8 More Cavalry

Yes Matt has 8 more cavalry. Yes the pic shows 9, one was one I had painted previously and Matt wanted these all to fit in with duller colours and more muted hues. I think I have achieved that.

There is a flag to add, but Matt will be adding the flags from now on as he KNOWS it is a task I detest. I am sure I could do it with practice but to be honest I do not enjoy that part of painting in the least so he can do it from now on.

Additionally Matt has yet to see these figures, I normally give him a sneak peek prior to posting on the blog. But as Matt is out of the office and on holiday (I hope somewhere nice.. let us be honest if it was not nice why did he choose to go there!!?)

I have placed the older figure among the group and I for one cannot tell it apart so don't ask me. The figures are all 28mm EITHER Perry or Foundry miniatures. (I think Perry as the horses seem more refined but I could easily be wrong)>

 Another post on Saturday. The figures are already painted and ready to photograph but no time today. (As well as being in a different scale and part of the world so they would not fit in with this post)>

Chinese Gordon

A figure painted yesterday afternoon. May I present Gordon Pasha (AKA Chinese Gordon, Gordon of Khartoum) or his less well known name Major General Charles George Gordon. ( LINK TO WIKI ).

Clearly a hero of the Victorian age, but most well known for his failed defence of Khartoum against the Mahdi.


I am sure we all remember the film but there is also a statue locally of him riding a camel. No You cannot see it as it inside an army barracks but trust me it is there.

Additionally you may recall seeing this famous painting which is probably the most famous painting by George W. Joy. And serves very well as a tribute to the Victorian Hero.

The figure is 28mm by Perry Miniatures (As Matt so kindly reminded me). And all the colours have been taken from the painting to the right. Clearly the artist was not present at the battle so perhaps the ending was not quite like this. Then again if you read Major General Gordon heroic exploits in the Crimean war perhaps it was.

Either way he is a hero without doubt and served well in the Sudan where he ended slavery.

Matt was due to collect him today but due to illness has had to postpone until later in the week or maybe this time next week.

Either way the figure was a joy to paint and I am sure he will be appreciated when Matt does collect him.

3 Egyptian Officers.

Yes more 28mm Perry miniatures, this time Egyptian Officers on horse back. Clearly of the 1883-1890 period while One does have a drawn sword they are mostly issuing orders and observing troops as opposed to getting stuck in. As with General Hicks (shown 2 posts back) the horses are quite the nicest I have ever seen in this scale for wargaming. The Perry's have clearly been looking at horses to get them this well proportioned.  I have set the first officer leaning slightly to make it appear he is talking to someone on foot or possible a carriage. The other two are sat more squarely on their steeds and look more upright.

I currently have two pieces of artillery and 8 crew that are being painted, And when they are done I will photograph them with William Hicks AND these officers. And that will either be Thursday or Saturday depending on how I get on and also on the painting table is a Wolf Runner for SotTR, which is one of my failed projects that I am returning to.

But back to these. As mentioned they are 28mm in size and part of Matts collection that I have painted for him. So if you see anything wrong in the colours let me know and I can correct it for him before I hand them back on Sunday.

yet more Burpas!

yes one is on a horse. last night I finished 7 more Burpas, all 28mm from a mix of makes including Emperess, Foundry and Perry Miniatures. It gived them a nice mix and helps them look more like a rabble. Which I think is the look that Matt is going for. And to promote that look they are also from different ranges, some are North African and others Indian Hill tribesmen.

I have 7 more to paint in this batch so expect another 7 figures painted soon. Well soonish, I have the para Olympics which needs some serious watching as I do admire the atheletes who overcome adversity to achieve!

  AS you can see these do look quite diverse and yet still look realistic and to my uneducated eye just about right for a colonial period game.

Below are some close ups and it surprises me how well they seem to fit with the terrain. Considering the backdrop is actually America printed out on the computer.

Batch 3

Yep here are the last 5 figures of Batch 3 and a group shot of all of Batch 3 together.

They are a mix of Makes, just Perry Miniatures and Empress I believe, But I may well be wrong about that. So do not take my word at all.

I have mostly stuck with dull cloth in the clothes but with bright accents like turbans or belt sashes.  I say mostly as sometimes I did stray and paint a tunic Pink green red or Blue, to break them up and make them look less uniform. I think it has worked quite well. But the majority of colours are cream and browns

Shields I have painted bright universily and tried to make te colours as varied and bright as possible. Having said that I will do a Lilac shield if there is a next batch as I know I have not painted that colour yet.

But there they are another 20 finished varnished and put ib a case ready for Matt to collect them.

Thanks for looking today and I will need to start on my own figures later this day as I have no idea what I will blog in 2 days time. You never know it might be terrain!

5 More Burpas!

Clearly I am painting 5 figures at a time. And here are  the next 5. Again they are for Matt and he mostly does 28mm and these are indeed that size.

A mixture  of make from left to right (I think) 2 Empress Miniatures a Perry miniature and 2 wargames Foundry figures.  All more troops to devastate the Hills of the Indian sub continent and to stop the Colonial British . But they could also be used in pulp games in North Africa or maybe as pirates in and around Turkey. They realy could be quite versatile in their application.

I have 5 more to do in this batch and will show a batch picture wen I publish them.  I do hope to show a club game on Monday and I will be trying the "En Earde!" rules by Osprey for the first time.

A few more Burpas.

Well the painting Mojo has not yet returned and while I did expect to have these done and on the blog before breakfast this morning you can see I a just a little late.

Firstly let me confess I am not 100% sure of the makes, it was all explained to me but I have since forgotten. BUT from left to right I believe them to be, Perry Miniatures, Empress Miniatures and three Foundry figures.  If I have that wrong please forgive me. They are all 28mm and Painted for my mate Matt. And I will return them to him on Sunday next!

There are 5 more started and they should be finished pretty soon IF I get any enthusiasm back. As you can see this lot are in the more muted palette of colours so should fit in very well with the rest.

So until then you will just have to put up with these figures and hope I can get some more done for Tuesday, when I would HOPE to post again.
