Most things arrive at once!

Yes I had a spend. NO the Crooked  Dice items have not arrived. But here is what I did get!

First to arrive. (but I was out and had to pick up from the post office today was "OIL WAR". The  supplement for Team Yankee. I have yet to read it  but I am already thinking 6mm when I buy some infantry (that and a few aircraft should be all I need). Maybe a few extra tanks but not as many or as diverse as you might think.

The Force on Force rules are an old set and now as rare as Hens Teeth. That  aside I feel they will make the best use of "The Zone" books by James Rouch.

OKAY so what figures to use. Ehrm 15mm I think! I was hung up un 20mm for a long time but then I discovered TT Gauge model railways and while the buildings are expensive I feel they could be worth the effort! So to try it out I went and bought some vehicles.

And some figures. I suspect the infantry to be Plastic Soldier Company 15mm modern Russian. Anyway bought yesterday from Cavalier Books and arrived lunch time today. And as service goes you cannot beat that.

I also went to my local Games shop and bought a Zvezda Hind. And although this is supposedly a tad small for 100th scale is close enough

While there I purchased a box of Russian vehicles.  5 T64s and 2 BMPS The BMPs can either be mk 1 or mk 2 perhaps very simply with a turret swap. I wil need to open the box and have a look, but fingers crossed!

I also bought a new paint brush. Fingers crossed it will allow me to paint better!
Finally as an impulse buy (or  is it) I got a Wargames Terrain Workshop post apoc car A. Maybe I already have a use for it and maybe it is a gift for a friend! I shall let you Know when the time is right.
Another gift for a friend.
Nuff said  for now but fingers crossed.

Loot from Skirmish!

Spring Skirmish is over again. Check Big Lees blog for a show report. (LINK ) I shall do my show report tomorrow (I hope). Until then here is my loot (not much) from the show. I would have bought more but there was little I wanted at the show.

Only 2 stalls I spent money at.

Debris of war where I got 2 "Flying stands" This should push my 28mm Dieselpunk idea further.

Colonel Bills. 3 Lewis guns.... I hope to show them in place soon.
2 pots of paint. These shall be used and not detailed, Just a grey and a brown, boring but vital colours.
And just 1 pack of bases. All wargamers need bases and I happened to need large rectangular ones at the moment!

I have FINALLY finished reading these rules. (Last night) Yes I know they are old (very old) but I have a fresh unused copy and I  really do like them. So you  may see them again soon.

Thanks for looking and with luck something better soon. All the best Clint

Cavalier 2019

Firstly I am not doing a show report. There were a couple of good games but generally nothing stood out as exceptional. I am sure if you were playing those games OR if there was a particular setting or period you were interested in you would strongly disagree.

There did not seem to be either as many traders or as many wargamers as usual.  Again I could be wrong but that is just a personal opinion. NOTHING more.
So here is the swag, where I brought it and for what it will be used for.

  • PBI rules By Peter Pig. Purchased as a pre-show order (No money spent on the day so far) I shall of course be using this set of rules for WW2 battles in the Western Desert. More of this in a few days no doubt!
  • 1 pack of oval mdf bases. Brought from "Product for wargames". These are a mad idea I have for a conversion and it will probably come to nothing. So no more needs be said at this stage.
  • 2 free figures from Peter Pig. 15mm and very welcome they are too.
  • Kiki Blinder and 2 pots of  paint. I could have purchased more paint but the colours and manufacturers I wanted were not present so that was passed. Col Bill (AKA Stuart took my money and these were ordered before the show.
  • Back to the top right hand side!
  • 2 Packs of "Evil Henchmen" by Ironclad miniatures. Purchase as an impulse buy but my mind is racing and shall be painted and used quite quickly.... I hope.
  • 2 Desert Hills from "the Scene" reasonably well priced and quicker ad easier than making my own.
  • More peter Pig stuff! A destroyed Italian Tank 15mm western desert. And a pack of bases, 30mmx30mm "Plasticard" But if I am to do the western desert I feel this is the way to go!
  • Some TUFTS again suitable for the ww2 desert war. I am not sure who I purchased them from but I always need more and I always use them.
  • 1 15mm Italian tank kit. I will need to get at least 1 more, possibly more, to round out my Italian army in the western desert. I did not catch the trader but a toughly pleasant chap and I hope to encounter them again and I hope they have a few more of these about!
Overall a very good day and a good chance to catch up with  some traders and some wargamers.

Autumn Skirmish from my bit of heaven!

Yesterday I was at a small and local show. So I shall do a show report later, but first the loot. Not the biggest haul I grant you and Only 1 "Impulse Buy" . I say Impulse buy as it was pre-ordered but following the show I am not sure it is needed. Oh well I am sure It shall find a home in a project at sometime.
Here's what I got.
  • Spray Varnish. I had nearly run out so as easy to stock up at the show as to get anywhere else.
  • 4 Pots of Paint. All replacement colours except the Purple. Ony the 2nd Purple I have bought in my life and the first one (an old GW one) dried up in the hot weather.
  • 50mmx50mm mdf Bases. Yes I do need these and not for cavalry as has been suggested. Ray dis ask and I said I need them for Medic stands. (See later in the week)
  • And a Victorian Photographer. (This now turn out to be an impulse buy as I scrap some plans and move forward with others.

Things arising: Well this is out of Order. But following the show I was relieved to be left with a feeling of wargaming Brotherly love. But also some disappointment. I did have plans for games at shows next year but they have been quashed. However I do have New ideas. Victorian Photographer is no longer needed, but back to the 6mm scale which I love!

The games:

Medway wargames Society
Dave and Paul
Playing a 28mm Fantasy game

15mm Dragon Rampant.
This is my kind of game.
Would have quite happily swapped.
"The Old Guard"

Another game I would quite like to be involved in.
28mm Crusades "Soldiers of God "Rules
I forgot the club name

A Roman Skirmish game
Sorry I forget the rules and the club.
28mm if that helps at all.
(Think Broken Legions but not sure)

Maidstone Wargames Club
28mm WW1
Much more Info on "Whisperin Al's Blog"
I say this without checking as he was one of the players.

28mm Skirmish wargames Club.
North Africa 1918 French Foreign Legion against Berbers
Using their own rules.

"Privateers of London club
For once NOT doing a naval game which they tend to.
20mm, Unknown rules.

Milton Hundreds Club
(You meet in Sittingbourne so why you do not call yourself the
Sittingbourne Wargames Club, I do not know)
15mm Team Yankee Rules.

Herne Bay/Whistable club.
20mm WW2 Using Rules of Engagement (I think)
Larry and Dave
2 nicer wargamers it is hard to meet.

Gravesend (I think) put on a couple of games
Blood bowl or the right
and "0mm Rapid Fire (I think) on the left.

Our club Game. Yes it was 28mm Napolionic (A period I dislike because of the way others feel it is both important to get the details right (You cannot use that figure as it has the wrong colour buttons, they were Brass and not bronze!). You get the idea!

28mm Black Powder rules French vs Prussian
My start area
Peter and Alex opposite me
Graham on the right

Bob and later Gary were also playing French.
All tarrain and Troops were supplied by Tim

I got of to a good start and all my units could move in my first turn.
And then the Dice gods failed me!
I had about 3 turns in a row of doing nothing!
See Positions exactly the  same for me.
Luckily  Peter opposite was also luck with the dice.
And while he was at times able to shoot the Majority
of his Landwere did about as much as my French
Which is to say NOTHING!
Finally able to move my Hussars they charged the Skirmishers.
Which held!
Not sure that would have been a real life outcome but the dice gods hate me at times.
Nothing else to say.
Overall this is about as far as I got with the game. partially as the show was winding down and partially because I lost interest.

Napolionics... Hmm I would rather play tiddly winks.

Thanks for looking More in 2 days as I work on some terrain and some Gruntz specialists. very tempted to get side tracked, thinking Renaissance Italians! But do not hold me to that!

All the best and thanks for looking!

Buisy few days

After the heat and the weather sapping all my energy I now find myself full of zim and zigour. In other words the Mojo has returned. I therefore completed a unit for Lion Rampant. Ok not from scratch but a re-paint. There are things still to change! Firstly I may replace the bannerman with an archer. I feel this is most important. As suchthe re-paint of an additional archer is underway. Secondly I may replace the musician. And I may not. In lion rampant all troops need to be within 3" of a unit leader. As such the musician if they act as the unit leader (with no abilities) it may clearly mark a place all troops need to be within 3 inches of. So at present I am in 2 minds. I have spare archers so it is at this stage not a cost issue.

I plan another archer unit in Black and white (Sable and Argent) as the next part of this sub project! They should I hope be finished either today or tomorrow. Yes I shall blog them soon. If the gods will it, it shall be done with this group and the additional bowman and the bannerman removed. That gives me time to think about the musician.

Aeronef: All the parts I messed up arrived yesterday afternoon. (which is quite normal delivery via the postman. And no complaints about that what so ever!) As such early this morning about 3;30am I fitted the small turrets. And here it is ready for a second prime!

Therefore I shall start the painting any-time now! I am still unsure of the colours but As it is Victorian Science Fiction I will not follow the painted version on the Brigade web site.

I will now keep this hidden until finished! So no more aeronef for a while.

Retail therapy: I have purchased 2 things wargames related.  A box of Perry Plastics. These in time will bulk out my Lion Rampart force. Perhaps a unit of crossbows!  I have also contacted a few members of the wargames club to see if they have any spare figure I could buy of them for this project. Maybe I will be lucky on the weekend. Time will tell.

The second thing I bought was from Dave Stone.at Wargames Terrain Workshop (LINK ) A stand of Cactus.  I must admit I am itching to start painting this. Now before I do I need to carry on building some terrain which due to the heat had slipped onto the back burner. However thanks to Dave, {THANKS DAVE} it is moving to the front rapidly. In fact I MAY do some tonight! I feel I have a fresh start and that makes a lot of difference! I have noticed that WTW also make Dinosaurs! While I do not need any for any planned project it is definitely something to ponder for the future!

That#s it for today. Spare time planed already to painting models making terrain and If I get the chance a Cak ay get made as well as It seems ages since I made a Cake!

All the best Clint

Braodside Loot!

Just a quick post to show off my Broadside loot. Mostly I was running a flea market stall (garage sale stall for any across the pond), which meant I had very little time for shopping. Also you will be delighted to know I sold more than I bought so that is a bonus!

Top row Left to right

1] 2 packs of "Snapdragon Studios" 28mm sci fi terrain. For those that do not know Snapdragon Studios are no longer producing and when they were did make some lovely terrain. Bought on the Flea Market.

2] 2 packs of Blotz 15mm Solar panels. Although they coud be used for any scale and will be just as useful in 15mm ans 28mm.

3] I Pack of 6mm Sci fi from Brigade. I always thought if I sold enough on the flea Market I would buy these!

Second Row Left to right:

4] 2 as yet Unreleased Aeronef Figures of British Dirigibles. (Brigade Models)

5]  German aeronef aircraft carrier. Seriosly this does look very good. (Brigade Models)

6] More Brigade models, this time a South East Asian Village in Aeronef scale.

7] A gift from Peter (club member) for my "Back of Beyond" games. I suspect I will be busy!

Bottom Row Again left to right.

8] A miss cast Lanchester Armoured car in 20mm for the "Back of Beyond" IT miniatures.

9] 2 15mm Jungle Huts from IT Miniatures. Slightly battered and sold to me dirt cheap (as was the Lanchester)

10] 2 packs of Aeronef Figthers a total  of 12 triplanes from Brigade Models.

So after my spends I went home with about £90 more than I set of with. Result. Met loads of people I liked both new and old friends and passed out some home made fudge. So A good day. Well pleased.

Medics (VBCW and more!)

I finally painted these 3 figures. They are Foundry 28mm from the set "Dumping the body!". However I intend to use them as VBCW figures. In fact they are painted as normal VBCW figures (with no particular uniform with the intention that they can be used by any side.  I am not sure why I purchased them originally maybe I was thinking of a grave robbing game (I know that was a plan years ago).  But now they shall function as VBCW medics. No that is not the best way to move a wounded person, before anyone says, but at least it will get them out of the area of firing so they should not be hit AGAIN!

Additionally I found this dead body. so I thought it only right to paint it at the same time. While I do not at this moment have a use for the figure I am sure that in the goodness of time a reason of its painting  will some to mind. I thought it might be best floating in the water as being a little different to just lying on a grassy knoll not least because I had a bottle of unopened GLOSS varnish I was eager to try.
Now all I need is a water filled area, maybe a Victorian docks, in which to leave the stiff!

SECRET PROJECT no 2)

I also needed to make some flying bases. Mostly for Aeronef. Obviously the helicopter is NOT aeronef related so I shall talk more of that another time. To get the 6mm (1/300th scale )Helicopter "right" I shall need to finish the base. I will also need to cut the rotor disc more accurately. But the ideas work fine I just need to execute them better, so expect that to be done soon! When I say soon It all relates to a pre-order I have made with Brigade Models for pick up on Sunday at the Broadside show. I have some pre-orders already in place but most of my spendz will come down to what money I have once I sell a few things. But we can save that for a show report on Monday and a LOOT haul report on (I hope) Sunday night.

Until then take care have fun and paint and game  as much as you are able.

WIP and Spendz.

Yes it has been a SLOW week wargames wise. However here are the first Work -in-Progress (WIP) photos of the Dieselpunk project. I HASTEN (Capitals and underlined) to add that is only the rough and is subject to change  in a very big way. In fact I have reached this stage before and scrapped it all so I am aware that it may happen that way again.

The "donor" vehicle is a Matchbox "Yesteryear truck and equates to about 28mm. All good so far. I have to add some armour to the sides and a turret and maybe a mine or oils slick dropper to the back. I will have to see as I get closer to completion.  The biggest problem of course is that each panel is a 3d curve so it has to be cut and shaped separately, tried in place and then attached with superglue. It's tricky time consuming and frustrating BUT when it is finished I am sure it will look very Dieselpunk and will become a much cherished vehicle, even if it is horrible in game terms. As for game terms we will just have to wait and see. I have at this stage NO clue how it will do.

Wargmes Terrain Workshop
A great display
I am told Dave is a regular
visitor to the shop
so if he wants to meet face to face one time
just let me know and we will
make it Happen.
LUCID EYE
in sock
You may remember that 2 weeks ago we (as a club) could not attend a local show due to the POOR weather. So I thought I would cheer myself up and have a little spend. I was of course in Rochester Wargames and model Railway shop.  They seem to have a lot more stock in most of it of interest to me

LUCID EYE (LINK) are now stocked. A figure range I have seen on eBay but not in the "Flesh". If youi do not know the range click the link to find out more.

The shop has also started to stock 15mm figures. WW2 Flames of war has been in stock for ages, but now some ancients and I must say BRAVO for that.

I was also interested to see some 15mm Vietnam stuff. I am VERY picky about Vietnam wargames so I did not get any. However it is a pleasure to see it  among the usual GW fodder.

No I did not look for necromunda. I meant to just forgot.

Here is what I did buy!
  • A 1/100th scale JS 2 This will be a quick add to my AK 47 force for battles in Africa. After all we all need some heavy tanks!
  • A pack of Savage Core (lucid eye) figures. More of these when I paint them. I hope to start them this week
  • 2 pots of much needed paint
  • A rules supplement. I had to import this from America, took about 9 working days and is the supplement I really wanted for "Force on Force" but was never able to find in this country. (sold out was the most common answer) again more on this (but so far not able to put down) in an upcoming post.

Well that' it for today I promise to get on with some hobby stuff today after I make the Roast Dinner (No none for you) wash up and then paint the kitchen cupboards. So that is my day planned out.

All the best Clint. Have a good day folks.

2 28mm Panserschrek teams for WW2 Germans got Chain of command.

6 Lewis Guns. These will be for conversions for my diesel punk project. Which I HOPE to START this week.

and the Spanish Civil war supplement, which I was not expecting and now I am thinking of starting SCW in another scale!

4 Pots of Paint. I always need more paint since I found that the world stops spinning if I do not buy paint regularly! (No it does truly it does and if I wash my hair in it I will never go bald..... one of these comments may not be true, but why risk it?)

1 other secret thing I hope to get painted as a gift, But if I tell you it will not be a secret so I may just have to stick with the paint shampoo!

That's it for today. I will try to get a show game report done tomorrow

All the best folks.

Clint

Dwarf Lord Balin

Yes as promised a Lord of the rings figure. This is the Dwarf Lord "Ballin". It is a Games workshop figure and part of the Lord of the rings range. I believe you are to get 2 figures in the pack but as this was via eBay I only bought 1 figure and a happy chap I am as well.

I an not a huge dwarf fan (pun not intended but I am more than happy to go with it!) However I have really enjoyed painting this character. I have not seen the film(s) of the Hobbit so if the colours are wrong kindly forgive me. But at least there is no Orange hair as GW tend to want on their dwarf slayers for some reason. (No I don't understand it either!).

In fact I have enjoyed painting this figure so much I have bid on some more on eBay. Let me know if you want me to paint them regularly, (maybe once a fort night), of not. And I will try to make it happen, or not happen if you only want it intermittently.

Sorry the Flash has bleached out some of the colour, but such are the joys of photoing small models and having a flash!

But the 3 picks SHOULD give you an idea at the very least.

Mint Copy,
Bargain Price
smiling like a Cheshire Cat!

CHANGE OF SUBJECT
Yeah I have been feeling a bit down with my birthday approaching and no one ever knows what to get me. However, I scanned eBay (always amusing) and found a bargain. A terrific bargain I hope and definitely one I am excited about. I cannot/ will not/ shall not give very many more details other than to show the box and let you know it is now hidden away for my Birthday. Therefore in a few weeks there will be another post on here about this gift. Yes I had to buy it and have been given the money already.... but at least this way I get what I want.

Until next time take car, have fun and paint like crazy!

All the best Clint

Zombtober (4), Selwg loot and Oh My God what have you dug up now!

Firstly here is my Zombtober zombie no 4. Like all the rest it is part of the mantic Walking Dead all out war game set. Like the others it is hard plastic and very well sculpted and cast.  Personally I really like it.

I have painted her in the cheap uniform suits that lower management have at supermarkets. She has to wear the uniform, which means she has to wear this colour and style of suits and sometimes life just bites so she just has to bite back.

I will do a show report tomorrow (fingers crossed). Untill then here is my swag. With a list of what I got and from which trader and what I intend to do with it.

Theer were other things I had anticipated getting but they were just not available. So alas I just did not get them. I may even put a list of what I shall paint this week if I am feeling brave.

The Selwg loot left to right top to bottom.

  • 3 packs of 28mm figures from Ironclad miniatures. These are the "Brand new German stormtrupers.  Pack 7 is German officers and petty officers.(2 Figurse). Pack 9 is 4 German stormtrupers with rifles. and pack 6 is 4 German Stormtruppers with Pistols and sabres. (Sabres just sounds more Germanic than swords) I may have the pack numbers wrong but you can get them here LINK
  • Then 2 pots of paint from Colonel Bill (LINK) White because I am close to running out and Chestnut brown because I always need brown paint for bases if nothing else. It must be the colour I use most.
  • 2 packs of MDF bases and one pack of counters. The bases are mostly for the triumph and tradegy rules (More of them soon I promises my precious... oh stop it!) But the large bases perhaps for some diesel punk cars while the small ones are for 20mm figures. Having checked prices they were cheapest on the day here.(products for wargamers) Yes that was another link.
  • 2 Packs of Ainsty Castings (You guessed it another LINK) These are for 28mm Diesel punk games and for that I make no apologise.  1 pack is some tyres and 1 pack is some modern/sci fi Barrels. Not greatly exciting but they should add something to the table.
  • 1 Pack of peter Pig Bases, 30x30mm sq. ( Yet another LINK ) Again not a huge outlay and one I do use a LOT so worth it I deemed.
  • 1 set of rules. "The Triumph and the tragedy!" A set of Skirmish rules for the interwar period. I  am particularly excited by these as it will let me use my 20mm Afghan boards in a different time period. They are quite slim so I do expect them to be read in an evening by most people or a week by me. These were purchased from Empress Miniatures (Can't think what this may be why not click it and find out?) The absolute joy of Back of Beyong is that there are several armies that can be used depending on your own political religios or whimsical desires. You can use anything from Red Russian Cossacks to Chinese Warlord armies. from British forces in India to Turks or French Foreign Legion or White Russians or even Japanese! You can almost use any force in central Asia in a back of beyond setting. Yes Ray you could use Yeti's if you really wanted to... (No Okay that is a bit of a stretch but) I think I counted 16 armies that could all be used and still be historically correct. (stop wondering if anyone makes 20mm Yetis! Stop it!)
|So that was my spends.

So finally here is a RADDISH that I dug up yesterday. Shall we just say it is something ONLY the grower could love. If it was a child you would think it was a "Cabby Patch Kid" toy dolly. But for me it is quite lovely. Look I know what you are thinking stop giggling and pointing! I won't say it again.

For seeds I used a "French Breakfast Radish" That's just the name of the seed I do not know if they taste better at breakfast or not or If the French like them. All I know is it is the first Radish I have grown and while it may not win any beauty contests I for 1 like the look of it.... Will you stop giggling? If you don't stop I will send you out of the room. So quiet now!

That is my hand holding it before you get smutty!
Just to show the scale.
