I appologise.

Several things all happened at once which meant I have been unable to blog as frequently as I would like.

Well the AHPC is still continuing but I have sufficient back log so start showing stuff on the blog more frequently!

Secondly My sister is back from Texas, having told me it would be 2 weeks and her leaving on BOXING DAY! SO the Dogs and the horses no longer my responsibility!

Thirdly the bug seems to have passed. I am still a little weak and coughing and spluttering and with a headache but seriously so much better then yesterday when I had to go back to bed! I cannot remember the last time I needed to go back to bed.

BUT the good news is I was given 2 gifts.

Long tem member of the blog may recall me starting and stopping a WW1 East Africa Project. Well another club member wants to do some of this and these are the rules he wants to use and this was a spare copy of the rules he gave me. I shall enjoy reading them but whether I will use them or not I just do not know.

The other is a small book on the Battle of the Alamo. Now my sister has no interest in war, battles, wargamin, very little interest in history (I am sure she would say otherwise but in 50 years I have not known her to buy 1 history book for herself!) however she did do to San Antonio and see the site of the battle and the museum. Probably I suspect because my nephew and brother in law wanted to go. Still anyway a book on a battle I have not read and that will be difficult to acquire in the UK so I am not complaining!

I will tryto do another post tomorrow. Until then here are me and the 2 dogs at about 3 am having just been woken up to let them out for a wee! Kindly forgive my dishevelled appearance! And the fact that the dogs are not allowed on the sofa at their own home!

  1. Take care, mate. It's good to hear you're on the mend. The books must have cheered you up no end. That's a great photo of you and the two dogs. I wish you well.

    1. Thank you Bryan. It seems like a 48 hour thing as I am fine now. (Well fine for a given value of Fine and Me!) The dogs were great really, but I did need to get up at 3am each day to let them out.... mostly they went out and did nothing except bark and upset the neighbours!
Also be aware I am "sitting on" a squeaky toy so the dogs don't fight at an early time in the morning!

    1. Thanks Simon . If I am honest "Trench storm" has not even been taken out of the bag yet. It might be brilliant and it might not. I just cannot say as I have not even looked at it yet.

  6. Glad to hear you are feeling better mate!

A return to WW1 Africa would be superb - a fascinating but amazingly a mostly unsung theatre. Far more fun to model and play than the Western Front IMHO.

    1. Thank you Paul. Being mostly Skirmish based I think it could be a lot of fun. Maybe repaint a few figures (Like my WW1 British Cavalry) and some Asikis and it may perhaps be a cheap project.

IF the figures arrive in the next couple of days I can start them for the next BONUS round which is "East" and East Africa seems to fit that bill. IF they do not then I do have an alternative so I just may need to switch my thinking. No loss no matter what I do.

    2. If they dont, well...Africa is WEST of me in Australia so surely that will count too :-)

I've wanted to do WW1 Africa ever since I visited Tanzania and went to the Askari memorial in Dar-el-salam (former capital of German East Africa). I arrived there (in a warship) on the XXth anniversary of that city being bombarded by our Navy during the war, which I thought prudent to keep a little quiet about :-)

    3. East and West are nebulous terms if looked at globally and make no sense at all if looked at cosmically.

If East Africa gets going as a game I will do an ARR knowing they you will be reading it! And I hop I can do it justice having never been to Africa at all. (Watching Tarzan just does not count I suspect!)

    1. Thanks Simon. The dogs are gone. I am getting the house back together. Changed the beds and found a "Buried" dog chew (Buried under the covers. ) To be honest I thought I would miss them more than I do. My sister has them back and the dogs are now trying to sleep on her bed.... which is not going down well! LOL

  8. Hope you're better (or at least getting there) and I'm sure the gifts will aid recovery to some degree. The WW1 rules look very interesting; it's a set \I've not heard of and as I've been aiding Mattyoo with his own WW1 rules I'll be looking forward to a review of them (as I'm sure he will be too).

    1. Thank you Joe the Rules are quite old so no review is intended. I will have to see if they are suitable for east Africa before I do anything at all with them.

Yes almost fully recovered. (still a slight cough... weaker in magnitude each day so it is going!)
