Egyptians (Paint Monkey)

I call myself Paint monkey because of the mess I make. not because I look like a chimp! (thanks Ray lol you Feckin' Ejit!). For my first entry in the painting challenge (Currently working on entries 3 and 4) I painted up some circa 1882 Egyptians for Matt's colonial collection/gaming.

A total of 24 figures by Perry Miniatures. 2 Officers 2 standard bearers and 2 musicians and 28 rankers.

As you can see they have a pretty basic uniform. White tunic and trousers Black webbing and a red fez. Apart from the officers who wear navy blue instead of white. This made them ideal for the challenge as It meant I could constrain myself to a very limited palette. Starting from a white undercoat they were first painted cream as opposed to grey as I wanted then to look more attuned to the desert and grey would have given a colder look. I don't find painting white easy but if you start with a light grey or cream base coat for blocking in, it does help a lot.

These got me off the mark and earned me 124 points About 1/10th of my target.

Thanks for looking today. next time will be a Pressie for Fran. which as of last night is also on the Analogue hobbies web site challenge.

All the best Take care and with luck see you all soon.

  1. This is a great bunch of models. Simple schemes are nice also as they still take time to do up ;) Curious how you will do in the contest, but more if you will be able to achieve your goal and beyond ;)

    2. I have faith you can get through it, and so long as there are enough models around the flat, you can get more points ;) Go go go!

    3. Well like many things it begins and ends in the mind. "If you think you can or if you think you are right, you are probably correct"

Cheers mate. There is easily enough lead about the house. Or a shop within 4 miles)

    1. yeah Pull your finger out Michael. We need to see your inspiring work on the challenge.

Having done them I now realise that I could perhaps have done them quicker. I will see what Matt wants me to paint on Sunday. Will not rush them though.

  6. Great work Clint. Keep it up as you're certainly encouraging me to stick with my own batch painting. Clearly as a painting Padawan I still have much to learn from the Monkey Master :-)

    3. If you remember that TV show Anne, then I've a few Pulp entries coming which you should like :-) Certainly I'll need to paint a whole lot more up if I'm going to keep up with Clint's paint-fest schedule.

    1. Well Ray claims it is because I look like a chimp. He may be right it is not for me to say. But it is because I get paint EVERYWHERE!
      Thank you Dean.

  8. That was a nice point haul on the first submission Clint. I like you nickname Paint Monkey and you don't look like a Chimp at all.

    1. Nothing wrong with looking like a chimp. there are far worse things in life than that. The Sci Fi Vehicles should deliver some good points as well. It has taken me all day to base coat them after the primer. I can start adding details tomorrow.

      Thank you ANNE.

  9. PM strikes again ! Another triumph on these Egyptians, you were absolutely right going with a subtle cream finish rather than the more oft-seen grey. I can't say I apporve of the standing-firing figures as I always think they appear rather naff.
