Mo without the jo!

In other words the painting Mojo is coming back. Yes I know it's very dangerous. Very dangerous indeed. So I have started work on a Grubby Tanks LRDG Chevrolet. Code (LRDG 04) if you really want to look it up. And that tells you one of the vehicles I bought at SELWG show.

As you can see it comprises 4 wheels a driver, a gunner with Vickers K machine gun and a gunner with a 0.5 Browning. In addition it comes with 2 extra Vickers K machine guns. There are no instructions but I could work out where most things went.

I did decide that the extra Vickers were superfluous to my particular needs  and that a 0.5 Browning would be sufficient. So I filled any of the small air bubbles and added green-stuff to make the rear passenger more enclosed. The hardest part was fixing the radiator but even that was not insurmountable and once I got better at using the green stuff piece of cake.

Then a quick coat of grey primer. This gives me a good place to start painting.  Some of the base colours are on now. But it's going to take a while as there really is a LOT of stowage that you don't notice until you start painting and then you have to work out exactly what it is that you are painting. (Boxes, Tarpaulins, blankets, wheels, packs helmets etc.) So I am sorting out the bits and bobs and slowly getting it all covered in paint. I's going to take some time so expect to see it finished next week some-time.

That's my update for today as I have a new set of rules I am working through. Thanks for looking and with luck something finished soon.

Take care and get the brushes wet. All the best Clint

  1. Now that looks like a very nice model indeed and appears to have plenty of detail to go around for your paintbrush, Certainly your undercoat does wonders for it and that's a fine bit if greenstuffing you've done at the rear. The gunner now looks well-entrenched :-) Hopefully you're planning some further WIPs as I'd like to see how you paint the stowage?

    1. I was not planning any more WIP shots as I am a messy painter not worried about keeping within the lines at first. Yet some how It all comes together in the end. Thank you Blax.

  2. Ah, the LRDG! There's so much to like about them, from the scarfs to trucks, general idea of what they did, all the neat stowage...
But you should slap yourself on the wrist for saying you don't need all the machine guns! Moaaar! :D

    1. Ok Mathyoo the next vehicle (a Jeep) already has 3 machine guns. I can retro fit one of the Vickers Ks. I did not include it initially as there is no one to man it.

  3. It is a great model, Clint and your use of Green Stuff has enhanced it. However, I must agree with Mathyoo. You should have kept the extra machine guns. These guys were armed to the teeth, which they needed to be given their long periods out in the field and lack of supply facilities out there.

    1. Thanks Brian. As mentioned in Mathyoos answer I can still add then. Spray them in primer and drill a hole and they are easy to retro fit.

    1. Thanks Al. It is being a struggle at the moment. So many little things to do, packs boxes covers men wheels etc. Just so much clutter on it now!

  7. That's a really nice model, it's no wonder that you've been inspired to paint it up and your green stuff efforts are completely lost in the primed model, so you're doing something right.
(I know what you're saying up the painting thing too)

  10. Should be an interesting model to make. Stowage is usually quite easy to paint (right?) and adds a lot of character to the finished model.

    1. Yes Stowage is usually an easy paint (there are exceptions but generally). I have had to dismantle some of the model. Chevrolet being an American company should have left hand drive. Or so I thought but after looking at internet pictures they turn out to be right hand drive. Only a little change but worth getting right. Thanks C6
