28mm Crimean war figures.

Here are some wargames Foundry 28mm British Infantry of the Crimean war. Firsty I know VERY little about this war or the uniforms and units so If I get anything wrong 10 Please tell me, so I can learn and 2) Bare with me as I am all at sea in this period.

Not knowing Matt provided me with pictures \nd I have copied them as best I am able in the hopes that they are right. A total of 6 riflemen each 3 to a base now ready for action. I have 12 more to do so you shall be seeing more of them soon. Well soon(ish) as I shall start the next 6 tonight.

In addition to the 6 foot-sloggers I have 1 mounted officer done. One more to do. I showed it last time unfinished. But now it n is finished better to reveal it complete and with the first stands of infantry.  With luck this will give some leadership to the men and allow some games to better be played. But on this score time will tell.

I had more than 1 enquiry about the make of the robot last time.  As such I went up the loft. Straight away I found the box the kit came in now stuffed with old decals. None the less it does show the scale 1/35 and the name "Crusher Joe" of the kit but as yet I am unable to find any ore of them. So if you are looking good luck and comments below on where to get them would be appreciated. (Not holding my breathe though)

Until next time, good luck, good gaming and may  the dice e favourable  to you and also hinder your opponent!

15mm Robot ( and sneak peek. Historical)

Firstly here is a robot model from about 30 years ago. RE-PAINTED. At the time I was using it as a 28mm model but now I feel more of a 15mm model. The joy of Fantasy/sci-fi is no one knows so it can be whatever you want it to be. No one knows and few (if any) care.

I am afraid I do not know who makes it or what it is for. I remember that our local toy store got some and as such I bought 3 (the other 2 are in pieces and are missing heads. But rebuilding them is for another time/post!

This was a very easy re-paint. Almost too easy, or embarrassingly easy. Just 3 colours of brown on the legs and a thin brown was overall. It really was that easy.  About an hour in all including drying time. In fact the base took longer!

I look forward to finding the missing pieces and getting the other 2 finished now. Obviously this will bulk out my 15mm sci-fi army and give them some mech support.  And we all lke a bit of mech support. The only conversion work is the adding of a gun to the right arm. Way back in the day (no not quite when dinosaurs walked the earth) GW used to do separate weapons and arms. Not for a long period, but they did, Anyway the weapon is a cut down "Lasgun" I just chopped it about and added it on. Mech  with guns is usually a good idea!
Just the mech and a random 15mm alien, (on the to paint pile)
and a random 28mm figure. Just as a size/scale cmparison.

Ok all Historical nuts can breath now. Finally some 28mm Crimean war WIP. Nearly finished ths mounted officer still got the face and the flesh and a few other bits to do, and a tidy-up. But it at least shows what I am working on for Matt. And that perhaps I have not been as lazy as I appear to have been. This is a 28mm Wargames Foundry and I have needed the practice in 28mm as it seem to have been a while. So I had best do some 28mm figs next!

Thanks for looking and more again in a day or so. Okay 2-3 days more likely!

All the best Clint

A Little Late, but crucially not too late!

I finished these two at 8pm last night. As such I decided to photograph them this morning. The are as I am sure you will already know two Foundry Crimean War British Artillery crew. AS such they are painted for Matt and he shall get them this morning, Barring accidents! (Oh why did I say that now I am just tempting fate.

I am sure you know the details by now. Foundry 28mm Crimean war that I still know almost nothing about.

Bought on eBay, more d6. I know  I know I am quite mad I have enough dice! So why buy more.
1) It's an obsession I can't help it!
2) I am looking for the lucky one. The one that will roll what I need when I need it!
3) Tim Has touched all my other dice! (Sorry mate I could not resist that comment)
4) I have worn all the luck off of my other dice.
5) I liked the pretty colours.
6) I want a set for show games!

Some of the above are whopping lies while other reasons are spot on. We all know that a factory only puts so much luck on a dice as part of the manufacturing process!! (That might not be true|)

Lastly the hot weather Dried up several of my paint colours. And as I do not use metallic all that often I found this guy selling samples reasonably cheap. All 6 colours cost me £5 including postage. So far I have to say they are the best golds/bronze/copper that I have ever used. I only hope that feeling lasts.  That should do for now as I have NO need to buy bigger and more expensive pots of acrylic gold. These were bought on a whim and I am not disappointed.

15mm sci fi. I have (I think) finally settled on my alien force and a quick bank check shows I can afford them (Out  of this years Interest..... JUST) so with a few chats today I hope to send off for them Monday. (Fingers Crossed)

That's it for today (Should have been yesterday) enjoy the weekend and play if you can or paint if you can't. Take care all the best Clint

Crimean war artillery

Yes I have been late posting of this last while. Let's just say real life has gotten in the way!

Anyway here is the last (for now) of Matts Crimean war artillery. There are 2 spare crew to paint and I shall get tem done SOON! I will start them today. I am also starting some medieval troops for myself! Just so you Know I have not given up on "Lion Rampant". Still enough of this closer to the showing!

Anyway another gun and crew for Matt and his collection. You may recall I have done one of these before (About 2 weeks ago!) and nothing new has been learnt between painting that and painting this. So just to recap. It is by Wargames foundry and 28mm figure size. Matt supplied a book on British troops of the Crimean war so I copied that for uniforms and details. The recent hot weather has dried up some of my paints so while I replace them the metalics were hand mixed. This has resulted in the gun being slightly "yellower" than it should be for bronze. Forgive me I could not help it. New paints are ordered and in the post as I type. So nothing else I can say about that.

The last few pics are of all the guns together. 2 crew to be added at a later date. But this should give you an idea.

Artillery train so far (I say so far as I have little idea what else Matt wants me to paint!)

Hope to post again on Saturday. Thanks for looking and more (I hope) soon.

All the very best Clint

TWO days late.

Actually no I am not! These have been painted for Matt and his Crimea collection. He is expecting them in 8 days time. Matt as I am sure many of you will realise likes big guns.  Perhaps the bigger the better.

Today you will see two Foundry guns and crew for the Crimean war. They are both quite large, but more details I am afraid I cannot give you.

I do have one more to do (started but not as yet finished). Which shall barring accidents be ready for next weekend. So You can expect to see another one mid week.

I cannot offer any insight as to what these guns were used or designed for. But the top one has 4 wheels and 4 crew. I did ask Matt if he wanted the officer with this one and he said yes. I only know that sooner or later it will be used against me!

The second gun only has 2 wheels! It lacks an officer so I Imagine Matt will use it to destroy some Russian position. And nothing to fancy or supposedly clever. But with Matt you never know. Again I suspect it will be used against me in some way. Having said that Matt is as likely to give me command of these 2 guns. You just never know!

Both guns are Wargames Foundry Crimean war range. Not a period I really enjoy but that is secondary. I mostly do not enjoy it because I know so very little about it. Perhaps in the future that will change.

Being Foundry they are  both 28mm in size But as mentioned not a period I know very much about! (That's probably because other than "Charge of the Light  Brigade" there have been very few films on the war.

Anyway more in 2 days, I have Aeronef and WW2 ready to show so it will most likely be one of those options as opposed to another gun!

Until then. Take care have fun  and roll some dice In (pretend) anger! All the best Clint

RA gun crew Crimean War

Yes Painted for Matt.  They are of course Foundry and 28mm in size. Very simply one 6 (or maybe 9) pounder and a crew of 4. If there had been a sergeant with the unit he should have a gold band around the hat but enlisted men had red. But no sergeant  so nothing this time to worry  about.  I doubt that will be the case next time.

While I have no love for the period it is a pleasant period to paint. (He says before Matt passes the Russians on to paint, which I am sure will take some getting used to!). Overall a nice bunch for the weekend.

As I know what they plan at the club tomorrow I may well give it a miss. It is not that I hate the period. Far from it! BUT I do hate the version of the rules they will choose to use.  Enough of what has not happened yet, As I ponder what I shall do next! (It may be more Lion Rampant, Aeronef or it may be something entirely different!) But I have a free afternoon so I know it will be something!

Anyway enjoy the weekend and with luck see you Monday!

Crimean Artillery

Yes 28mm foundry. And therefore yes they are for Matt. And NO he has not seen them yet. (Unless he looks here that is or maybe checks his emails on Monday when at work,)

I did quite enjoy painting them, they were far easier than the Hussars! British Navy gun crew of the late 19th century again I know next to nothing about so I took the colours from the Foundry web site so if I am wrong so be it, more to the point so are they. Matt did suggest all 6 figures to go all on one base. I did try it and while they would all fit without looking daft I just felt they needed a bit more room. I Know Matt is OK with that as he did say if it looks too crowded I was to base them separately.

This (for now and at least until next weekend) halts the Crimean war for me.  I still have a few commission pieces to paint for the club as well as my own stuff so I can honestly say there is a wide variety of things on the go. Including my Terrain boards.... but until I feel I have some more to say about them I will just plod away in the background.

Hope you get out in the sun and have a good time. If Not enjoy some painting and gaming and watching TV it is all up to you  as long as you strive for happiness!

All the best Clint

11th Hussars (28mm)

Yes more Foundry 28mm figs painted for Matt for his Crimean War project. These were not as bad to paint as I first thought. Yeah Okay they wee bad enough but that is because I am both out of practice and don't know the period so have to check every detail. Talking of details if you see anything wrong kindly let me know I have been as accurate as I am able but really no expert so bound to have made a mistake or two. Just better NOT to keep repeating mistakes is all.

Also I am not expecting a quick reply from anyone as it is Salute weekend and many will be at that or keen at least to see some show reports so this may slip under the radar!

As mentioned they are 28mm Wargames Foundry figures and part of the Crimean War range.

At the very bottom of the post I have included a jacket of the uniform which was used at the period. So feel free to check it and see if I got it at least a little correct. (I know you will anyway). I find Gold very hard to paint, it usually requires 3 coats to even begin to look correct. And these for example have 4 coats including a very light black wash.  I hate Painting Gold Acrylics it never looks right.

That's it have fun enjoy the weekend and get some painting done IF you get the chance!

Matts new Project

Yep 28mm Crimea war. I know a little about the Crimean war but really not much so tis I think may be a steep learning curve. Very steep indeed!

These are 28mm FOUNDRY figures depicting Lord Raglan and his staff. As mentioned I do not really know this period so if I make any mistakes please forgive me.  To me they were a nice bunch of 28mm figures. Luckily Matt did provide me with a pic to copy which I then did. Certain things were changed of course, like the base and the colour of the horses but overall I followed the picture fairly accurately.

I did look at certain paintings to get the uniform colours and did notice that some of the plumes on the hats were black. As the pic Matt gave me had white plumes though I went for white as I figured maybe they were either different regiments or even different ranks and that Matts pic was the correct one. I still have no clue so if you know better kindly let me know. I hasten to add I am not looking doe masses of information, just trying to get it right for next time.

The last (small) pics are the same pics but from different angles so you might get a better idea on the figures.

Finally this is not a period I am really into and while I have enjoyed painting them for a change I imagine I will very quickly become tired of it. They are not as bad as Napoleonic's and for that I am grateful, but still not my absolute favourite period to paint

Needless to say click the pics if you want to see them bigger.

Until next time allow me to dasy dream about more 20th century things.
All the best Clint
