Well this is very different!

Before you say anything, This is not what I look like in the morning! Honest it is not. No it really is not!

But it is a Games Workshop Rhino! Well that is how it started.  And you can still see it underneath 1/2 a packet of miliput! This is not for me, but for my nephew, who has now given up on ORKS and is doing Chaos Marines instead. I know youngsters what can you do. So I started with a very old beaten up plastic Rhino that I got at a boot fair and set about making a possessed version. The down side is that it is pretty delicate and I expect it to break on it's first outing to a GW shop! Look we all just know it will, so no point worrying or crying or complaining it is just what kids are like. And I had all the fun of making it!

I actually started with the rolling stones tongue then built up the teeth, then cheeks and eyes and boy did I have some fun (erhm frustration)! The two arms are from old Tyranids and the Tail is from a stegadon as are the two fangs at the front. Every other change is miliput!

A simple paint job and a dirty up and we are done! My personal favourite part is the green putrid wart on the tongue. But I am nasty like that!

I would be tempted to make something else for him like this BUT I would rather encourage him to make his own and not rely on GW! To me that is one of the hobby joys and especially when you are doing something like Chaos to make it your own!

Hopefully he will like it enough to look after it! If not "If I can Make it once I can surely repair it!" That assumes he will let me and not just get bored with it like he has the killer cans I gave him.

That's it for today, something a little different for me but it would be boring if I always did the same things! Back to more VBCW figures next!

All the best Cheers Clint

  5. Wow! I like it..fantastic sculpting and kit bashing. The result is spectacular. I love the Stones' tongue starting it all off too. I have an old Rhino kit sitting around somewhere and this is inspiring.

    1. Thanks Dean. I have very little sculpting experience so I am sure you can match or improve on the results with a bit of time and effort!

  8. It's bloody brilliant! Very creative and fun conversion.

You may not look like this first thing in the morning, but I'm betting money it's what Mick Jagger looks like. That man is absolutely hideous :0)

  9. Fantastic work Clint, it reminds me what got me dragged to the hobby!

When I was thinking about what 40k army should I play (needles to say, that is how I ALMOST started as well, FOW being my savior!) I settled for Soul drinkers, who are basically the good guys, but their bodies were mutated. I was really looking forward to bashing them all!

  11. It's a lovely little model, although thoroughly representative of all that I dislike about WH40K (I mean, possessed, demonic tanks - come on!). Kudos doing this for a nephew, though - I hope that he appreciates it :-) .

    1. Thanks C6, I do know what you mean. For me it is when GW make one and all the kids buy it and they all look the same then it just get "Meh!" because everyone has one! But a one off I think is OK as I know his friends and anyone in a warhammer shop will want one but not be able to have one! And that makes it Chaotic!

    1. Thanks Roy. All the nice comments have got me thinking of doing another one, if I can get another donor vehicle CHEAP! Has to be cheap though. (That is not a hint to anyone BTW!)

    2. Well, I'll tell you what I can remember seeing from back in the mid-90s. A fellow gamer's dad began making Rhinos and Landraiders out of wood - solid pieces, with just the basic shape created - and then the extras could be sculpted on or painted. I never had a go myself, thankfully.

  13. I just don't "Get- it!", but do appreciate the conversion work and paint-job. I can understand that it was probably a nice break from the more 'serious' stuff you've been working on recently. Now that you've got that "off your chest", please just take your meds and return to nomality. (just kidding btw)

    1. Thanks Joe. It is funny a 50 year old woman (with no children) has asked me to make one for her! I have said I will paint a figure for her instead!
Trust me Nurse there are times when the Meds just don't work!!!
