More 10mm Samurai.

Yes more 10mm Samurai. To be honest I am about half way through now! Although I will no doubt be tempted to buy some more. So expect this to continue for a few more weeks. I will intersperse it with a few other things to stop you and myself from getting bored by seeing the same thing over and over again. And I would expect some bright spark to think it was all the same figures each few weeks. Darn why did I type that I could have gotten away with it most likely! No doubt Jo (Zabadak) would have cottoned on pretty quickly he does seem to have a suspicious mind!

That said I will need to start thinking about getting a bigger box for them as the one I am using is now full. That can only be a good thing.

So Today we have a unit of mounted Samurai armed with bows. I have split the troop types by weapons as well as social class (Samurai, Ashigaru and peasant). This is clear and deliberate as opposed to lumping them all together in one amorphous mass. As you can see with the mounted it is 3 figures to a base and as with the infantry, 4 bases to a unit. I still have not found the set of rules I would most like so am very strongly considering making up my own.

Clearly there are more back banners than I have managed to put on units previously this is to reflect the mounted nature of the troops. I should put more back banners on all the troops, but due to their fiddly nature and my lack of patience I have been remiss in doing so.

Finally these figures go on sale by Crooked Dice tomorrow. (1st November). So fair warning I am about to get sidetracked and start some St. Trinnian's, erhm I mean St Searle's Girls shenanigans very soon afterwards. Yes they are 28mm figures and my down time at work has already created the scenario and adapted the rules. So all I have to do is buy them, paint them and build the scenery and bob's your uncle! So knowing me probably finished about 2 years later assuming I rush!

Thanks for tuning in today. With luck it was not too boring. More again in 2 days time. So until then, take care have fun and if you do anything I wouldn't please don't mention it !

Cheers Clint

  1. Nice cavalry :-) . Keep going, you're not finished yet!

Hmm, I wonder if the girls from St. Searle's would go well with the armed schoolboys from the Woodbine Design Company? They're really for different generations, but...

  2. I love the new St. Searle's girls. They are right at the top of my shopping list and I'll be placing an order for them. I once ran a scenario with a few St. Trinian's girls taking on a horde of zombies. The zombies were no match for the girls. Great fun and i'd love to do it again using the ATZ-FFO rules.

    1. Stop reading my mind! I will place an order as well, probably as soon as I can. I have also asked Tim at Frontline to bring a couple of bits and bobs of terrain down to the club on Sunday. Expect a build of terrain! I have a plan..... if it works it will be fun!

  3. They look great, the back banners are very nicely done. Maybe it is historical that all may not have them during a campaign - some being lost or broken. Best, Dean

    1. Thanks Dean I feel sure that not everyone had back banners. So I am not so worried about the lack of them.

  4. Samurais are looking good, love the horses for a change. You shouldn't skip on the back banners, though, they look really nice :P.

As for the school girls, they're really great for one offs scenarios and such!

    1. The back banners are separate castings and at that scale can be tricky, but they do add to the feel of the figures. I can buy them in separate packs to the figures so I can always retro fit them if need be.

As for the new castings from Crooked Dice I feel sure they will be well received.

      Cheers Mathyoo.

  5. Me suspicious ? - Never ! (Cynical maybe.)
Your samurai forces are really coming on apace and the mons on these figures really are the defining aspect for Samurai, especially in this scale.

The schoolgirls are superb too which will, no doubt, unfortunately lead to a flurry of activity from all and sundry to show off their own versions.
Michael Awdry's 6th Form girls will be hard to better in this respect and I hope he adds to his bunch too (http://28mmvictorianwarfare.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-sixth-form.html).
It'll be very interesting to see what everyone does with their versions of this interest (suspect) in schoolgirl figures !

    1. You are perhaps right Cynical is so much more accurate than suspicious! Agreed about the girls and Michael Awdry though. I for one will be doing a different uniform as I do not think I will match his skill with a brush.

      Thank you Jo

    1. To be honest I did muck the bases up. They are the wrong colour brown when next to the others. Just a little repainting to do. I don't think anyone else spotted it though so as long as you can keep quiet I will get it fixed pretty quickly.

      Thank you Phil.

  7. Mon-o-mia! You are Right good sir Mon are a pain to get right in any scale! But at 10mm you know you will always attempt the simpler ones! When I get the St Searle's game sorted I would take great pleasure in putting it on for you and a few of the more Light hearted rejects.

  8. Great Samurai and I love the basing myself. Now about these girls, oh my goodness! I will have to have these.

    1. You will be over-run with school girls. As for the bases I just used the wrong brown, I do like the result, but I will have to alter either 4 bases (the ones above) or all the rest which is a lot more work. So being lazy it is the 4 above I will change.

      Thank you Michael.
