BoB (ing)

Yes some more Back of Beyond figures. Well that is to say my first actual troops. I woke up this morning feeling as if the Back of beyond needed an armoured car. I am sure I will bet tanks eventually but for now this is my heavy armour.  So having woken up in the mood to do an armoured car for the back of beyond I grabbed my old (and trusty) Rolls Royce armoured car and gave it a new paint job. Which is why you are seeing this vehicle again, but this time with a BoB camo scheme. It has already been painted twice so let's hope this is the last time.

Personally if you are going to have an armoured car what could be better than a Rolls Royce.

Additionally here are the first actual troops. More will be along soon I am sure. In the back of Beyond these can either be Red Russians or White Russians as the uniforms were so similar that it really did just come down to insignia in the Russian Civil War.

Al the figures and the Armoured car are IT Miniatures ( LINK) or Frontline Wargaming (both are the same company in reality as about 2 years ago Tim bought all the IT miniatures molds). As I only need 1 platoon per person (MAX) more than 1 armoured car might seem a little unbalancing, so I shall stop at this for now. IT Miniatures sell these in packs of 24 so for me that is enough to get started. These are listed as White Russians, however in the BoB they can easily be either. And if you choose to paint the uniforms grey instead of green they make passing Chinese warlord troops. Anyway I have (due to pack size) settled on 8 men to a squad and 3 squads to a platoon. Thus 1 pack and a few extras will get me a force. Which means this is the 1st squad all finished and ready to go.

When the force is complete I will detail points etc. and then ask what the second force should be. All in all I am excited by this project so expect some more SOON>

Monday is next post and It will very likely be LotR.

Thanks for looking have a good weekend all the best Clint

  1. Great stuff Clint, and you are quite right when you say if you're going to paint an armoured car then it should be a Rolls Royce. Nice work on the Russians as well, and its great to see you so enlivened by this BoB project. Of course Monday sounds like a good day too - "Lord Of The Rings" eh?

I will start the next squad of Russians tomorrow as well. nothing special just 8 of the same to build up the numbers.

  2. That's a good looking (and very versatile) squad to start off your BoB forces Clint, and a great looking repaint of the Roller!

    1. Thank you Addict. The second squad are now started as well. And I am tempted to even start the third squad. I see Bob as like VBCW in that you can almost have anything as long as the tech level is about right.

As for the Rolls, quickly done but looks OK. Might get an FT 17 (French Light tank) as that would fit as well as it was used by the Russian (some were given to help fight for the tsar) as well as Many other nations.

  4. Ooh, I feel the pull towards a new project and using 20mm again. I'll have to check out the triumph and tragedy rules too.

Top work on the troops and photos Clint

    1. Thank you Roy. If I wee you I would wait and see how I get on. Maybe after an AAR for example. Most people use 28mm for this back ground as well so maybe that might suit someone starting from scratch better. I went for 20mm for a number of reasons. 1 I already have all the terrain in 20mm, 2 Tim at the club makes 20mm figures, 3 It is cheaper, and that does make a difference to me. So seriously wait and see how it goes b4 jumping in to much.

  8. I'm pleased you went with painting some more of you BoB forces and re-using the RR Armoured car I'm all for too.
I reckon at the rateyour'e painting you can have a substantial force together in no time.

    1. Thank you Joe. I hope to have 2 forces finished by February. This will allow a game before the first show of next year.

Additionally I THINK (that may change) I have worked out a force to oppose these as well.

  10. I can see me doing some revolution figs myself, as you know me it will not be a surprise to know I will start with the whites. Good job on the painting my friend. As a side note Sundays game was very bloody. I partnered Graham V Garry and Dick. Graham gained the objective, I got massacred, so nothing new there but a good game and a fun one.

    1. Thanks Tim. I will be leaving Sailors for now. Maybe another order for next club day, just checking a few things first. Quite Interested in the Polish Armoured car.... But nothing is firm in my mind just yet so leave that on hold.
