Another 3 Pinkertons.

I promise this is my last 3 Pinkertons. Again by Artizan Designs these are another three in their Wild West range. All very nicely cast and sculpted with a few light mould lines and very little flash. Despite my photography you can see that I have settled on a very limited palette of colours in order to unify the figures. They are totally in keeping with the other figures I have done and should now give me enough figures in dusters or long coats to satisfy my usual players at least in the short term. Given the long coats it was a very quick painting exercise as the coats did tend to conceal a lot of detail beneath. Which meant that once the coat was painted very little extra work needed to be done. Just the kind of figure I like. Overall reasonably happy with the results, they could have been better but by crickey they could have come out so much worse. So I'll settle for that.

One of my players wants more Mexican Bandit types and I am happy to say I do have some to paint up, but not quite yet. Not that I pander to their whims I have myself noted my lack of those types of characters in my cowboy figures box which has lead me to purchase them but as yet not open the blister pack. With luck I can get them done by Christmas as I have a few other things I want to do first.

Talking of which one of the guys at the wargames club has gifted me some 10mm Samurai figures. (very nice of him). I am now looking for a good set of rules for this period if anyone knows of any. I would be looking for a simple set to play big battles with (ok starting with small battles and working up!)  I have looked at the Peter Pig set but they seem to leave me cold and seem very much in the same vein as "Bloody Barons" his War of the Roses rule set. And thus I feel it would be the same meat but with different gravy! Hail Ceaser/Black Powder is about the feel I want but more focused on the Period and less generic. So If you have any suggestions I would be delighted to hear them. If not I may have to write my own, you have been warned!

That's it for today. Talk soon all the Best Clint.

  1. Nice looking Pinkertons Clint and I have used Killer Katanas for my 15mm Samurai games in the past. Bit hard to find now though I think.

    3. Thank you Carl that is a very kind offer. Give me a couple of months, you never know I think they will turn up.

  2. They are very characterful figures, Clint, and should prove popular with your players who want heroes in dusters.

    1. Thanks Bryan. Or for any Victorian adventures. From King Solomans mines to dinosaur hunting. And many other ideas in between.

  3. Great figures Clint, especially the guy holding his pistol - very 19th C face.
They'll work for a great many Victorianesque periods too !

    1. Yes indeed very nice sculpts and as you say any Victorianesque setting would be right for them.

    1. Thank you Sir Francis. I am definitely looking for big battle rules. I will keep the Mons simple. I am more concerned about attaching the sashimo banners, but where there's a will there's a lawyer looking to get rich!

  5. Nice job Clint they look great buddy. Perhaps you could try Ronin by Osprey for the samurai. Its quite popular like IHMN from what I can tell.

    1. Thank you Simon. I have Ronin already, it's very skirmish based and not at all for big battles. But I like the way you think.

  6. I've enjoyed the Pinkertons and truly the palette is perfect for them. They didn't wear loud flashy colours as they had a particular deadly job to do. I would like to see a Mexican Bandito one day though. (no pressure, no pressure).

    1. Hi Anne no Bandits in the immediate future. Maybe in a 2-3 weeks at the earliest. I am glad you have enjoyed this last few batches of Western figures. I have a couple of Vikings about ready just finishing them off. So baring accidents they should be finished in time for Friday. And then I want to do some small scale stuff again.

    2. I've tried to paint Dusters and you say they are easy, but I can't get them right. Cloaks, coats and such are really hard for me.

I like Vikings as well. My favourites are the JomsVikings from Gripping Beast.

    3. Not that type of Viking! Think Modern Afghanistan!

  7. Great work again Clint! I've always liked dusters, apart from being fast to paint, they add this little something to the miniatures that they always lack (unless they got one! :P). I see the reason behind the limited palette, they look like group on tabletop and when this is unwanted, you can easily mix some other miniatures in the group to break the "uniform" effect.

    2. Most of the club seem to like dusters on wild west figures. The limited palette has as much to do with squeezing too much paint out of the tube as anything else. (That's the honest truth!) But at least they look cohesive.

    1. Hi James We all have games we are drawn towards and others that we steer away from. Personally I steer away from ECW but towards Wild west.

  11. Nice crew of Pinkertons, Clint! I plan on a few myself, but I want an armored wagon for them first...and a gatling gun! My western town is going to be more James West and Artemis Gordon Wild West type with a splash of The Man with No Name...and a dose of F Troop just for fun!

    1. Now that sounds like one heck of a busy town.. Thank you David that sounds like a great town to play in. I think mine is more "Cat Ballou" with a splash of "Support your local Gunfighter" and a sprinkling of "Carry on Cowboy"!
