Dawn and time to storm the castle. (no Not yet)

Ok it is not dawn and time to storm the castle. But the photos have that quality due to the light levels when taking the pictures. THIS WAS NOT DELIBERATE! I think it was just too early in the morning and the sun (or I) was not awake just yet. I could muck about with the light levels on the computer but decide against that plan.

So 5 newly painted Peasants with a variety of weapons including one with a sickle! £ of the weapons were broken over time so instead of pitchforks and scythes they just carry clubs. I am OK with that as too many pitchforks and scythes would appear wrong in my opinion. I still have more pitchforks and scythes in my lead pile so if no more break I will be happy.

At the end is a group shot of the 15 so far painted, and an acknowledgement that I am about 1/2 way there. Looking at the group shot I see I need more yellows and mustards and creams so that will be my plan for the next lot. But before I even start them I have Burpas and Zulus already primed. So MAYBE next week.

Thanks for looking today next post Monday and with luck a decent club game.

All the best to you and yours Clint

  1. Peasants look great enmass! I agree to many sickles and pitchforks would look odd. A stout piece of wood would still bloody hurt!

    1. Thank you Simon. Having been hit by large lumps of wood I can confirm it does hurt! More so it is just the sort of thing one might find laying about!

  2. Terrific stuff Clint, and the group shot does your efforts full justice I assure you. It looks like day is just about to break and here come an angry horde of peasants who have other things than innocently toiling the land on their mind!!

    1. Thanks Blax. I think I have another 14 to do (should I choose) but this is more than enough to get started. "EN Garde" meets Van Helsing has started.

    1. Thank you Tamsin. I think you need a few peasants in any revolt!

    1. Thank you Bryan. If I ever finish them I will do a group shot of the whole lot ..... should be about 30 in all. Which using En Garde rules would be about 120 pts... maybe a few more. And I know at least 1 player who would want at least that many.

  5. That's a good group shot at the end there, and the chaps with stouts lengths of timber (the broken scythes) look good within the group since they add variety to the weapons and poses.

I'm currently painting bits for To the Strongest, on 120mm frontage bases, so am just picturing a big 120mm square of (Deep / Mob) peasants on the battlefield all ready to ... Well, probably not do much as their stats would be so poor. But if they ever did do something great, imagine the bragging rights! :))

    1. Thank you Roy. There are a couple of people at the club who delight in having the "worst" army just so that if they ever win they can feel smug.

  6. That's an impressive looking mob Clint and I think the 'clubs' work beautifully.

    1. Thank you Michal. If I am honest I could have repaired the scythes but as I think I have enough I decline to do so as I also think the clubs work well.

  7. Great stuff Clint! You need one or two with flaming torches to complete the rabble look...

    1. Thanks Millsy. Yes flaming torches would improve the rabble. I can see a few conversions coming.

  8. They look great, Clint!
I would agree, clubs don't look out of place at all.

At the risk of being 'that guy', scythes should be pointing upwards, as they didn't gather to reap the wheat this time!

    1. Thanks Mathyoo. I just paint what is put in front of me but I do appreciate the information as you just never know when it will come in handy.

    1. Thank you Joe. At this stage they are destined to be used in a horror version of "En Garde". That may of course changed.
