Bicycle Boys!

A couple of old Foundry figures from their Home guard range. I hasten to add that I am still working through my old lead pile and at present have no use for these chaps. I am sure I will find a use for them but what that will be and when is anyone's guess. Painted more for fun and pleasure than anything else following the WW1 figures I was finishing off last week. For now I'll put them in the same box and maybe use them as WW1 dispatch riders.

Not really a whole lot more to say about these two figures.  Something a little different but only a little. I used the same colours as the WW1 figures as British army uniforms did not seem to change colour too much between the wars. That is of course the time for someone to jump in and contradict me. And if the colours are very much different I have an eye test in September so let's not worry about it.

I may have originally got these when VBCW was planned in 28mm but now the club is doing 20mm these might never get used. Oh well never mind, sooner or later they'll either get used or put on a bring and buy.

Changing the topic, I am due to play a Sudan game at the club on Sunday so with any luck an After Action Report on Monday. So until then, take care and hope to see you soon. Best Wishes Clint.

  1. They're nice, but as usual with such figures they're a bit of a two-edged swords. Great to paint and look at, but not as useful as an ordinary riflemen.

Sudan game sounds great, so make sure to take some pictures :P

    1. I agree 2 edge sword is correct. Sometime though things like this just make the game so much more fun.

Now you have said about taking the camera, I am bound to forget it! That would be so like me!

    1. Thanks Fran. I have now started the 6mm WSS Baccus Figures. They seem so small tinnie weenie!

    2. After the eyestrain of painting 6mm your eye doctor will say "Clint, what in the devil have you been doing?!"

    3. They will not be super-detailed. So I should be all right.

  3. These are so full of charm, they were worth the time to paint them. Things like this make for good eye candy on a table so there's no waste really.

Best of luck on the game tomorrow!

    1. Thank you Anne. The best part of these figures is that I wanted to paint them. When I finish my figure fast there are a couple of figures I want to paint for other people, Fran and Ray included.

  4. Really nice figures. That Foundry range was rather good. I suppose they could be the opening stage of the 1944 Tour de France, which was held in Britain, 5th June 1944.

    1. There is a game idea there as well!

I love the understatement of events. "1944 Tour de France!" hee hee! A bit like calling the Mongol Horde "Mr Khan's pony club!"

    2. You mean it wasn't his pony club!

    1. A little different from the norm. They had been hanging around for so long they were asking to get done. Thank you Michael.

  6. Soldiers on bicycles always makes me feel nostalgic. My Great Grandad was a Signaller in the Kings Liverpool Regiment and I have a picture of him in France 1917 with his trusty boneshaker. Nice painting as always Clint.

    1. My Grandfather signed up for the WW1 when he was just 14 years old. His story could make a good blog post one day. I would very much like to hear about your Great Grandfather some time.

      Thank you Carl.

  7. I liked this foundry range a lot, and those two look splendid and though their use is fairly limited they're just nice additions to have.
