yet more Burpas!

yes one is on a horse. last night I finished 7 more Burpas, all 28mm from a mix of makes including Emperess, Foundry and Perry Miniatures. It gived them a nice mix and helps them look more like a rabble. Which I think is the look that Matt is going for. And to promote that look they are also from different ranges, some are North African and others Indian Hill tribesmen.

I have 7 more to paint in this batch so expect another 7 figures painted soon. Well soonish, I have the para Olympics which needs some serious watching as I do admire the atheletes who overcome adversity to achieve!

AS you can see these do look quite diverse and yet still look realistic and to my uneducated eye just about right for a colonial period game.

Below are some close ups and it surprises me how well they seem to fit with the terrain. Considering the backdrop is actually America printed out on the computer.

That's it for now, thanks for looking and I hope you day goes well.

All the best Clint

    1. Thanks |Roy do not forget these have all been enlarged up so they can look a little untidy. And I am now struggling with some colour choices/ combos/

    2. Sorry Clint. My fault. It seems what I meant got lost in translation - I meant I liked the sculpt with its scarf-thing hanging down from its shoulders, which you've painted pink. I didn't know what to call the item of clothing so I called it a lazily worn cravat (as it should be tied, or something). As to the pink, I really like the colour, especially in the combination of the mustardy colour you've used for the top the figures wearing.
      Apologies for any confusion.

    3. No worries Roy I guessed that is who you meant and enlarged the photo and was not happy with the painting when I did so.

I think we both may have misinterpreted our replies. I got all self conscious of the painting when enlarged!

Onm a side note I am NOW finding the colour choices difficult. I do not want to repeat too many colours and give them any form of uniformity But I suspect that may happen anyway.

I Blame myself for moving of topic and making you feel as if you had done something wrong. All My fault and I do apologise.

    4. :) No worries, I just figured we'd both got our wires crossed.

I'm painting up a load of Ancient Germans for a horde, like you I'm finding repetition of colours an issue, luckily for me I can add in a quick contrast colour around the hem of a sleeve or shirt, or a stripe or two down a trouser leg - Is that possible with the Burpas? Can't say I've seen any fancy thread work on those type of clothes though, so probably not.

    5. Thanks Roy I have no idea what colours are allowed. But Ancient Germans did use many different coloured weaves. So Knock yourself out and if you Need to know what colours are dyeable (not sure that is actually a word) just ask as I have done enough dark age re-enactment to know what and how to dye different colours. Or don not ask and retain some sanity!

  5. Wonderful work once again Clint. You really seem to have gotten the hang of these Burpas and are cranking them out. Colourful and full of character (great eyes on the horse-rider) :-)

  7. I like how these guys look Clint. Regarding your concerns about them looking too uniform remember that these guys are probably all buying their cloths or cloth from the same source so choices may be limited.

    1. Thank you Adam. I suspect you may be right there would only be limited opportunities to buy materials with regard to both time and number of traders.
