My old Orc Village. Suitable for TAR7AN?

I raked out my old 25+ years old Orc Village to see if it would fit with the TAR7AN Board. There is one more, but that made it look far too crowded and this or fewer looked right to me.

I don't have to do very much work on them to re vitalise them. A couple of roves to reattach for example and a few chips to paint over. I will not get overly picky and point out they all have wooden doors which is totally unauthentic although I may change them in the near future. Not sure yet.

They are about the right size scale and shape so I don't think it worth the time expense and effort to buy or make more. Even as I type this I am thinking of changing the doors and a quick repaint. So nothing is off the table. It was just a thought that I desired to explore, by getting these relics out again.

So as they came out of the storage locker I thought it worthwhile to take a couple of shots of them on the board to highlight what I am thinking.

So a little extra blog post today, thanks for reading. I hope all is well with you and a normal post schedule resumes tomorrow.

All the best Clint.

  1. Yeah I think they'd work great for a Tarzan setting!

  2. They look great, I'd ignore the doors personally or have none at all.

    1. If I do get rid of the doors I will replace them with a cloth curtain. I am edging towards that option.

    2. Could you not just keep the door and use small pins to tack the curtains over?

    3. I will never be satisfied if I don't at least try to do it properly.

  3. They do look like they'd work and a cloth curtain door would be just the thing to finish it off.

This is good multi purposing and any way that we can save money on this hobby is great. Gives us more to spend on lead!

    1. Well it would save time and money which is a good thing. As for spending the money on lead...... I am having a lead fast (it won't last) just for a few weeks!

  4. Giving models a new lease of life is not only good on the bank balance its also good for the environment.... ok maybe not the second one but it is good to reuse models rather than let them gather dust.

    1. The Environment is important to preserve for future generations.... I have no kids so what do I care! JK

I think I (90%) will re use them. Get rid of the door and put in a curtain and then will be good to go.

      Thanks you Lee,

  5. I can only agree with the others. I wouldn't bother changing the door...perhaps a cloth (a great idea, btw) on every secondish?

Depending on number of the models you plan using, it could be, that the board is crowded as it is...perhaps take one off and see how this looks? :P

    1. Thank you Mathyoo. As the huts are free standing taking a few of is easy to do.

I would change all the doors, not every other one. I would strive for consistency.

  6. Absolutely nothing wrong with using these huts as native huts, they fit the bill superbly.
I made some similar huts a while ago and used a plain "door" to represent cloth, with a little detail on it. (I'll put a photo up of my huts on my blog today)

    1. I prefer you huts. I may re-make the roofs having seen yours. Thanks Jo.

  8. One thing I always try to remember about anything for Pulp settings is that the costuming and set dressing can be off. This is why I often grab any dude in a turban for characters from the Indian region. Your huts, while not accurate, might certainly be some set dressers interpretation of a suitable African village.

How many times do we see piranha in the rivers in Tarzan movies? Enough that Disney pokes fun at it in their animated Tarzan movie.

    1. Having not seen the Disney version I can only assume you are right. I should let it go and move on. But I know it will be better if I make the changes.

Thank you for the input Eli. Greatly appreciated.

    1. I am sure I will do some work on them to bring them up to date. But it is a good strong start.

    1. Don't rush me the Big game hunter is coming.... an old figure re-painted. Grenadier from my "Call of C'thulhu" days if memory serves so about 30 years ago I think.
