The Re-Paint continues.

Yes the repaint continues. Today I Have finished these 3 sdkfz 234/1 . The 20mm armed heavy scout car used by the Germans in WW2.

Only 3 models (ok one finished day before yesterday. ) But none the less a step forward. They are 15mm "Forged in Battle" figures and were a pleasure to paint.. and dare I say re-paint. I only have the infantry to paint new before I can start. Oh and make some terrain. But Terrain wise I can use a club members before I start. Which is good but I still need to make my own as well.

Meanwhile back at the ranch!

These have arrived Via eBay. they are  the start of my second 15mm sci fi force. I could have gone for another Human force but decided that "Snake-men" were better suited. Each figure while they claim to be 15mm are a tad on the large size. As we have no idea what size aliens would be this is of course no issue. As such I shall start painting this evening and maybe (if the paint gods smile) get something done ready for blogging tomorrow.

2 steps forward and some steps back

Well the title says it really. Had a re-think. Yes I know that's dangerous!

Firstly PBI western desert is no longer on the cards. Given I am now reading the rules it is not TOO late. My opponent has late war Germans and late war British and I have late war Americans and mid-late war Japanese it makes more sense to carry on in Europe. (Yes I a aware Japan does not fight in Europe!) So with the infantry in this box which I had already bought but done NOTHING with I should have nearly enough to get a force together.

That being the case I am re-painting some old vehicles.  So this has had another paint job. I shall start the other one today. I will be short of all the options but I am already closer than I was for western desert. Also more is available with regard to purchases.  In fact I shall be able to re-start a stalled project. Well here's hoping. I should say I am confident I will get the first platoon done by Monday.



Elsewhere. I am still working on my 15mm DRK AGE collection. This is a Peter pig "Gift from God!" and counts as LOOT in the Longships  game. It is the only piece of loot I have so far and as 15mm figures go was a joy to paint. All the colours are authentic so as a prize will work out just fine. When I say Prize I mean in game terms you still have to get it.

Additionally I have started to order my next force for "Gruntz". This time an Alien Race and that should arrive over the weekend. So you have been warned it shall be 15mm figure heavy on this blog for a while...... You are warned!

Cavalier 2019

Firstly I am not doing a show report. There were a couple of good games but generally nothing stood out as exceptional. I am sure if you were playing those games OR if there was a particular setting or period you were interested in you would strongly disagree.

There did not seem to be either as many traders or as many wargamers as usual.  Again I could be wrong but that is just a personal opinion. NOTHING more.
So here is the swag, where I brought it and for what it will be used for.

• PBI rules By Peter Pig. Purchased as a pre-show order (No money spent on the day so far) I shall of course be using this set of rules for WW2 battles in the Western Desert. More of this in a few days no doubt!
• 1 pack of oval mdf bases. Brought from "Product for wargames". These are a mad idea I have for a conversion and it will probably come to nothing. So no more needs be said at this stage.
• 2 free figures from Peter Pig. 15mm and very welcome they are too.
• Kiki Blinder and 2 pots of  paint. I could have purchased more paint but the colours and manufacturers I wanted were not present so that was passed. Col Bill (AKA Stuart took my money and these were ordered before the show.
• Back to the top right hand side!
• 2 Packs of "Evil Henchmen" by Ironclad miniatures. Purchase as an impulse buy but my mind is racing and shall be painted and used quite quickly.... I hope.
• 2 Desert Hills from "the Scene" reasonably well priced and quicker ad easier than making my own.
• More peter Pig stuff! A destroyed Italian Tank 15mm western desert. And a pack of bases, 30mmx30mm "Plasticard" But if I am to do the western desert I feel this is the way to go!
• Some TUFTS again suitable for the ww2 desert war. I am not sure who I purchased them from but I always need more and I always use them.
• 1 15mm Italian tank kit. I will need to get at least 1 more, possibly more, to round out my Italian army in the western desert. I did not catch the trader but a toughly pleasant chap and I hope to encounter them again and I hope they have a few more of these about!

Overall a very good day and a good chance to catch up with  some traders and some wargamers.

I dislike Work in Progress blog posts. So I tend to not do them. None the less here is what's happening... At least as far as I am going to show.

Yes I have been working on my "Dieselpunk" game idea. The rules are started and this is my first vehicle. STARTED.

I have loads to do. So far as far as I can see no one make any rules. If you know better please feel free to let me know. there are several makes of figure which can be used but NOTHING as far as I can see directly aimed at this era. THat is not a problem any figure that would fit Spanish Civil war or VBCW or 1920's Gangster is appropriate.

On the right is the START (And only the start) of a vehicle for this period. I started wit a matchbox model of "yesteryear". I have several more to do and yes before you ask vehicle rules shall be in the rules I am writing.


 I have mentioned an idea to Dave Stone (WTW  . LINK ) so the first step in that direction has already been taken. I HASTEN to add it is only a 1st step. Nothing more.

I plan/hope to have a show game done by September, fingers crossed. I know very many of you will have no interest in this project.

Until I have something else to share I shall just shut my big mouth!

Civilians

All together now.

Yep had a disappointing weekend. Oh well ! Could be worse and small things are sent to try us. As such I did not play any games at the wargame club. 2 were on offer, but not of my liking. My choice, so maybe I should be LESS fussy!

On the other hand here are asset of the figures I have managed to finish. They are by several different makes/manufactures so quality does vary.

 There is a height difference (which I like as people are of different sizes! There is also a difference in the quality of the scupts, which I am less keen on. They are a mixture of Foundry, Footsore, Ironclad and even a col Bills "Special" I am told but they just make up a set of Interwar civilians. They are  for MATT s I expect to see them in a VBCW context.

As I have a show this coming weekend I have been sorting out what I wantand am beginning to make some orders to be picked up at the show. Wore of this NEXT week.

DAK started!

DAK of course means Duteches Africa Korps. (may be spelt wrong.. just live with it, I  am.)
But of course you new that. All the figures are 15mm ww2. A mixture of "Flames of War" for the Horch Personnel carrier and "Forged in Battle" for the armoured cars. The VERY start of a "New Project!"

The personnel carrier first. While it did see use throughout the war this one is circa 1941-43 and in use in the western desert. It was used to transport people as well as light guns and thus saw a lot of use in every place the Germans were involved. On a personal level I DO need to but a lot more of these, but one for NOW is OK.







Also for the scouting section of the Afrika Korp I have finished 2 armoured cars. Again 15mm and as mentioned above "Forged In Battle". For those with a technical incline they are SDKFZ 234/1 armed with a 20mm arutcannon. In the western desert this should be enough fire power as all the vehicles are thinly armoured. This part of ww2 is not about having the most armour and the biggest gun. So as such it hardly maters.

I shall leave the arms races to  the kids! (Been there done that)>

Flying Girl

This is one of Col Bills "Belt Fed" miniatures. Totally unsuitable for Victorian Science Fiction, but totally suitable for Dieselpunk.  I realise that I may be the only person into "Diesel-punk!" but to be honest I don't care. As a Col Bills figure available a MOST UK shows for the princely price of £3. (At time of Typing).

I realise that many of you are thinking "All well and good but what are you thinkin!" Well it is a long term plan and not one to be discussed here. I Know I am a tease but I hope al shall become clear in the dim distant future.

That's al my finished painting up to date and I know it's not a huge amount but sometimes Real life stops me picking up a paint brush.

Back in the saddle!

Yes I am finally back I the saddle and blogging again. When I say "Back in the saddle"  I actually mean clinging to the beasts neck for all my worth! Do I understand what happened NO. Do I want to talk about it NO!
That should make my position clear. So don't expect any correspondence on the subject . It shall not be happening.

OK so what is new. Firstly I have slowed down on the painting A LOT! I have not stopped nor do I intend to. Nor do I intend to show you what I have painted in the mean time.

You may recall this figure from ages ago! So this is still a ALIVE project despite my lack of movement o the subject!



Background reading

However we want new news not old news so here is a list of what is coming up:

• 15mm Dark ages: an old project that is no longer stalled. Unit 3 of 5 is part painted.
• 15mm WWII western desert. While this is a new project expect to see some old friends. I plan to use the Peter Pig "PBI" rules. I am sure there will be a lot more of this to come. This will be a slow burner.
• 20mm Vietnam. I have finally found a set of rules I like and that I think could work well for this conflict. More soon I promise. Another slow burner.



Sneak peek

• Also in the works are  a set of Victorian science Fiction rules. I hope to self publish these at a later date and while I shall be looking for playtesters NOT YET SO DON 'T ASK. But here is a sneak peek! So far a few sleepless nights! LOTS AND LOTS still to do and I might fall flat so promise you will not laugh and we are good.
• Finally. I am going to resurrect my "French Indian Wars" project as the rules I dis originally buy just did not work for me in 15mm. These may not either but at least they give me the feel I want and the scale I want as well as getting me re-started on the project. The rules only arrived yesterday, but I have already read enough to know I like them.

The Long Dark?

My Computer has been hacked and I will probably loose the internet tomorrow at some time.

Still not got act together

Sorry NO aar today. I still have not found the time. (I hope in the next few days).

Until then I have finished another knight for Lion Rampant. As such it is one of my OLD Bretonian Knights from Games Workshop. Clearly part of the Black, white, Purple troop. So it will fit into my second unit. I did not know (Until I checked on the internet) that both Orange and Purple were legal heraldic colours.  Still live and learn. As soon as I found that out the colour choice was clear to me. And an Old Games workshop figure is given a new lease of life.  I am sure most of you will already have noted that and used Purple and Orange in your heraldry. Yeah I am a bit behind the times.

While this does not finish the second unit of knights it is now a step closer.

Talking of a step closer. here are the Wild west (western) 15mm figures I still have to re-base and touch the paint up. In some cases a total re-paint. The sand yellow bases are my 20-30 year old ones, (and they do need a re-paint)
While the ones on the green bases are a gift from Peter. (And guess what they also need a re-paint). Here is what there is in total. Left to right)

• 7 Mounted figures with Long arms.
• 8 Mounted figures with pistols.
• 12 Civilians un armed) for use as Liability bases.
• 16 +8 Rifle armed towns men
• 8pistol armed townsmen.
• 1 BUFFALO (back row)
• 1 Pack mule.
• 2 mounted Scouts. (I can use them as leaders)
• 1 Wagon with supplies,
• 1 broken and unarmed figure.

This is VERY nearly enough for a "Townsmen" group ready to play "Western Rules By Peter Pig. I shall of course need a few extra packs but only 2-3 packs. For example Townsmen are not allowed more than one unit mounted!
So that's it  for now more again soon.  And I have an AAR to do when I get the chance!

Yes more 15mm western stuff. Firstly a big than you to Peter who gave me a LOAD of 15mm  Western stuff on Sunday. It is  Very much appreciated.

Secondly Here is my 2nd Cavalry unit. Again these are Table top Games figures now available from (LINK ) Alternative Armies. As there are only 11 figures this unit shall be expanded in the near future. Just have to get an order together soon.

While at present they do have a command officer they do not have a bugler or a flag and that is something I am Keen to rectify. They are the maximum size for a veteran unit so 2 additional stands wil be enough to make them the maximum size for an average unit.


Again I have gone for 10th Cavalry or if you prefer "Buffalo Soldiers!" this keeps them in continuity with other figures already painted.

 But it does not stop there. I have also painted up 6 stands of Texas Long Horn Cattle. I strongly believe these are Minifigs from back in the day, many centuries ago.

This should (fingers crossed) represent partial cover squares, or at least the indicators for those squares. . I have been mad aware that they are still in production. needless to say these will work better for "Cattlmen" than US army, but for now at least that is another thing crossed off the list

Painted for Peter

OK Admit it you were not expecting that were you. Peter down the wargames club gave me a Polish Winged lancer to paint. Guess what.  Tar-da! Here it is.

It is a Wargames Foundry (I think) 28mm Renaissance Polish winged lancer. I may have the colours wrong so DO NOT use this as a painting guide. Rather than following a prescribed and authentic route slavishly I selected colours I liked and applied them. I just hope Peter likes them as much as I do! If he does not, that's fine I have the paint remover on hand and am quite happy to give it a dip. But realistically the chances are he will be over the moon.

On the shield I have free-handed an eagles head, ( or he can say it's a griffins head if he chooses). This was actually quite a lot of work and needed re-painting 4 times in total. But it ended quite nicely so I am sure it will be OK with Peter.


 So that is my very brief foray into the Renaissance period.  While I would love to do more very few at the club are at all interested so I can't see many appearing on this blog. And that is a shame I feel. But until a set of rules come out that as a club we can all enjoy the wait for Italian wars is just a pipe dream.

Tomorrow at the club Matt has agreed (offered really) to use his Burpas so with luck on Monday a Burpa AAR.  We shall be using "The men who would be Kings!" for the game and as yet I have no more ideas than that!
