More 28mm Empress miniatures SCW figures (VBCW)

Yes I have finished another batch ready for matt on Sunday. The figures are Empress miniatures Spanish Civil War figures. However they will be used as Very British Civil war figures.  At the end is a group shot of the whole batch.

Again Mat wanted a socialist look so plenty of Red on handkerchiefs ad balaclavas, neck ties and caps.
The figure holding a pole will later be a flag bearer but that is a job for Matt and not me.

Some (a few ) of the figures are women and a few have head swaps or at least hat swaps. Which means there are more British helmets.
Not a problem to me or as it happens Matt.

The final photograph the figures did not all fit in the back drop. So 1 has been photographed (on the right) without the back drop. DoH!

matt is aware that there is a figure missing. It has gone absent without leave and will have to have another blog post linked back to this one.

That's it for today. I shall try to get an ECW figure done for the week -end. But no promises just if I get time. It is now started and should (fingers crossed) be finished soon.

Thanks for looking. More again soon. All the best Clint

Even more Burpas

Yes only 4 more Burpa cavalry. But at the end a group shot of this BATCH, which is all the Burpas I have painted since xmas.

As with the rest they are all either Foundry or Empress Miniatures and all 28mm and with luck they should all work together.

The one on the far right is some kind of leader and the background makes him appear darker than he really is. The 2 in the middle shall carry flags or banner. However Matt knows I do not enjoy doing these so he will kindly do them for me. The one on the left is not special in any way  in that he is rank and file and not leader or standard bearer.
Lastly a group pic of all the ones done SINCE Christmas.

Thanks for looking and more again soon. Just give me a few days. Perhaps Tuesday.

All the best on a 5am Sunday morning.

Edawrd th Dancing Chimp. (28mm)

Ok the title is wrong. His name is not Edward, Nor is he dancing and more so he is not a chimp! But the "Scale is correct!" But as we all know 28mm is not a scale either. maybe I should start again!

The miniature s by West Wind (I know as It had that cast on the tab!) it is also part of the 28mm range.  More than this I cannot tell. Except to say that it is painted for Matt and he got it on eBay along with two others.

The figure is about twice as large as a normal 28mm figure and stands about 40mm. But being hunched if he were ever to stand up straight he would be twice the size. he is definitely more than 2 times the weight.

Overall the figure was a pleasure to paint but I have no idea what Matts purpose is in getting him. Seriously no idea, but I am sure all will be revealed in weeks to come.

That's it for today. Hope you are well and happy. all the best Clint

A couple of days longer than I hoped.

Firstly sorry about the delay. But I am fine and in good/robust health . So is everyone here. Just not felt like blogging recently. I have 2 Game AAR's I could put on the blog but for one reason or another I just don't feel like it. here are some more Victorian Sci Fi. (Sorry Ray I did ask but Matt said NO! so there will be no Pink and Purple VSF tanks for a good LONG while from me. But I did ask.)

Most of what follows are Black Pyramid miniatures. As always happens EXCEPT the first 2. They are "Pinnacle!" miniatures or Pinnacle games. or something similar. They were bought on eBay by Matt so I just do not know. In other words don't ask!

If you Do know, Brilliant. As it stands I do not need to know. The figures were all right to paint nothing special just a lot of metallic and a black ink wash to finish off.  I could go into more detail but seriously I doubt I need to.

The rest are , I believe, Black Pyramid Miniatures. We have Mycroft and a steam powered bicycle The St Georges flag is completely free hand painted on Mycroft's torso. I was not sure what to put there but it seemed very empty without something. If I had not put it there there just would in my opinion have been just too much naked metal to look good. Likewise if I had kept it all one colour metal it would look very uninspiring indeed. So steel and copper were used. (Or as it says on the paint pots.... Gunmetal and silver (highlight coat and Brass and gold (highlight ) . This should make the metals slightly more interesting.

The gent on the steam powered bicycle did create more problems but in the end I do think he came out quite well. If I do say so myself. I did try a white scarf first off but that looked wrong to my eyes so light blue was my next choice. I could easily have selected any colour but this at least compliments the bicycle frame which is dark blue.

The last 2 figures are also Black Pyramid miniatures and are a hunter and his gun dog! The dog has a dead rabbit on his back and is painted with brass and gold as was Mycroft above. I went for a single red "eye" as I had in the Pinnacle Robots just to be consistent. Obviously it could have been any colour and how another paints their robots is an individual choice.

I tried and struggled to paint hunting tweed on the mad as much as I dared and finally came to the conclusion that this was as good as I was likely to get. Clearly he carries 2 shotguns and a walking stick so he is out for the day on the moors and in the heathers.

The last pic shows them all together. So you can judge the relative sizes. This allows you to see that the robots are clearly bigger than a man but are not giantish.

All the figures could easily be 28mm but all the robots could be bigger or smaller if desired.  Once again sorry Ray no Pink and Purple this time, but at least I did ask.

Slow progress. But at least progress.

Yes it has been slow. All spare time today/yesterday (depending on when you read this) was spent travelling and buying things... Nope only paint and Varnish and groceries and food and cleaning products. Boring stuff.

Here is the START (and only the start) of Matts Aeronef British fleet.

Not being an expert I was unable to tell which ships are which class etc. with luck no one will ask.

These 7 are just the start. I have about 50 in all to do. Matt does not do tings by half. No siree!

I went with a basic Black and white finish and bleached decks and yellow smoke stacks. Underneath they all have a red base. This was a tricky red and ended up as 3 coats. Luckily I have a quicker way now!. (and a different red and less translucent paint now.) It makes all the difference.

Now re-stocked with paint/brushes and varnish. I hope to be able to get more done and at a far faster rate.

Progress has been slow, but at least it is in the right direction now.

I am even getting tempted to make an airship! What did I type that out loud? Nurse the meds need to be increased fast.

8 More Cavalry

Yes Matt has 8 more cavalry. Yes the pic shows 9, one was one I had painted previously and Matt wanted these all to fit in with duller colours and more muted hues. I think I have achieved that.

There is a flag to add, but Matt will be adding the flags from now on as he KNOWS it is a task I detest. I am sure I could do it with practice but to be honest I do not enjoy that part of painting in the least so he can do it from now on.

Additionally Matt has yet to see these figures, I normally give him a sneak peek prior to posting on the blog. But as Matt is out of the office and on holiday (I hope somewhere nice.. let us be honest if it was not nice why did he choose to go there!!?)

I have placed the older figure among the group and I for one cannot tell it apart so don't ask me. The figures are all 28mm EITHER Perry or Foundry miniatures. (I think Perry as the horses seem more refined but I could easily be wrong)>

Another post on Saturday. The figures are already painted and ready to photograph but no time today. (As well as being in a different scale and part of the world so they would not fit in with this post)>

Thanks for looking and more in 2 days.

The Missing Pics

Last week I reported missing some pics of the stuff  I had been painting. Well I found them. By which I mean the camera found them. They did not appear one day but were there a few days later. And here they are.

They are all for Matt and part of his ever growing Sudan Collection. They are all also Egyptian, Matt knows I like painting them. And I think they are all old glory figures in 28mm.

Most are spare artillery crew figures along with 1 Nordenfelt Machine gun (Link to Wiki ). Clearly 4 of the figures, those in blue are officers, not just because they are pointing!

These to me are now "Old news" as they have already been returned to Matt and mighty pleased he was too.

Elsewhere on the painting table at least for now I have some Mahdist Cavalry (as well as 3 Madist foot) so expect them next week or maybe if you are unlucky for the next few weeks.

Of my own projects I have my last Deepone. He (or maybe it is a she... I cannot tell) was delayed because I could not find a suitable base. Now however a base has been found and I can crack on as fast as I like.

A Zombie... From the walking dead game nearly finished now and should be OK to show next week.

A platoon of 15mm WW2 Japanese finished at last. Purchased in February and now just about ready for a game or two. I will admit Vampifan reignited this project by giving me enough funds to buy the Type I Ho-Ro Tank destroyers. I will admit they put me into a buying frenzy for the project and I am now just about ready.. or I will be when I start painting up some armour, Well Tankettes at least.

I shall do a post about this project probably on Sunday. With everything painted so far. But I still have some stragglers on the painting table as well. But I hope to finish them over the weekend. Fingers crossed.

Well that tells you what is coming up. I must say I am looking forward to the Japanese as I have in the past played VERY little Pacific and far east Games.

Of the two I am hoping for more Pacific Japanese Vs American games, but I know Graham (at the club) wants more Far East games.

Finally there are 5 Napoleonic French on the table as well. Almost forgot those.

Right that is enough waffle. Have a good weekend and try not to get caught doing things you should not be doing! ((By her in doors!)

Bengal lancers again

I handed back a load of figures to Matt yesterday and the photos just have not come out. So whining aside here are some more Bengal Lancers.

6 in all and he tells me this is them all painted now. (until he either buys some more or finds some hidden away.). The models are either Perry or Foundry, he did tell me but the memory is not what it was.

The horses legs were very bendy as were the lances but other than that they were no problem to assemble. The problem is on the other side so you cannot see it. But trust me it is there.

Not my favourite things to paint nor actually my least favourite either but not something I would choose to paint for myself. (Those will be later this week, and yes one is another zombie). These will help Matt bolster his North West Frontier collection and  we are already talking about a game. So you should get to see them on the table before the end of the year.

That's it for today. I am still kicking myself about not photographing all the Egyptians (Colonial) I painted, but nothing I can do now so in my head trying to move on and get past this.

Take care, have fun and paint/game as much as you can.

Chinese Gordon

A figure painted yesterday afternoon. May I present Gordon Pasha (AKA Chinese Gordon, Gordon of Khartoum) or his less well known name Major General Charles George Gordon. ( LINK TO WIKI ).

Clearly a hero of the Victorian age, but most well known for his failed defence of Khartoum against the Mahdi.

I am sure we all remember the film but there is also a statue locally of him riding a camel. No You cannot see it as it inside an army barracks but trust me it is there.

Additionally you may recall seeing this famous painting which is probably the most famous painting by George W. Joy. And serves very well as a tribute to the Victorian Hero.

The figure is 28mm by Perry Miniatures (As Matt so kindly reminded me). And all the colours have been taken from the painting to the right. Clearly the artist was not present at the battle so perhaps the ending was not quite like this. Then again if you read Major General Gordon heroic exploits in the Crimean war perhaps it was.

Either way he is a hero without doubt and served well in the Sudan where he ended slavery.

Matt was due to collect him today but due to illness has had to postpone until later in the week or maybe this time next week.

Either way the figure was a joy to paint and I am sure he will be appreciated when Matt does collect him.

Yesterday at the club

Well I was not there long.  But while there I was able to play the walking Dead all out war 3 times.

The first game was mostly a dry run though to give the players an idea of the rules and the set up and just how the game worked.

Let me start by saying Ian won the first game. WE only played the basic set so really no frills at all. Just basic rules a few figures and I was referee.

Not our game just an Internet image.
I forgot the camera again
But a cool Thank you
to whom so ever posted this image
on the internet
The Second game (Yay I won) as a 3 way battle just grabbing loot and getting off of the board. very simple and very apt.

The third game was a similar set up but we moved the figures around so we all had different characters. This time I had Rick!

It was the only game where Rick got bitten by a Walker (Must remember not to say ZOMBIE!) got infected and died on the table! Guess who was controlling Rick. yeo me.

Kev won this game.

Conclusion: If playing 3 player games the "THREAT TRCKER" climbs the scale fast. Seriously fast. It was a joy that players realised quickly that making noise could be an offensive action as could running.  As if done correctly It could drag zombies into the melee and when facing 3+ zombies you were very limited in what you could do. And the chances are you would lose the melee.

Overall it was a very good game and a game we will play again. But first I need to get painting the figures as several times we were having trouble telling Walker from survivor as they were all the same colour plastic.

Changing the Subject:

I have also volunteered to paint some 28mm figures for a LOCAL show game. These will be Nappies and I do not usually paint Nappies so it will be a steep learning curve. 12 figures to a unit so I will try to get 2 units done. (3 IF I can... but aiming at 2 Units) Just to take the pressure of off another club member. SO if/when you see Napoleonic troops on this blog you do not have a fit with your leg up you now know the reason.

Additionally: Only 1 of my Purchases from my prize have so far turned up. Yes I am inpatient and am itching to get on with it. BUT hopefully a little more will arrive this week and I can do a blog post all about it. I just put this bit in as one of my club members was unaware of my win.

A Fist full of Burpas! (This batch now finished)

Yes another lot of Burpas for Matt.  A real mix of Foundry, Artizan, Ironclad and Empress. No I am not going to point out which is which I will just let you guess.

I could have posted 2 days ago, but as I know I would be asked for a group pic It was easier to wait and let you have it all at one time.  So sorry for the delay, but I hope the wait was worth it.

No It Wasn't... Oh well I cannot go back in time and change it! So we are both stuck with the wait.

yes the Photos were taken on different days and with different backgrounds. before anyone asks.

The final 2 pics at the end show all this batch together. No I do not know when a game is planned. But as soon as it is you will get an AAR of the game. I just cannot say fairer than that.

Thanks for looking and with luck another post on Thursday.

Maybe American Indians.... maybe something different, I just do not know yet.

Until then take care have fun and paint if you feel like it.

Yet more Burpas.

Yes I know.  But here they are anyway. 7 more Afghan/Indian hill tribesman for Matt. A mix of makes Including Wargames foundry and Ironclad Miniatures.. They are all mixed together so I cannot or will not try to explain which is which.

But here are my best guesses.

I think these 3 are Ironclad, not 100% sure but I believe them to be. At the recent Broadside show Matt purchased some and I think they are now reaching my paint table. If as I think they are Ironclad there is more coming.

I have painted them all in a mix of bright colours and dull colours to help with the rag tag look as I want them to look as much like an irregular force as possible. You will note that I do repeat colours, this is because it both saves me cleaning the brush when putting the base colour or and also knowing that there will be loads of tribesmen and that these will be scattered among them means that the similar colours should not be easily recognised. yes a person could easily sit down and point them out but when you look at them as a mass the eye is less picky.

The next 4 Again I think are foundry but again not 100% sure. But I will say so for now.  Again the colours are all mixed and all repeated. (There will be another 13 to come in this batch and as such the colours shall be more widely scattered so I am not concerned at present).  As mentioned the next 7 are already started and I will work on them each day until completion. I have tried to stick to the more brighter colours for those I perceived as being more wealthy. This is only conjecture on my part and I may well have it very different from real life or even what the sculptor wanted.  No Matter I have shown matt the "rushes" and so far he is happy with them.

Changing the subject: Yesterday I was told that I WON a prize on Vampifan's blog. ( LINK ). I would like to say thank you to the man and while I would like to say what I am getting it changes every time I look at the internet. I have loads of "interesting" ideas from WW2 to Horror to sci fi to Cheap women and Cigarettes. I am also thinking of several scales and at the same time just buying paint. I could for example buy a starter force for Bushido. Or an army in 6mm for the western desert. Or even some Judge Dredd or 15mm WW2 (I was looking at the LVT2 "Buffalo" for my pacific forces. ) As yet I am undecided but want to publicly acknowledge my thanks to Bryan for the generous prize. When I make a decision I will let you all know!

Have a good weekend
