Cavalier 2019

Firstly I am not doing a show report. There were a couple of good games but generally nothing stood out as exceptional. I am sure if you were playing those games OR if there was a particular setting or period you were interested in you would strongly disagree.

There did not seem to be either as many traders or as many wargamers as usual.  Again I could be wrong but that is just a personal opinion. NOTHING more.
So here is the swag, where I brought it and for what it will be used for.

• PBI rules By Peter Pig. Purchased as a pre-show order (No money spent on the day so far) I shall of course be using this set of rules for WW2 battles in the Western Desert. More of this in a few days no doubt!
• 1 pack of oval mdf bases. Brought from "Product for wargames". These are a mad idea I have for a conversion and it will probably come to nothing. So no more needs be said at this stage.
• 2 free figures from Peter Pig. 15mm and very welcome they are too.
• Kiki Blinder and 2 pots of  paint. I could have purchased more paint but the colours and manufacturers I wanted were not present so that was passed. Col Bill (AKA Stuart took my money and these were ordered before the show.
• Back to the top right hand side!
• 2 Packs of "Evil Henchmen" by Ironclad miniatures. Purchase as an impulse buy but my mind is racing and shall be painted and used quite quickly.... I hope.
• 2 Desert Hills from "the Scene" reasonably well priced and quicker ad easier than making my own.
• More peter Pig stuff! A destroyed Italian Tank 15mm western desert. And a pack of bases, 30mmx30mm "Plasticard" But if I am to do the western desert I feel this is the way to go!
• Some TUFTS again suitable for the ww2 desert war. I am not sure who I purchased them from but I always need more and I always use them.
• 1 15mm Italian tank kit. I will need to get at least 1 more, possibly more, to round out my Italian army in the western desert. I did not catch the trader but a toughly pleasant chap and I hope to encounter them again and I hope they have a few more of these about!

Overall a very good day and a good chance to catch up with  some traders and some wargamers.

MountainMan and shinies.

Well I am still painting. But I seem to have stalled for a few days and not gotten much finished at all.

One figure I have finished was a Foundry 28mm "Mountain Man". Before anyone asks I am not totally sure what I will use him for. He will go in my Wild West collection but he is totally suitable for "Muskets and Tomahawks" or even "In Her Majesty's Name." So while I do not know what I will use him for I do know that he will get a use.

The figure is wargames foundry and I do have a few more to paint as well. So they may get done reasonably soon. They would get done faster IF I actually did know what I wanted them for.  Oh well such is life.

The way I look a it though is if nothing else it is another one done.


The Reason for my recent lack of painting is that I was waiting for an order to arrive. And guess what it has now arrived. It is one (maybe only I will have to see how I feel) "Not going to Salute Orders. " As I have mentioned before It costs me about £40 BEFORE I go through the door of Salute and that to me is a lot of money.  As such I will go every 4-5 years or so, but going more frequently is not my thing. To me it is a show that is a victim of it's own success.

Anyway enough waffle here is a pic of the order.

 The first Pic is the actual order. many will know it is from Peter Pig and as such is 15mm figures. Trust me if it were a rule set it would be a bigger box. Everything is range 8. For those not familiar with Peter Pig Ranges that means it is all 15mm WW2.

As such it is the things I need to take my Infantry company from Flames of War (Battlefront) to a workable force in PBI. I will not go into the individual pack as I hope to get them all painted pretty soon. By that I do mean this year.


One Pack is worth a special mention though. You can see by the last picture it is a Japanese destroyed Tankette! It will be used as an objective Marker. And is quite small. You will see exactly how small when it gets painted and I put it next to a Panther or Sherman or something similar.

Show swag! (Cavalier 2017)

I have been indoors for about 30 mins so here is a post of what I managed to  leave the show with. I will try to do a show report  tomorrow but for now here is the loot with explanations!

From top left to bottom right.

2 pack of Aeronef . One is a starter "fleet" of Dutch nef-ships. The larger blister is the starter feet while the small blister is the only other ship Brigade models which is of Dutch origin. I was going to get a Turkish starter fleet but I settled on the Dutch in the end. So the biplane I showed yesterday was in Turkish colours and markings simply because I did not find any Turkish lighter than air craft. But this project will now be Dutch and NOT Turkish! Yes I did score a very tiny show day discount! Whoo hoo!


Next along is a company of FOW Japanese troops. I  was not expecting to buy these as I was not expecting anyone to carry them at the show. Luckily for me Tole Haven did and even gave me a 10% discount.  No more discounts today I promise...  These will become (over time) a PBI army, I already have the US forces and you may recall I have some jungle terrain.

Second row. 3 Packs of Counters, I always struggle to come up with counters in many wargames so these should (crosses fingers) make life a little easier. Purchased from "Products for Wargamers" (Impulse buy)

Bottom row. 3 packs of tufts. As they were doing a show special on tufts at £% for 3 pack I was tempted to get 6 packs but 3 will see me though for a while. Only a small drawback but the only come in one colour but luckily it is a colour I use a lot. (Impulse buy and a big thank you to Ray for pointing them out!

2 Packs of Ironclad Miniatures Royal Navy landing party. The plan is to use "Rogue stars" in a Victorian science fiction setting. Talking to the guy was great and he is currently re-doing the Prussian Storm troopers. Which talking to him will fit in perfectly with the British. They will also fit in with my cultists and (yet to be painted "Sky pirates"). I suspect you may be able to discern a theme with many (but not all of my purchases).

Lastly from the bring and buy some Flames of war dice in a tin. This was an absolute bargain and who ever sold them had not checked on eBay for a current price. I was happy to pay £2, and would have almost ripped the guys arm of at that price. Currently on the internet the same tin sells for £20+ I am at present NOT inclined to sell though.

The only other thing I wanted ww2 pacific ships) will have to wait and that project is now on the Back back back back burner.... JUST barely simmering.

Overall this is the best loot haul I was able to score in many a long year.

Shinnies (Reasons to be Cheerful)

Just a VERY quick blog post. I have received some more shinnies this lunch time. They are for a project I am working quietly on which I hope it will come to fruition during the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge.

A very meagre order I realise, but one that has made me very happy.  Firstly the main reason for sending for the figures is that I wanted some stuff for the painting Challenge. Yes I do have enough already so I am not looking to take your unpainted on as well. Well I will if the price is right!!!

So what is in the pack and why did I get it? On the left are the 3 Musketeers while on the right are some animals!! One of the bonus rounds is a film/TV/Song/book tie in. And to be honest the Musketeers MAY get used for that IF my other plan falls through. That is not my main plan however. As a club we have played the "EnGarde!" rules a couple of times and I want these for that. No not to represent the actual musketeers, although again they might if my main plan falls apart!

But they will also make some rather splendid "Border Reivers!" And that is the plan. Border Reivers. I have even purchased a book on the subject and am VERY slowly reading it but reading and me are not always best friends. I am dyslexic, for a start but that is only part of the issue.

Anyway the figures are by Warbases ( LINK ) and cost £8.00 for all 4. (plus postage of course).
They are nicely sculpted and cast with very little cleaning up required. At the BOTTOM of the post is a pic of the cast from the TV series and although he faces are a little rounder than I would have hoped. I really do mean a little and nothing a decent paint job will not correct. And I can kinda "guess" the colours now!

The Animals (someone will always ask) are for the Border reivers and are sheep, goats and chickens. All the kinds of livestock one might hope a Border reiver might be able to carry off. Yes I do Have Highland Cattle as well but those were not in the parcel but purchased from Col Bill at a show.  And the Cattle will I hope be painted during the AHPC  as well.
