Yes the title says it all. Just one Picture, I did take 2 others but they turned out not to be in focus! I am only claiming lack of skill on my part and not that the camera could not focus on the models due to the Camouflage. My bad NOT the Camera.
As you can see a basic sand coloured base, with grey dark brown and cream squares on it. If I was doing Proper Digital camouflage There would be more squares and it would be hard to work out the base colour, but I wanted the base colour sand to show through. Then just weathered (dry brushed a lighter sand tone (very lightly) and then two coasts of flesh wash over the top.
Overall I am not wildly excited by the result, but at least it is better than before. If I was starting again the brown should be a shade lighter and the grey a little darker, but overall not too bad really,
Thanks for looking today, more again soon.
They look good to me Clint. I find vehicle painting - camo patterns in particular - difficult as well. No matter what I do, it never seems to look quite 'right'. :(
ReplyDeleteI agree Cmnash. And even now I look at these and think I can do better. BUT as these are not to be in any on my major platoons I think I can get away wih how they look.
DeleteI have to agree with you, Clint - they're not bad but they are a bit bland. Sorry to be less than enthusiastic about them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bryan. I think you re right in what you say. let's just agree "nice but no Cigar" on this time out.
DeleteNice stuff Clint. I think they'll look suitably desert-coloured on the tabletop personally.
ReplyDeleteThank you Blax. I think the grey has worked out quite well, I would prefer it a shade darker to create a better contrast but over all I am not upset with the colours.
DeleteI like them. I think the rule for camo is 'less is more'. At least that's what I say and a few others I know, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Roy, I am aware of the phrase "Less is more". And in this instance you may be right. But remember Frank Lloyd Wright replied... "Less is more only if more is no good."
DeleteAlthough Robert Venturi later replied "Less is less!" personally whatever you believe is right!
Ooh, never heard of those responses before. I'll have to note them down.
DeleteThere is a whole architectural debate about that phrase. I had to study it back in the 80's so I can get quite pedantic about it...
DeleteI really hope no offence was taken. It was not meant. Robert Venturi is an American architect and not widely known outside the profession. Frank Lloyd Wright is very widely known though. (And also an American Architect but not working in the Modernist or international style!)
Sorry getting of my soap box now.
You're okay, I wasn't offended, or anything. I thought it was interesting when you first wrote it, and even more so after you've revealed the architectural part.
DeleteFirst time I heard the less is more phrase was on a painting forum after a chap couldn't understand why his denison smocks didn't look correct, on his 28mm WW2 Paras. Certainly was good advice, and I've benefited from it myself ever since.
Looks the part to me, you get the idea across without ramming down our throats so I think your being hard on yourself. The whole idea is to blend in so if it stands proud you are not getting it right
ReplyDeleteIan
Thank you Ian. I am always my harshest critic. But I do thank you for the very kind words.
DeleteEverything doesn't always have to be spectacular and sometimes the 'bland' fits perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI like these and to my eyes they fit the bill of being very usable.
Thank you Joe I think they improve after a few days . I am not put off doing more. Infact expect more to come in the next week!
DeleteWell, look at it this way: if your camouflage is too good then you'll never be able to find the model!
ReplyDeleteThey look fine to me.
Thank you C6. You have reminded me of the times I have lost 6mm tsnks in a game and only found them when packing up.
DeleteThey look fine Clint, although I would have had less base colour and more grey 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you matt. You may well be right, I will see how I feel over the weekend. You never know there could be another re paint.
DeleteThose are very cool looking AFVs. Well done Clint!
ReplyDeleteThank you Curt. I am still not happy with them. I just have to decide if I can live with them or need another re paint. As it stands I am living with the paint scheme.
