Challenged!

Tamsin AKA Wargames Girl ( LINK) has challenged me as part of the Analogue Painting Challenge to paint space ships as we both have Ground Zero Games ships to paint. I bought a NSL (New Swabian League) from a friend a couple of years ago and they were something I was looking to get finished. This is therefore due to be painted as it now has the required level of dust on it. So I think I have about 20 ships in all from very small frigates all the way up to Capital ships.

One of the things that concerns me is the colour to paint them. So many people paint NSL ships Grey that I am not inclined too, and while I realise they can be any colour getting it right seems to be a challenge for me. So I am open to ideas, but I think I have settled on a colour in my mind.

The actual rules of the challenge will be sorted out on the weekend when we meet face to face for Fran's last English game. I will keep you posted when they are settled.

Anyway changing the subject here are 5 more 20mm zombies. They were on the painting table and had been for a while so it is good to add a few more to the horde. They are all the same pose, in soft plastic. Nothing special about them at all but at least they are finished now.

Trying to clear the painting table ready for the challenge in general and Tamsin's Challenge in particular. Paint monkey needs to get going!!

Thanks for looking all the best from Clint

  1. I'm looking forward to our side-challenge.

For the NSL, as an alternative to grey, I've seen a few fleets painted red with white (and sometimes yellow) detailing which does look quite effective.

    1. Thanks Tamsin. I have also seen those, but I don't think they are for me. But I am likely to change my mind at a moments notice.

  2. Good luck to you both in your side challenge; this should be interesting as both can turn around units quickly when pushed.

    1. We have yet to set the parameters of the side challenge, whether it is speed, points, votes or some other criteria. It is all open to discussion at the moment. Don't tell Tamsin but I am also looking forward to it!

    4. Thank you Joe. I do find painting spaceships and robots tricksy but perhaps my first choice in not that bad, puce and Lime green.... with Burn orange as an accent colour. Who says it should be tasteful!

    5. Puce and lime green with burnt* orange accents? Are these NSL ships captured by the Kra'Vak?

*I did have to copy paste the "burn" into notepad just to be sure it was "burn" - the font made it look like something else ;)

    6. Opps you are right BURNT orange. LMAO

Hey who says the NSL are tasteful. OK I might not use Lime green and Puce. But I might..... if my first few options are not working as I want them too.
      Thanks Tamsin.

    7. I don't like the Puce against the Lime green, but I do like the Burnt Orange with the Line Green.

  3. Oooh, zombies! I always like to see painted zombies. Good luck on your new challenge. Perhaps Paint Monkey has a few ideas of his own that he hasn't told you about. Paint Monkeys are sneaky like that!

    1. Thank you Bryan. While many paint monkeys can be tricksy mine is far from it.

    1. Thank you Sir Blax. Not sure how we will work the challenge yet. It might be a single reveal or it might be in stages. I will need to go and drill hole in boards as these ships do tend to be top heavy and fall over A LOT>

  5. This is going to be a fun one for me to watch as I can look forward to loads of spaceships now. Also the banter between you two will make things fun for the rest of us.

    1. Thank you Anne. No Lime green and Burnt orange planned really. And Paint monkey is currently working on dismounted WW1 German ulhans should have some to show on Thursday as I try to clear the paint table. I suspect the banter will not be so high between Me and Tamsin. when compared with Kung Fu Panda and the fighting Badger!

  7. I would give a prize to the first to produce a Zombie Spaceship ... or a zombie infested spaceship.

    1. Thank you Michael. I have no idea how to make a zombie infested spaceship look different to any other kind of spaceship. Perhaps I am just unimaginative.

  8. What about a nice Ice blue colour?

    1. Thanks Simon. I have painted one fleet (My FSE) in pale blue and cream though. And another fleet in dark blue so maybe blue would not be a first choice.
