Games I liked at Salute 2015

This is not a collection of all the games or even all the games I liked at Salute this year. It is just a few snaps of games that caught my eye for one reason or another sometimes with comments but mostly without.

Too Fat Lardies ultra modern rules and game

Another modern game set in the cold war of the 1980s<
One does wonder if after this year this will ever get used again?

Stingray, A nice idea, and anything can happen in the next 30 minutes

I did like these figures and basing.

For me my favourite looking game. An era and setting I like.
I also like the 20mm scale from Leicter Fat Cats If I remember correctly.

Above and below 2 different Samurai games both in 28mm
Funny how wargames has fashionable periods

Crush the Kiaser with a reasonably large Zeplin
I did ask them if they couldn't get a larger one.

Across the Dead earth.
So nice I bought the rules.
Having read about it on other blogs

I thought this the nicest building of the day.

This was nice in that they did move some of the tables
when the boats moved.
A novel idea.

MDF ships. And very nice cost cutting idea for the scale.
Just imagine the cost in resin or metal.

Nice to see WW2 was not a seasonal affair.

I think these guys were German. Makes you wonder what
they put in the beer out there!
Mostly included for my Nephews benefit.

A very nice Swedish medieval game.
England is an island nation and we do tend to look to our history first.

Perhaps saving the best 2 games till last.
Quite large models of ATATs in the assault on Hoth.

My Photography does not do it justice and I am told it won the prize for best show game.
And while it is lovely I do wonder what will happen to it!

Just to give you all something to throw darts at.
(Please print it out first)
POSTIE won a prize in the entrance
before we even got into the show.
Makes a change from Ray!
So well done mate.
That's my ramblings for today over with. My conclusion of the show is that it is just too large for me personally. I would have been happy if it was 1/2 the size. As a consequence I am in 2 minds whether to go next year.

Back to normal posting about wargames on Thursday. Thanks for looking and with luck see you all soon.

  2. Terrific posting Clint. So many games I missed. You raise an interesting point about being too big, as I found there simply wasn't enough time to see all of the stalls - let alone the games, and as such I was flying from one seller to the next without having the time to just stand and look at what they had or what 3ups they were displaying. Not sure two days is the answer though...

    1. Thanks Simon, I wish we had met at the bloggers meet up.

I am not sure 2 days is the answer either. maybe clustering the stalls by type of things they sell. But that would not make people especially traders happy I suspect.

I don't think there is an easy solution. Imagine if you were working a stall and only had 1 hours break!!!

  3. Nice report - One of the reasons I just haven't been able to justify going to Salute from the states is because while grand in scale it's also very short in duration at only 7 or 8 hours. Given the expense of London I doubt making it a multi-day event is feasible.

One day I'll manage to schedule a business trip to coincide with the show.

    1. Thanks Mate. I am sure you will be able to at some point. I think the show has grown to the extent that to change it would cause issues. But for me and as a personal observation only it's just too big.

  4. Thanks for sharing, Clint. There was so much to take in. It must be really difficult to get to see everything in there.

    1. Thanks Bryan. I am sure some people manage it but do not think I have seen every thing there for a good number of years. And I tend to go back to the same trade stalls time and again. The same with the games.

    1. Yes mate. When you think of how many hours it would have taken to make each board and the troops. You soon realise what a wonderful hobby we are part of with so many talented people.

    1. No worries Bob, It all buys me a little time before I have to paint something again!

  7. The show does need to be on longer, but how the sellers would manage that, I ed don't know. I could easily have spent another 4+ hours at the show. I might not have been able to walk or even stand at the end of the day, but at least I'd have a chance to look at everything I want to???
    Great pix btw!!!

    1. Cheers Ray. I am feeling a lot of Anti-climax now about the show. I will seriously consider not going next year.

  8. Great pics. Love that Cold war ship board. I can think of tons of uses for it 7TV Spy games for one!

    1. Thanks Simon. Yes I grant you there are uses for the ship, But generally I think once it is used 4 times or more it will get "stale" But that in no way stops me liking it.

  9. Thanks for sharing the eye candy Curt, some great stuff there. I often take similar photos and years later wonder why did I take that pic? then think: oh yes, I thought the river/forest/hedge/irrelevant factor was particularly nice (or similar rubbish!)

    1. No worries Paul. Salute is such a big show I could take hundreds of pictures of the games but in the end we have to be reasonable.

  11. Great post mate. Have to agree about the size of the show...it is big and hard to get around in just a day, especially if your are trying to take pictures of everything. I rushed around in the first couple of hours and then went back for a slower look and shop, but I'm sure there was loads I missed. Some stalls were so busy I couldn't get close enough to buy anything and I tried to revisit them later. I know I missed a couple but by the tie I left - about 4:30 - I couldn't go on any more and I'd had enough. NEXT year I'm hiring a Sedgeway to get e around the hall!!

  12. Thanks Lee. I am debating in my head whether to go next year or not. But if I do I think I will have a pedometer with me to see how many miles I walk in the day.

  13. I think I must have been stood next to you when you took the photo of the Star Wars game. The ATAT had just walked across the trench and was about to blow up the rebel base! My son enjoyed playing this game so much it meant my time looking around the rest of the show was very limited!

    1. It is very possible that we did stand beside each other. I am glad your son enjoyed the game it was good to look at but seemed too busy for me to join in.
      Thank you Lee.
