28mm Colonial British Cavalry

Well the title says almost it all. They are  Foundry 28mm metal figures of the colonial British cavalry. I nearly put them on 2 days ago but thought it better to get them all finished and varnished first. 11 in all for this stage, although there might be more tomorrow. He says he has something but as yet no idea what it will  be.

Yes I know you can count them. I assure you they are all there, there are no mirrors or trick photography.

I know some of you will be happy for me t get back to sensible historical stuff. While others will be happy for me to do all the rest and strange stuff. While I am just happy to paint. and realise you can't please everyone ALL the time.

Real life get in the way!

Yes that nasty real life has gotten in the way for a while! Still that said it all happened AFTER I finished the Burpa Cavalry so you can see them as I start the massive tidy up as a shelf system collapsed and I have games and about 3 yards of books to find new homes for.

As you can see they are all foundry 28mm with a variety of weapons and posses! In the top 3 pictures the central character is some kind of leader or noble or some such. Just going by his armour an equipment.  He actually has quite a lot of gold paint on him and it took 4 coats in all to get him that colour. And that is  just one reason why I hate painting gold!

The other two characters are sword and spear armed and far more modest in their armour! However they were the last 3 to do so the whole batch is now finished! On Sunday Matt will no doubt (I hope so) give me some more to paint of something but as yet I know not what!

I shall I hope be in a far more positive mood, and with less to clear up on Thursday, With luck a parcel may have arrived. More of that if it does arrive.

The last two photos are of the whole batch together. 10 in all and they should make a complete unit or maybe they will all get split into several units I know not!

I was hoping to start the Jungle adventures today, as 2 players have already got back to me but the shelf collapse has delayed that.  But they shall start soon. Feel free to treat that as a warning!

Yes 2 Burpa cavalry with guns!

Not a HUGE amount that has not already been said this week about Burpas! these two are Wargames Foundry and 28mm is size. The fit with the others that have been done this week already and help to bolster matts growing HORDE!

Yes I shall do a group pic of all the figures I have in this batch as soon as I can. only 1 more to do and they will all be done. 2 more are already finished but they are drying! And I am sure you do not want me to rush them.

The only thing that marks these as being different is that the both have muskets.  Oh and I have used gold paint as well. (I hate acrylic gold it never comes out right).





That's it for today, a few things going on behind the scenes! One eBay purchase has arrived about 4 more to come! And when they all do I shall be able to get on with the boards!

Yes still on Burpa cavalry, and here are 3 more! I know and yet more to come. 5 more started and one shall be  finished by the time you read this.

I don't usually paint white (Greys)  horses, mostly sticking to various brown so this was a nice change for me. However I do not think I will paint any more for at least 3 months!

For the troops I have tried to stick to realistic colours for the clothing, mostly creams and beige. But with brighter turbans and waist sashes. This gives them more interest and to be honest stops me getting bored! Likewise with the shields. I did have problems with gold Acrylic paint, I always seem to. Therefore on these three figures there is a lack of Gold But I shall try to make it up on the next few, although now I have said that I regret saying it!

The final picture of the three shows all the group so far together. There will be more to coma and I hop to get them done soon, Weather permitting, but we have a 30 degree plus weekend forecast. Therefore I shall try to get most painting done long before the sun pours into this room!


PBB update

I now have the 4 players I wanted all signed up. I did invite 5 as a maximum but 1 declined as the game did not appeal to them. For those 4 I INTEND to send out the rules on Sunday. What is more I do intend to run it one blog post at a time. Which will mean that the game shall be slow but I will only be dealing with one person each post! This should mean much less work and hassle for me! (Fingers crossed!)

Even more Burpas

Yes only 4 more Burpa cavalry. But at the end a group shot of this BATCH, which is all the Burpas I have painted since xmas.

As with the rest they are all either Foundry or Empress Miniatures and all 28mm and with luck they should all work together.

The one on the far right is some kind of leader and the background makes him appear darker than he really is. The 2 in the middle shall carry flags or banner. However Matt knows I do not enjoy doing these so he will kindly do them for me. The one on the left is not special in any way  in that he is rank and file and not leader or standard bearer.
 Lastly a group pic of all the ones done SINCE Christmas.

Yet another 5 more Burpas

Well the title says it all. I believe they are a mixture of makes including Foundry and Empress miniatures. (But just don't ask me who is who!)

3 Have been left without flags on the poles as I have asked Matt to do them from now on. I was getting in a frightful mess with them.

Clearly there are 2 Officers/tribal leaders and 3 flag wavers. As they would all be men of note at least as far as the tribe is concerened I have tended to go for some bright colours, Including a dark blue as I so rarely paint the Burpas in dark blue. He should stand out nicely.

needless to say they are 28mm tall and should fit in with the rest of Matts troops. We have been lucky enough to have a game in early December, but being a numbskull I forgot my camera. Despite this I will do a game report soon as 2 other club members have sent me some Pics.

That is it for today. 5 Cavalry to do for Matt and they are now undercoated so should get started tonight. Only base horse colours but It is a start!

5 Burpas more

Yes there  are always more Burpas. Mat says he has about 2 more boxes. As I do not know how many is in a box that does not help.....Oh well.

Anyway here is another 5. I suspect they are all "Foundry" but if you know better I am happy to be enlightened. All I do know is the next 5 are ready for undercoat. And I will be starting them tonight.

Flags will be added (BY MATT) to 2 of these figures so you will not see them finished until we have the next game using them.

Not sure what will come next it all depends on how warm my painting room will be. Might be more 28mm Burpas of GW LotR. I will have both undercoated by tonight so it all depends what I can crack on with.

20 more Burpas!

Yes as promised here are some more Burpas. There are 20 in all from a variety of manufacturers. Although most are either Ironclad or Foundry. If you cannot see any of them it is because they are behind others. But trust me there are 20 of them.

There is a little bit of overlap in the last 2 pics but I just could not get them all in one photo. As you can see I have tried in the top pic but so many are hidden I really needed the bottom 2 pics.


 They go back to Matt tomorrow and with luck any changes he wants will be very minor.... but you never can tell.

A totally bias Club AAR

At the club on Sunday 6 of us played a 28mm Zulu game. I was the Zulus with Richard in the centre and Jim on the far left. (I was on the right). Against us ws Tim and Colin, playing the British. We were using "The men who would be Kings" rules and all the terrain was supplied by Matt as were the British while Jim Supplied the Zulus.

Having learnt in the past that "tribal forces " need
to make the best use of any cover.
It was a little disturbing that Jim had nearly all the scrub
 over his side of the table. I had a few hills
 and Poor Richard had a large open area to cross.

I skjityed the hills as best I could.
JIM malingered at the back (If he ever gets a blog)
Then and only then can he have his say.

Richard had to cross open ground.
The results were well shall we say predictable.
Tim sent his cavalry (Lancers) and attacked one of my married units
the British Lancers won, but not decisively
But it was a win. Costly for both of us.

using every inch of cover, and being criticised by my own team for doing so
I advanced without taking many further casualties.
yes I took a few, but not very many from shooting.

Suddenly in a position to attack. Richards forces did
 manage to attack the defended barricade.
But he was beaten back with terrible casualties.

It was then I was able to launch my attack.
Instead of attacking Tim who had squared off against me. I
swerved and attacked Colin's troops in the rear.
I think all the other players were surprised.

Tim was of course happy that he was not attacked.
But sad at the same time as the
british line lost quite badly
Resulting in a huge hole in their centre.

I cannot claim it all my own way though.
Tim used carbine fire from horseback and almost wiped out my married unit.
 

My unmarried unit also lost it,s leader in the fight and was thus unwilling to motivate.
But the hole in the British line did allow the other Zulu players to
advance and exploit the situation.

Over all it was a Zulu victory and one dear I say I was fairly instrumental
in creating.

All players did loose a lot of troops.
(Strangely except Jim)
On both sides.
OK I was a little harsh on Jim in this write up. he was not really that bad.
But I did say I was going to write up a bias report against him. So consider that done.





 

8 More Cavalry

Yes Matt has 8 more cavalry. Yes the pic shows 9, one was one I had painted previously and Matt wanted these all to fit in with duller colours and more muted hues. I think I have achieved that.

There is a flag to add, but Matt will be adding the flags from now on as he KNOWS it is a task I detest. I am sure I could do it with practice but to be honest I do not enjoy that part of painting in the least so he can do it from now on.

Additionally Matt has yet to see these figures, I normally give him a sneak peek prior to posting on the blog. But as Matt is out of the office and on holiday (I hope somewhere nice.. let us be honest if it was not nice why did he choose to go there!!?)

I have placed the older figure among the group and I for one cannot tell it apart so don't ask me. The figures are all 28mm EITHER Perry or Foundry miniatures. (I think Perry as the horses seem more refined but I could easily be wrong)>

 Another post on Saturday. The figures are already painted and ready to photograph but no time today. (As well as being in a different scale and part of the world so they would not fit in with this post)>

The Missing Pics

Last week I reported missing some pics of the stuff  I had been painting. Well I found them. By which I mean the camera found them. They did not appear one day but were there a few days later. And here they are.

They are all for Matt and part of his ever growing Sudan Collection. They are all also Egyptian, Matt knows I like painting them. And I think they are all old glory figures in 28mm.

Most are spare artillery crew figures along with 1 Nordenfelt Machine gun (Link to Wiki ). Clearly 4 of the figures, those in blue are officers, not just because they are pointing!

These to me are now "Old news" as they have already been returned to Matt and mighty pleased he was too.

Elsewhere on the painting table at least for now I have some Mahdist Cavalry (as well as 3 Madist foot) so expect them next week or maybe if you are unlucky for the next few weeks.


 Of my own projects I have my last Deepone. He (or maybe it is a she... I cannot tell) was delayed because I could not find a suitable base. Now however a base has been found and I can crack on as fast as I like.

A Zombie... From the walking dead game nearly finished now and should be OK to show next week.

A platoon of 15mm WW2 Japanese finished at last. Purchased in February and now just about ready for a game or two. I will admit Vampifan reignited this project by giving me enough funds to buy the Type I Ho-Ro Tank destroyers. I will admit they put me into a buying frenzy for the project and I am now just about ready.. or I will be when I start painting up some armour, Well Tankettes at least.

I shall do a post about this project probably on Sunday. With everything painted so far. But I still have some stragglers on the painting table as well. But I hope to finish them over the weekend. Fingers crossed.

Well that tells you what is coming up. I must say I am looking forward to the Japanese as I have in the past played VERY little Pacific and far east Games.

Of the two I am hoping for more Pacific Japanese Vs American games, but I know Graham (at the club) wants more Far East games.

Finally there are 5 Napoleonic French on the table as well. Almost forgot those.

Bengal lancers again

I handed back a load of figures to Matt yesterday and the photos just have not come out. So whining aside here are some more Bengal Lancers.

6 in all and he tells me this is them all painted now. (until he either buys some more or finds some hidden away.). The models are either Perry or Foundry, he did tell me but the memory is not what it was.


The horses legs were very bendy as were the lances but other than that they were no problem to assemble. The problem is on the other side so you cannot see it. But trust me it is there.

Not my favourite things to paint nor actually my least favourite either but not something I would choose to paint for myself. (Those will be later this week, and yes one is another zombie). These will help Matt bolster his North West Frontier collection and  we are already talking about a game. So you should get to see them on the table before the end of the year.


 That's it for today. I am still kicking myself about not photographing all the Egyptians (Colonial) I painted, but nothing I can do now so in my head trying to move on and get past this.
