I was not in the mood!

Yep yesterday was club day and I just was not in the mood. But at least we have seen Peter and Bob at the club. Both have had medical problems recently so It was a Joy to see them again. Welcome back to the club guys.

So anyway yesterday we, as a club played "En garde!" a set of rules by Osprey. To complex to write a AAR for as so many playing. But these were my force, just 3 cavalry. I had a horse with a light wound but otherwise survived the battle unscathed . Which  was commented on several times... Yeah Thanks Matt!

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!
Also since I last posted my mother has been feeding Rhinos at the zoo. Yes I know the Photo is on the side, it was taken on a mobile phone and has had trouble reaching me, so just be happy it is here at all. BEFORE anyone does try this the food was given to her by a zoo keeper (who looks after this particular Rhino) and was standing 2 paces away overseeing the whole thing. So guess who has been told about this several times even if I was not Invited to go my self.

So here is what I have painted. It did require a tidy up in order to find the pike. And Now that does complete the sprue of ECW figures. (Until I buy more of course!). Another Scott's covenanter and enough to get an "en garde!"force up to 100 points as I now have sufficient Pike and Shotte to put a force in the field (or on the table at least)

That's it for today. Back to building terrain but I am not ready to share that just yet. Have a good Bank holiday and I will see you soon.

All the best Clint

  1. It sounds like you're having a not-too-bad Bank Holiday Clint - there's a bit of gaming, painting and er, 'zooing' :-)
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on "En Garde" as a game. I've got a copy of the rules, but they look a bit 'fiddley' ;-)

    1. Thank you addict. I really rate "En Garde" highly. The rules are actually simple.I would suggest is DO NOT let anyone play the Musketeers as they are TOO powerful.

But with minimal adaptions they can be used for any skirmish game up to about Franco Prussian war. (I am considering using them for Stoneage as a participation set at shows).

I would suggest you bear with them and give them a good try. No set of rules is to everyones taste so you may hate them. All I can say is for me and my club they work well but everyone is different and they may not work for you.

If you want to go into more details on how the mechanics work I can/be happy to, Just leave a note asking "How does Such and such work!" and I will post a reply as son as I am able.

    1. Thank you Bryan. I shall be making/repairing some terrain ... well mostly. I may stat some new terrain as well or (which is most likely) do some painting.

  3. Must have been great to see the club members return Clint, your luck in the games seems to be going well. Another great looking figure for your ECW. Enjoy the what's left of the weekend in whichever pursuit takes your fancy

    1. Thank you Dave. Bit hot at present in the shed, so time to answer emails. Terrain is looking OK but have to purchase more supplies soon. I promise to show you when closer to finish.

  4. At least you're managing to do something hobby-related, even if it just seems you're pushing three horsemen around to while away the day.
Like yu, I'm also doing a bit of scenery unlike you only mnanaged to look at figures that need painting rather than painting any.
Have a good holiday Clint and continue taking it easy ! (works for me)

    1. Thank you Joe, don't put yourself down I am sure you are doing plenty. I imagine you like a swan the legs are going crazy and yet on the surface no one knows.

  5. I don't know what it is, but I have struggled to get anything done over the Bank Holiday too. Love the shot of mum and a rhino, I bet that wasn't what you imagined you would see when you woke up that morning. :)

    1. Thank you Michael. I only have 5 photos from the zoo visit. But the whole trip was arranged by neighbours of my aunt who are zoo keepers.

I actually got a lot done including a trip to B+Q to buy more paint! More of this later in the week IF it works out.

  6. Very interesting mate. I'm fact my wife and I were discussing rhinos today...we've been to a zoo today and was reminiscing that 26 years ago we had our honeymoon in Egypt and visited Cairo Zoo (otherwise known as the zoo that health and safety forgot!) where she hand fed a Rhino.

  7. Enthusiasm (and time!) for painting, playing or indeed anything else in life comes and goes. At least, it does so for me; I assume it's much the same for everyone. Don't worry about it :-) .

Musketeers, eh? One of my many "that would be nice to collect/paint/play" genres...

    1. Thank you Colgar. Yep we all have the doll drums at times. It was short lived for me in this instance. For which I am grateful.

    1. Thank you Brummie. feeding all animals is pleasant. Which is not meant to diminish the feeding of an exotic animal. I did not do it and I am a little jealous!
