The Foot (started for ECW)

Yes only a start do not get excited there are only 4. Not that I will be doing many. The Absolute most I could have in "En Garde" is 18. And then they would be the least able and most lightly armed. The very cheapest troop is 4 points (and is shall we say "a Reluctant" soldier at best with no real skills) To give them either a pike or a matchlock (Arquibus makes no difference in the game) is another 3 points. So 7 points for the cheapest of the cheap. Which means for 100 points 18 troops likely to run for the hills at the first opportunity. So as I said I will not need many.

I do hasten to say I have already started some more. Another 2 with guns. I was going to do another 2 with pike as well but for now I have lost a pike.

They are on 25mm slotta bases just to keep them all the same, Clearly the pikes do not fit on the bases but they are stable enough to play with and do not fall over (Famous last words). That being the case I shall continue with this as the base system.

I have only purchased a single sprue at present but may get more in the future as to be honest I am enjoying them. So who knows I may et more, but at this stage I do not plan to.

The last pic did not really come out in focus but hard luck it is too cold to take it again I the snow. And it still gives an idea.

The basic uniform colour is green with cream cuffs. I have no idea if this is a specific uniform but I do know it is generic enough to be on either side. And I did want them generic so they could fight on either side. because that is the kind of guy I am firmly perched on the fence and happy to be there.

That's it for today as it continues to snow and is generally unpleasant weather wise. All the best and take care

Clint

  1. It looks like you're off to a good start with your foot troops and it is pleasing to note that you are enjoying painting these. That makes such a difference.

    1. Thanks Bryan. It does indeed make a difference. But as I will need about 10 I do not think it will take long to do them at all. In fact the next 3 are started already.

    1. Thank you Blax. Already got the next 2 blog posts done and photographed. And working on the next 2-3. That just gives you how far I am working ahead. I have even ordered something to try to pick up on the weekend (weather permitting). So sometimes the enthusiasm has slightly waned by the time I get around to posting.

  3. Nice additions to your ECW collection Clint :-)
Baccus provide a handy little eight page pdf which gives a basic guide to uniform colours here :-

but you're right, coat colours were very generic and there was so little difference between the sides, which was why they wore "field signs" in their hats to tell them apart :-)

    1. Thank you Addict. ECW is a period I have steered clear of for so long . I admit I know nothing of the period. When people say they could write all they know on the back of a postage stamp realistically I think I could on about 4-5 stamps. However there is a Sealed Knot member I know who has pointed me in the right direction, when he does not get side tracked that is, but then I usually get side tracked instead!

    2. Considering what a large part the "British" (it involved ALL of our countries) civil war played in our history, I think it's a shame so little is 'general knowledge'.
Not only did it shape our own constitution, but arguably if it never happened there might never have been a French revolution (and therefore no Napoleonic war), and there would be no precedent for the American civil war ;-)

    3. Thank you again. As stated I know next t nothing about this conflict. And I must admit the politics of the era does not greatly interest me either. Clearly though I need to educate myself more on the subject.

    1. Thanks Warrior. When massed they should look cool, however I will only have a few so they won't look as good as I would hope.

    1. Thank you Dave. For colours I have stuck to colours I know I could dye in the 10th century figuring they would at least be able to dye them in the UK

    1. Thanks Simon. But it is only a start, but as I keep saying I only need about 10 so almost 1/2 way
