Ahhhh! M' Heartyies!

At Salute this year I bought 8 Dwarf Pirates from Black Scorpion. 4 have been put somewhere safe and I Cannot find them. I know they have not been thrown out though.... well I think I know!

But here are the other 4. They have already been on the Analogue Painting challenge so if you follow that you will have seen the crew before. These have been the first Resin figures I have painted (I have done vehicles before) and I did find the details just a little soft. Nothing so bad as to stop me buying more just a little soft.

After years and years and years of not liking Dwarfs in games I am finally coming round to them and enjoying them.

I kept the bases as simple as possible. Just sandy beach for a finish. This would give them a versatile finish and let them be anywhere in the world. Well anywhere with sand so any beach or desert.

They were painted to help out my "Enchanter" in Frostgrave, but Frostgrave seems to have fizzled out at the club. It may start again, but it gets less likely with each passing week, which is a shame as it was a good game and in the campaign I was not last. (I know that makes a change!)

But anyway I hope you can enjoy the figures and If I do find the other four they will be painted for the Challenge and will turn up here in due course.

Have a good few days and another post on Wednesday.

Cheers From Clint

  1. What a cracking little quartet Clint. I think your work on their beards, especially the grey ones, are absolutely spot on. Sorry to hear about "Frostgrave" as I enjoyed your BatReps.

    1. Thank you Simon (Blax) WE can only wait and see about Frostgrave. The next club I am doing a Samurai battle and the time after that a Spanish civil war battle so It may not happen any time soon. But It could still happen. But I am cynical.

  2. Looking good, Clint.
I couldn't get any paint to stick to the Black Scorpion resins I had - I did in the end, but the paint was so thick it ruined the detail - so I sold my bits to Stuart. I didn't have any Dwarves, but there was an Orc Admiral and a pirate woman.

    1. Thank you Roy. I have seen those figures on the Col Bill web site and IF I can get an order together those are both on my wish list.

Female Pirates... I did ask Santa for the naughty girls list!

  3. They look jolly good, mate. My only criticism is your "sandy" bases look very green! Mutant sand, perhaps?

    1. Thanks Bryan. I see what you mean, might have to repaint the bases. Thanks for pointing it out!

    1. Thank you Joe, I did struggle with them. The one with the sword overhead particularly was troublesome. But I did enjoy them.

  7. Great job on them.. to echo some of the comments about the resin not holding paint it is best to wash them with some dish soap, and for the details being soft, it comes down to the type of resin being used. Some are much more crisp ( hope to show something that gives that impression soon ;) ).
Great work on it though, and hope the campaign pops back up at some point!

    1. Thank you Kyle. If the campaign comes back great if it does not well there is not a lot I can do about it.

I agree with everything you say about the Resin as well.

  8. Nice stuff Clint - the world needs more Dwarf Pirates. Brigade Games also make Gnome Pirates if you need more wee ruffians :-)

    1. Thank you Millsy. I am only now after all theses years beginning to like Dwarfs in fantasy games.

  10. What is it about dwarves that makes them want to run off and become pirates? I've got quite a few myself (from an old Warhammer "Regiment of Renown"), but I think these are nicer figures.

    1. Thanks C6 I well remember the long Drong Slayers. In all fairness Black scorpion do undead, elf and orc/goblin Pirates as well. The goblin Pirates are very nice.

    1. Thank you Simon. Warboys and Black fingers! What is not to like.

Dwarfs and pirates, again what is not to like. Having said that Goblin Pirates also float my boat!
