eureka" as far as I could see make any other figures suitable. ( So no Mayans, Mixotec Zapotec, Amazonians etc in 15mm UNLESS In wanted to ship them from the other side of the planet!) As they was an expensive option I decided to pass!

So I bought the rules!

My next dilemma was to get Knights in armour in 20mm.  I checked and other than soft plastics I was also out of luck! I wanted 20mm as that was the scale of my desert villages! I tried Newline design and while they have biblical which were tempting I wanted Knights in armour! I asked around the wargames club and very nearly purchased some soft plastics but would not have felt content so:

Again no such luck!

Finally I remembered from my youth a GW Bretonian army! Now I grant you for a GW  army it is not huge! But for "Lion Rampant" I should be able to put a few units together! (At least 5 maybe more)

So I have started to rip apart my suitable Bretonian terrain (very little... ok only this watch-tower) and have started to convert it to a more crusades type setting.

Yes it will need a repaint of course! But more than just a repaint It will need the whole of the lower section remade! Not as many Lakes and marshes in the desert as Bretonia! And NO need for  an arm coming out of a lake!

In the coming weeks I hope to get the lower section finished with a gateway a stables and walkways all around! Krack Cervalier it will never be, nor does it have pretentions of being. Just a simple tower in the desert suitable for a few games!

I shall have to buils some 28mm desert dwellings as well. (But not too many) as well as some other bits and bobs.

So now you know what I am working on in spare time . Peter  wants me to paint some Vampires for him, and Matt wants some aeronef so when I am not doing those at least you have an idea what is happening.

If I get my act together next post will be some more 6mm sci fi!

Until then, take care paint and try not to get heat stroke!

All the best Clintr

Dawn and time to storm the castle. (no Not yet)

Ok it is not dawn and time to storm the castle. But the photos have that quality due to the light levels when taking the pictures. THIS WAS NOT DELIBERATE! I think it was just too early in the morning and the sun (or I) was not awake just yet. I could muck about with the light levels on the computer but decide against that plan.

So 5 newly painted Peasants with a variety of weapons including one with a sickle! £ of the weapons were broken over time so instead of pitchforks and scythes they just carry clubs. I am OK with that as too many pitchforks and scythes would appear wrong in my opinion. I still have more pitchforks and scythes in my lead pile so if no more break I will be happy.

At the end is a group shot of the 15 so far painted, and an acknowledgement that I am about 1/2 way there. Looking at the group shot I see I need more yellows and mustards and creams so that will be my plan for the next lot. But before I even start them I have Burpas and Zulus already primed. So MAYBE next week.

Thanks for looking today next post Monday and with luck a decent club game.

All the best to you and yours Clint

Peasents

While the Mojo has not returned it is slowly coming back. I wanted to paint something different and that was generally useful but not too taxing and that I was happy to muck up if need be. I did not muck it up!

So here are 5 (I think) Foundry medieval Peasants! Well I know there is 5 of them I am just not sure they are foundry but I will claim they are until someone tells me other wise.

All the colours are from the artist Pieter Bruegel (a Dutch renaissance painter circa 1525) and as he was alive at the time I am going to trust his colour choices.

Why am I painting peasants?
No I am not thinking about Wat Tyler, instead it has occurred to me that the game of "En garde!" we played a weekend or two ago did not have all the possible options. I was short of servants ruffians and general low value troops and I know a couple of people in the club DO value quantity of troops over quality of troops. So some farm larbourer types were always a good idea. So from left to right they are armed with : a side Axe (think hatchet but for trimming "Green Wood", Adze, pitch fork, felling axe, and wooden club. All of which would exist on a large medieval farm or timber yard so all are perfectly suitable for improvised weapons. Rummaging through the lead pile it seems I have a number of peasent types so I have prepped 5 more ready for paint. Mostly scythe armed so they should be along shortly.

The final picture is JUST to embarrass my cousin. I made her some Fudge and those that have had some will know that it is extremely rich so she has had her sugar rush for the day, that is for sure.
