Dwarf Lord Balin

Yes as promised a Lord of the rings figure. This is the Dwarf Lord "Ballin". It is a Games workshop figure and part of the Lord of the rings range. I believe you are to get 2 figures in the pack but as this was via eBay I only bought 1 figure and a happy chap I am as well.

I an not a huge dwarf fan (pun not intended but I am more than happy to go with it!) However I have really enjoyed painting this character. I have not seen the film(s) of the Hobbit so if the colours are wrong kindly forgive me. But at least there is no Orange hair as GW tend to want on their dwarf slayers for some reason. (No I don't understand it either!).

In fact I have enjoyed painting this figure so much I have bid on some more on eBay. Let me know if you want me to paint them regularly, (maybe once a fort night), of not. And I will try to make it happen, or not happen if you only want it intermittently.

Sorry the Flash has bleached out some of the colour, but such are the joys of photoing small models and having a flash!

But the 3 picks SHOULD give you an idea at the very least.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT
Yeah I have been feeling a bit down with my birthday approaching and no one ever knows what to get me. However, I scanned eBay (always amusing) and found a bargain. A terrific bargain I hope and definitely one I am excited about. I cannot/ will not/ shall not give very many more details other than to show the box and let you know it is now hidden away for my Birthday. Therefore in a few weeks there will be another post on here about this gift. Yes I had to buy it and have been given the money already.... but at least this way I get what I want.

Until next time take car, have fun and paint like crazy!

All the best Clint

  1. GW knows that us Gingers are a tough, scrappy lot and just the types to take on trolls, giants and dragons (not forgetting the occasional daemon). Unfortunately I've retired now from slaying things, so have to call in pest control for any dragon infestations we suffer.

Is the Dwarf for Songs of Blades and Heroes?

    1. Thank you Roy. I do Hope he is destined for "Songs" as that is my intention. And I hope to follow in the foot prints of better wargames than me with this . Only time will tell IF I succeed.

You are far to tall to be a GW Dwarf! Nice try though!

  3. Fab job mate. I do love the classic metal LOTR Dwarves such a great style they had. Esepcially the hard to get (at a reasonable price at any rate) Iron Guard.

I believe this is from the first run of LOTR so colours etc are in the eye of the beholder. :) I have to laugh as I am painting Fantasy stuff myself at the moment instead of more Walking Dead stuff....as planned

    1. Thank you Simon. You are right fantasy can be whatever colour you choose. And I just so happen to like Blue!

I have enough Iron guard so will not need to buy any more, BUT I do appreciate the thought. I Probably have enough Dwarves if I am honest and not nearly enough elves. nephew and friends seemed to snaffle them up pretty quickly.

Oh well Rohirim next I think...... when I say next I of course mean next of the LotR figures.

    2. I have Gildor Inglorion from GW on my list of figures to collect and paint. Quite hard to get hold these days.

    3. Thank you Simon. A slight hiccup yesterday (Thursday) so now a day behind schedule.... but looking to catch up quickly.

As for LotR. Yes some figures are hard to find and as such expensive. However as I intend to use "songs of Blades and Heroes!" I will not need masses of figures.... Having said that I know it will go wrong now and instead of just a few I will probably need LOADS.

  4. Nice paint-job, but sadly dwarfs tend to leave me cold - I blame GW.

    1. Thanks Joe. I feel that either one likes either Dwarves or Elves but hardly ever both. So your comment is completely understandable to me.

  5. I can't keep up with all these different subjects you post up these days, Clint. Steam tanks, BoB, sci-fi, Land Of The Dead, and now "Lord Of The Rings" - great to see such wonderful diversity :-) Hopefully we'll be seeing plenty of the Iron Guard over the next few weeks ;-)

    1. Thank you blax. No I think this is the last Dwarf for a while. The rest are finished and put away. maybe Orcs or Rohirim next for LotR.

For me I have 2 more squads of Foot sloggers for BoB already started. For Matt, a Fantasy Wyrm emerging from the ground and some more Aeronef.

All of which I want finished by the weekend.

    1. Thank you Michael. The Birthday pressie indeed does float my boat quite a lot! But I will have to wait 2-3 weeks before I will know for sure. After that time IF it is as good as I think expect some updates.

  8. Ah! now I know why you were asking about my LOR figs. I have
quite a lot, many still need painting. As you are using "Songs" I do have enough to play with and for others to use.
My chose of troops will be Urik-Hai.

    1. Thanks Tim. Yes "Songs of Drums and Hero's " would be my rule choice. Tim of the white hand. (Only Isengard would have Uriks in the Nan Anduin Valley)
