top 10

Well the Analogue Painting Challenge has ended for another year. And as my 2nd year involved I have done slightly better than last year managing to get in the top ten painters. Which means I have come in at no.10. This is not a measure of skill but of production. If it was skill I would probably have come somewhat lower. Still I worked to the criteria and I for one am pleased with my 10th place.

Next year (assuming there is another challenge) I will act very differently. I will settle on a lower production level but I will enter the side challenges and try to amass bonus points where I can. As this year I did not do any of the bonus rounds I just wanted a "Pure Points" target. I hasten to add there is no slight intended by anyone who went for bonus points it is all part of the challenge and as I have said next year (well late this year) I will do the same.

I still have figures to put on my blog from the challenge and will start doing that soon, just not today. One of the issues I have had with the painting challenge is that I was only allowed to make post onto the challenge forum on set days (Every Monday in my case). This has meant that my own blog has suffered as here I would normally post every other day. So to get back in the swing I will post again tomorrow. And then every other day after that. Well that's the plan but I am sure real life will stop that soon.

So thanks to you all for your support and in 9 months it all starts again!

Cheers Clint

  1. Congratulations Clint on both your placing and reaching your targets.
Anyting that acts as an incentive to reduce the lead mountain has to be a good thing, which reminds me...

    ... I need a Paint Monkey !

    1. What do you need painting mate. I am sure I can help. (If it is just 1or 2 figures I will happily do them for a man like you. Free of charge, more than that I would have to though)
But More importantly thanks mate. Your kind words are appreciated.
      Thank you Joe.

    2. Thanks for the offer Clint, but what I was really saying was that I need to motivate myself like you do in your alter ego !

  2. Nice one.
I couldn't stick with the pace of The Challenge, so those, like yourself, who've managed to go the distance deserve a round of applause.

    1. Thanks Roy I had terrible painters burn out last year after the challenge so I took stock this year and as it is a marathon and not a sprint tried to select thing to paint that would not take to much time or effort. (Ok not always). I will be painting again tomorrow just for fun.

    1. As I have bought only a few figures during the challenge the waiting queue has been cut a little, not nearly enough though.

      Thanks Boib

    1. No burn out this year (I hope). I may well start making terrain next week. But I had better not say anymore. I always try to comment on the challenge (don't always succeed) as we are all in it together.
      Thanks for the comment.
      Cheers Mate.

  6. Congrats on your well-deserved 10th place! Your output this year was great.

It's interesting that we both went "pure" points and upped our outputs (and placings)

    1. Thank you Tamsin. I did not realise that you were "pure points" as well. It did help me as I was not trying to get things done that I would never use. Next year though I will try bonus rounds as I do think I missed out in some ways.

  9. A very credible 10th place, I for one it's not a rating of skill or I would be very much lower than placed this year.

Last year I did all the bonus rounds and did a lot less points wise as I found it took more time to work those rounds than not so. This year only two bonus rounds saw me take part

    1. Thanks Ian. I think it is good to mix it up a bit and although I am thinking of doing all the bonus rounds next year it does make me realise that I will only really be doing the ones that I want to do. So it depends on what the bonus rounds are.

    1. I hope you can make it back next year as it is always good to see your work Paul. I feel like painting battletech robots today (and watching the rugby of course)
      Cheers Paul.

  12. You are Top Ten Clint and now you have proved it! It's interesting that by painting strictly for your own projects and not for bonus rounds has upped your output. I suspect it my have helped prevent burnout too.

    1. Thanks Robert. I feel I must agree with you. I think another factor was not trying to stay on one subject but to Just paint what I felt like. But Next time I want to do most if not all the bonus rounds.

    1. Thanks Ray. I do feel I was sacrificing quality for quantity some times so a much smaller target next time I think is the way forward for me.

    1. Thanks Dave, but it was a mere fraction of your output. Your Sudan project is huge. And you painted many more camels. I have missed painting any camels this time out, but maybe next time!

    1. Thank you Millsy.

The thing is I know I can paint better so next time I will go slower and hope to be happier with the results. I also feel I was missing out on some of the fun with the bonus rounds.

You did an awesome job no way I would be able to hold down a job and paint at your speed.
