Another ECW Cavalryman. 28mm)

yep 1 more English civil war cavalry man. I must admit to buying 4 so you may expect to see all 4 together sometime. (indeed all 4 are now started with the foot to follow in due course).

While I was only looking originally for 1 it is a shame to have 4 and not paint them so 4 it will be.

The second pic shows them both together and a handsome pair they seem to make. Now this is only the 2nd ECW figure I have ever painted so any mistakes you notice should be minimal but I am sure there are a few as I am not yet too complacent. Although I am sure that will come in time.

28mm Warlord games a joy to paint and to put together and I must say I am rather pleased with them both. (So please don't rain on my day by pointing mistakes out!). The other 2 are already started but I am not expecting them very soon to be finished (Just stuck together last night).

I do have the feeling that I might buy a sprue of infantry (possibly Scots although painting my Tartan will be hard.) But for now just 1 more ECW horse finished. I really don't are if they are cavaliers or roundheads so feel free to choose and when I use them they will be just what I need.

Have a good weekend. All the best Clint (Cold and Chilly atm)

  1. A fine companion to the first. Lovely paint job Clint. I do like the pose on this one as if he is striking an infantryman or charging.

    1. Thank you Simon, there are only 4 so as big a variety as possible is my aim. Which should, I hope offer me the greatest choice in a game.

  2. Wow! Lovely shot of the pair, Clint and marvellous paint-job. two down, ten more to go? And then that's the first of your cavalry regiments finished ;-)

    1. Thank you Blax. Only2 more to go..... not 10. The next is with a pistol so they will all be a little different. And that is one of the joys of plastic multi-part figures. Variety is easy to instil.

    1. Thank you Bryan. really not a period I know much about at all. But surprisingly I am getting into it now!

  4. Another fine looking trooper, and contrary to popular myth Royalists and Parliamentarians were dressed and equipped just about identically, so you're quite right to use these for either :-)
My major gripe with the Warlord Games horses is the big gap between the body and neck on the right hand side - hardly noticeable when painting dark horses, but unfortunately a job for the filler :-(
Glad to hear you're getting into the period!

    1. Thank you Addict. I will admit I have been anti this period for about 30 years, o idea why. However painting these I am even thinking of getting a 6mm or 10mm army (or 2). NOT found the rules I like just yet but at least not adverse to looking.

I am not at all surprised that all troops used the same equipment, I think this was the case until a unified national army. But hey what do I know?

    2. These rules are well worth looking at - and they're FREE :-)

  5. They're looking good, Clint. And I still think the way you paint your bases is excellent!

    1. Thank you Roy.I have had many compliments about my bases over the years. One from a friend who was looking for an easy option who went very quiet when he discovered how many steps were involved.

  6. Nice to see something new by way of period.

If you paint ECW Scots there should be no need to paint tartan if you want to avoid it.

    1. Thanks Stephen. if/when* I start the Scots painting Tartan is perhaps the interest for me. I think it will set them apart as a force. And while it may not be totally accurate it should make them fun/frustrating* to paint! (*=delete the appropriate as you see fit!)

  7. Instantly recognisable as ECW cavalry, great choice of colours too, though I'm a bit surprised not to see some pistol holsters on the horse.

    1. Thank you Joe. It will be of little surprise to you that the next figure of ECW cavalry is armed with a pistol and there is a pistol holster on the horse. So you are just a little ahead of my thinking.

    1. Thank you Dave. There is another one on the way. So I expect you will want another group shot showing all three.

had some set backs this weekend wargames wise, nothing major just saying no blog post today or tomorrow but there should be one on Wednesday.
