Monkey Business

The Blog title seems to be appropriate. Over the weekend I went to a boot fair and purchased 3 Planet of the Apes DVDs No not the Charlton Heston version, but the newer ones. Ones which I have not at the time of writing seen. The princely sum was £1.50, having not seen them I have no idea if this is money well spent , but if they are as good as the originals (I doubt it) I shall not be disappointed.

In addition I have been painting some Lucid Eye Simians! Just the 4 but I have both a Tarzan (and Jane) figures to go with them If I choose as well as some rather large apes. So If I choose I can have a "Pulp Alley" crew/gang/mob up and running in no time at all. They can of course be used in many other games, 7TV or Judge Dredd or well anything you want to think of.

They are 28mm but are quite small and despite the sixe of human comparison would struggle to fin into many other games, although one could see a giant ape in New York city if one really tried to think about it.

I must say a joy to paint and with no flash or mold lines or other casting defects. I could and would recommend them to anyone who waned some model apes as they are really easy to paint.

I am in 2 minds about what kind of base to give them so I settled on just desert. In addition as they carry weapons I was thinking they should also have a primitive marking maybe a red hand. At present I have decided against as this way they are slightly more versatile.

That's it for today thanks for popping by and I hope you liked  them but that is it for now.

All the best and enjoy the sun and weather if you can but no skin cancer. Next post in 2 days time. Until then, take care have fun and enjoy yourself.

  1. I'm sure you'll enjoy the "Ape films", just grab some popcorn and don't take them seriously.
The Lucid Eye figures on the other hand are seriously good minis - good paintjob on them. I could go for these too in Jimland, but they're quite expensive minis iirc.

    1. Thank you Joe. as for the expense of Lucid Eye figures 4 figures for £7.50 so comparable with many other makes. As for the Ape films I can only hope I will enjoy them, but no to the pop corn maybe just water or squash and no snacks!

    2. I think I was probably thinking of the Lucid Eye "Chiefs" for each of their ranges somewhere around £4 ?

    3. Ahh the Lucid Eye Chiefs are £4.50 each. And I may treat myself but not at the moment. I have my 6month hankering for 6mm again at the moment.

  2. Three DVDs for £1.50 is a real bargain. For what it's worth, I enjoyed them far more than the originals. The figures look very nice and I could certainly see them working in a Mega City One setting as well as many others.

    1. Thank you Bryan. I too can see these figs working in many settings from Sci fi to Ice age. But I think they will be best in Victorian adventures.

I shall wait and see what I think about the films before saying more. I did like the originals a lot and if these are even 1/2 as good I am sure I will like them.

  3. Very nice apes Clint, out of the remakes the one with Mark Wahlberg was probably the weakest but really enjoyed the others as much as I enjoyed the originals

    1. Thanks Dave. I am apprehensive about remakes. They hardly ever make them better, but I am willing to be proved wrong. They might be brilliant. A hard few days for me but should get through them OK.

  5. Marvellous posting, Clint. Having seen Charlton Heston in a play in Chichester once I became a huge fan of the first (& best) "Planet Of The Apes" film. These minis look excellent proxies for the remakes (which are good too imho), and you've painted them very well.

    1. Thanks Simon. They were an easy paint. Once you painted the flesh and the black they were almost done. They would make excellent figures for someone just starting as they would get good results with little issue.

  6. Fantastic job on these CLint. I eyed up the game that is coming soon to Ks but decided I could use these very same models for it If I so wanted to.

    1. Thank you Simon. These could be almost all I need if playing "Pulp alley add a Tarzan and 2 large apes and I would be done! I must say I am tempted.

  7. A princely sum of £1.50. Your bound to have at least double that value of entertainment out of them.

    1. Thank you Carl. Back on the 6mm modern stuff (well 1985) tonight.
As for the DVDs I am sure I will fall asleep in them. It is just what I am like.

  10. Nice a ‘genre’ I looked at awhile ago but never quite jumped in. The newer films I think are probabaly better than the old but I liked both.😀
