Autumn Skirmish Show report.

I was having one of those days I had forgotten 5 things, or more rather I had remembered 5 things I had forgotten pertinent to the show on the car ride up to Sidcup. I may well have forgotten a few more but 5 I can recall. Luckily I did remember my name, some money, a packed lunch and mostly what I wanted to buy if the right traders were there. The bad news is most of the traders I wanted were not there. One of the traders was their BUT he had sold out of what I wanted and was not getting any more! So for Shopping I will need to wait until SELWG at Crystal Palace.

But here is what I did buy. (Let's get that out of the way first). 1 pot of paint from Tolehaven. and One OH6 "Loach" Model from a mate (Thanks Ian) and yes I did get a discount. The helicopter was an impulse buy but I can always use stuff for my Vietnam Project in 20mm scale. And that gives me 4 helicopters I have yet to build. I hope to do them in the AHPC later this year, but I will need to buy some crew first. So Total spend was only £6.20

Right on with the games. (A couple of games are missed out just because I did not like them,... call it editing)
Tonbridge Wargames Club/Society

28mm Bolt Action

Part of operation Market Garden

Herne Bay/Whitstable Club

I think 20mm  Napoleonic not sure what rules.

Medway Wargames Club.
28mm American war of Independence
Or As I like to think.
Traitorous Colony Scumbags
Betray the King
(Honest I am not Bias!)

Using the "To the Strongest" rules.
Just because they work better than some rules
specifically for the period.

Gravesend Gamers Guild
Space Marines Vs Chaos
40K

Nuff said.

Hornchurch Club Playing Guildball.
Looks nice and a fun game, but I for one do not need any distractions.

Old Guard Wargames Club
(I Know at least 2 Old Guard wargames Clubs
so this may not be the ones you think!)

Not sure of the scale the rules
or what the two sides were
BUT
I do know they were enjoying it!
I will do a report on the Game we put on later this week. By We I do mean the Rainham wargames club. But if you want a sneak peek pop over to Ray's Blog and the kind mister Rousell willgive you some clues. Here is a link (http://onelover-ray.blogspot.co.uk/) he claims his blog was never called "One Lover!" I think Google thinks different!

  1. Some nice looking games there. The game being played by Hornchurch Club is actually Zombicide: Black Plague. The photo below it looks more like Guildball

    1. Thank you Bryan. The Zombiecide game was just a display filling an empty table and was never actually played on the day. You are correct to point it out though as I did make it very misleading.

I will remove the photo. Cheers Mate

  2. Thanks for the link back Clint, my Blog has always been called Don't Throw a 1. When I started it, Blogger gave me a choice of address, one of them was one lover ray, which I thought was a great play on my blogs name, (not in the prowess of canoodling in bed, I may add!) The stoopid address has come back and bit me on the butt a few times though. While I was my holiday in Greece I couldn't access my blog, the hotels systems thought it was a porn site and blocked it!!!

    1. Thanks Ray. Personally I think the evidence speaks for itself.
But it does sound funny about the hotel thinking it is a porn sight... thank has given me a grin.

    1. Thank you Simon. As for the Rebellion of the colony, well they did betray the king. Like I said I am not bias at all, not one little bit. No I am completely impartial, and hold no grudge against the rotter's!

  4. Some nice photos Clint. I'm just painting up some "Guild Ball" minis, just as a brief distraction you understand as you need a good handful for a team, but that pitch mat makes the game really pop imho. very nice. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you Simon. The Pitch did look good. And it is the kind of thing that could be played at a club with little extra input.

  5. To the Strongest! AWI sounds interesting. I've decided they're the only Ancients rules I'm learning, mainly because I hate having to use tape measures and worrying about angles of who can see what.

The Old Guard Wargames Club (Catterick) is a name I dislike, if I'm honest. The chap organising it needed a name, so came up with that quick. Its still a temporary name, I believe, so could be altered if the club manages to remain active beyond the short term. I'd like to get 'Catterick and Richmondshire' into the title somehow, at least then casual observers would know where we were from.

    1. Thank you Roy, Names are tricky things I would not have called myself Clint for choice, but it was my parents choice, not mine. I suspect there may be more than 2 Old Guard wargames clubs but I know of at least 2.

To the Strongest is a good set of rules IF you have two armies which did fight each other, but do (I think) suffer when you have 2 armies from different times and locations.

Just to let you Know Stu was talking up your good self on Sunday. Nothing to get paranoid about just saying you were a decent and worthwhile chap. As I hope he would say about me. (As long as I keep buying figures from him!)

  6. A modest haul, but some great games on show. If it is any consolation, I seem to be forgetting far more than I am remembering at the moment!

    1. Thank you Michael. It was little things I was forgetting. Nothing Major, well Ok 1 thing major! Well not that major I'll tell you in the AAR.

  7. Great pictures and write up...pity I missed the show! I was at Chatham for their 1940's day instead (photo report on my blog leter!!) with the family. A rare clash of social lives meant we couldn't do Chatham on Saturday as originally planned and so we did Sunday instead meaning Skirmish had to be sacrificed. :(

I'll be at SELWG though, come hell or high water!

    1. Thank you Lee. Numbers did seem to be down at the show and I missed saying "Hi" But Ray went with Postie so that was OK. He filled your role quite well. Yes there did seem to be a few things on that weekend. And one cannot do everything.

  8. Nice little loot haul never the less. I like the look of some of those games. There is a new local club starting up soon. Which I hope to try and join up at. So looking at Bolt action at the moment.

    1. Thank you Simon. I have never played bolt action but I would first advise that you see what other club members have and like as you may be doubling up on which can be good or bad depending on who they are.

If you know very little about WW2 I can suggest rules that give the right flavour for the period. Which (ONLY through observation) I do not think Bolt Action do. But as I say I have not played it so I could be wrong. But all the games look like 40 games with all the troops moving in clumps and not like real life.

  9. A very restrained haul, not your fault this time. Interesting mix of games, some really do make great eye candy.

  10. I really need to get out more - the last gaming event I attended was a GW Games Day in 2000 2ith my kids!

    Thanks for sharing, Clint!

    1. Thank you Evan. I tend to go to about 5-6 shows a year. but 3-4 are small local shows. I have only been to one GW Games day since they stopped other games and other traders from attending and found it very dull and Uninspiring. Each to their own of course, and some people do love GW events. But I would find a show close to where you live and pop in one time, you may hate it and then again you may no. Until you try it you will not know for sure.
