Board Update 2.

Opposite is the area I will build the temple entrance. Having made a few sketches I am now ready to start on it. I shall say no more about it at present except to confirm that it will have a dark doorway into the rock face. All the work should be in 3mm Grey board and Mounting board and will be attached to the cliff and base section of the board.
Here we can see the overhang for the waterfall from the right hand side. It has taken 3 coats of plaster and some polystyrene blocks  to get it to jut that far out.
Also from the left and side. The dark green gully is where the waterfall will flow. (I expect you had already figured that out. ) I think I will need one more skim coat of plaster to go on when the actual waterfall is in place. But for now I think the cliff is finished in construction. I say in construction as I still need to give it a coat of watered down PVA to seal it. And then to painty the whole thing to get a better look to the terrain board.

The last picture today shows the waterfall in position. The Perspex is covered in cling film for protection and is in no way finished. You can also just make out the small crocodile cave at the waterfall base has changed shape and is now slightly less regular in appearance. My next steps will be to acquire some stepping stones and also to  coat the main area with a mixture of PVA, Plaster Paint and Sand in order to give the whole thing some texture.

The heat and general stickiness is restricting my ability to finish to much as I am dripping even when I stand still. (Which is not pleasant for me or anyone else who's close by!)

The Thunder and lightning (Fork Lightning by the way) has done very little to reduce humidity, but was quite the loudest thunderstorm I have ever heard last night and has kept me awake since 4am.....

Next time however I hope to have my "Cannibals" done. So more painting joy on the way. Thanks for reading. Take care and hope to see you on Thursday. All the best Clint

  1. I must admit the Thunderstorm was amazing, I stood looking at it for quite a while, still as hot as Lucifers bumhole though, the board is coming along damn nice my friend!

    1. I live opposite a golf course so open flat lad got a good view of the weather effects.

Thank you Fran. Once it gets finished you'll have to come down for a game on it. Would make a good blob post for us both.

  3. Thunder and lightening ? .... "When I were a lad" ... etc.

The terrain is looking very, very exciting. I reckon anyone seeing the end product will want to play on it, I know I do already.
Waterfall looks the part now with the overhang looking very menacing; are you having some form of spray effect at the bottom to hide the croc cave too ?

    1. .... and Dinosaurs ruled the Earth. (sorry Jo could not resist!)

I hope people will want a game or two. I am actually using it to try out some ideas for the game I want to put on at BROADSIDE next year.

There will be water splash effects at the bottom of the pool. I will sand the clear Perspex at the bottom as well as use some white spray paint.... I still want to see through the waterfall though so nothing too heavy.

  4. The boards coming along great, can't wait to see the end result! As for that damn lighting, it was so close, it was like someone flashing a spot light through my window at 2am. Amazing to see but damn tired now

    1. Cheers Dave the neighbours report that 4 TVs and 2 Computers are not working after the storm. So that tells me how violent it must have been.

  5. That's great! I guess shows really let you go wild with boards. Playing on something like this has to be great, but it is not the most handy for weekly games.

Doing something like Petra and Abu Simbel with the temple?

    1. The temple will be a LOT less ornate than those two but going into the mountain in a similar way.

It currently looks like the board will not be used at a show. But I have come too far to abandon it now. So I will continue.

  6. That is a lot of plaster Clint. And that crocodile cave is a cool idea. Can't wait to see them lurking in there waiting for someone to snack on.

It's hot and sticky here as well. I went out today and lasted for about 2 hours before giving up. We had rain for 2 days, it cooled down, then steamed right back up. Hope you guys get a break soon!

  7. To be honest I am also intrigued as to know the Perspex waterfall will turn out. Having only seen one professional model of a waterfall (Frank Lloyd Wrights "Falling Water" House) about 30 years ago I really am winging it!

  8. This is all very exciting, I got to say that the cling film wrapped perspex already looks like water even if it was only for protection!

    1. Don't worry I will keep going. Unfortunately a combination of school holidays and very hot weather may slow me down from here on in.
