Have you stoped poking the Deepones yet?

Okay my final deepone is now finished.  So Just a quick post, mostly due to the fact I have found I get les page views on the weekend.

As you can see this was painted to match the rest of the Deepones. There was a delay as I just did not have the right base for it. Now I freely admit this was my choice and nothing but my choice. A base was supplied by Black Cat ( LINK to Shop ) and it did fit with the other bases they supplied HOWEVER I decided on an MDF base for this figure and had to wait for it to arrive.

As it has now arrived I promptly finished the Deep one off. By that I mean painted it and not fed it poison, you get the idea.  So Now I have all 5 painted and ready for In Her Majesties name.... or at least I will have when I get some hybrids. (And I suspect that will be soon).

being as this one crawls the base is somewhat bigger than the others, which is no problem to me and most likely not to you either. I went for a VERY simple base to represent either beach or possible river bank or in extreme cases sea bed.  Just a quick dry brush with a lighter sand colour and a couple of tufts was all it needed.

I was also able to finish a Vulture. This is by EMP Miniatures ( Shop Link ) and you can see it is on their front page and also Stocked by Col Bill (Col Bill Shop Link)) so easy to pick up at shows.

This is for Matt when he collects his latest batch of figures. Again there was an issue and I had to supply my own base and AGAIN it is my choice to do so. The model does come with 2 metal pins cast on the figure so is easy to attach to fences, poles, dead bodies etc.. But I did not have any at this time suitable so I wanted it free standing. Therefore I put it on a flying base.  Matt knows nothing about this so unless he tunes it it will e a surprise. Ahh but if you cannot give a little gift to a friend the world is a sad place.

I am not 100% sure the colours are exactly right as I was working more from Walt Disney (jungle book) that real life. But let's be honest who really cares. There are after all 22 Speicesof Vulture on this planet so the chances are it will be close enough to one of the types. And if not I will concede a wildlife expert follows my blog and that is even better than being right.

next post on Tuesday and VERY likely to be WW2 15mm PBI Japanese.. It is no good I can already hear you yawning but that is what it will most likely be despite that.

Enjoy the rest of the Weekend.

All the best Clint

    1. Thank you Matt. the Lizard thing is a crawling deep one. I found it trickier than the standing deep ones but it was still a quick paint job.

  2. The photographic backdrop for the vulture works well. Very suitable. It all looks good to me. I'm working on 10mm WW2 at the moment, so 15mm Japanese suits me just fine.

    1. Thank you Roy. 10mm WW2 was something I was going to do (Western Desert)but I got side tracked in a big way. Kindly let me know what part of WW2 you will be doing and I may be able to pass a few vehicles on ... (Old skytrex)

I'm currently converting German vehicles for Operation Greif - Panther ersatz M10 tanks. Its my first time using plasti-card, so its all fun and learning as I go.

    3. Most of my stuff is Western Desert 8(
But I will look anyway. I may have an M% Stuart light tank. (I think I have)

  3. Two excellent figures, Clint. This Deep One is my favourite out of your group. I like the idea of attaching the vulture to a flying base. It looks like it is hovering over its prey.

    1. Thank you Bryan. The Vulture is clearly hovering over Matts troops and not my own. But very good for a wound marker I thought.

As for Deepones ah well they are Deepones. I feel a C'thulhu by Gaslight coming on!

  4. Wonderful Deep One, Clint, and a great idea for to have a vulture circling your opponent's forces as you game; that should inflict a mental wound upon them even if your dice roll poorly :-)

    1. Thank you Simon. For £3 the 2 vultures are an easy paint and do add a lot of character to the battlefield. I am also sure Matt will love it.

Alas I have no more Deepones to paint for a while (Until I buy more)

So It is Burpas for the rest of this week as Matt has already paid me and I have hardly started them.

BUT Japanese 15mm,s on Tuesday as the 3rd Platoon is now finished.

  5. What a great idea for a wound marker and one I'll be adopting for my own vultures that I recently painted. The deep one looks fab

    1. Thank you Andy. I can imagine a Bushido figure with a vulture attached as well. (Not as a wound marker just as an addition)

I think they would make very good wound markers for SOME games but less good for others. But It all depends on what Matt chooses to do.

As for Deepones they were always something I was partial to in roleplaying C'thulhu!

  6. The Deepone looks great Clint, can never have enough fauna, in gaming terms whether as scenery or as useful markers

    1. Thank you Dave. Some games revolve around Fauna (not many but a few... mostly Pre-historic) so I love all that kind of thing on the table top. It just seems to add to the game.

Depends on scale of course... 300th scale rabbits I see no need of!

    2. very true on the scale perspective

  7. Great pair of figures Clint, the Deep One will look ace with the others and the choice of base finish is very clever!
The paint job on the vulture LOOKS like a vulture, so it MUST be right - and the use of a 'flying' base is inspired thinking :-)

    1. Thank you Addict. If I had a spare dead body or dead livestock I would had had if flying up from that. But I had nothing suitable so a flying base was used. (For the right or wrong reason.)

As for the Deepone. I have a Mental note telling e to get more (and more and more and even more!)
I think someone is tampering with my brain.

  8. The Deepone and the Vulture both look great. The vulture pictures really stand out with that background. Very nice gift you tossed in there :)

    1. Thank you Rod. I really MUST get back to painting Burpas. You know how it is you do some of your own and are all reluctant to get back to someonelses!

    1. Thank you Ray. We all like the little extras in a game. And we both know Matt will like it all the more as he did not have to paint it! (No Offence if you read this Matt!)

  10. Not a pose I'd have thought suitAble for a deep one but it looks great and I'm sure you're not the first to use Disney as a reference source for the excellent vulture.

    1. Thank you Joe. It was not the Deepone I would have picked, but buying a mixed bag was cheaper than buying them individually. So In effect this one was free!

As for the Vulture there is a Birder at the club (But Native birds and not exotics) so as long as it looks right it will be close enough. I mean no offense meant to Matt (who will be the recipient) but as far as I know Matt has no interest in birds. So he should not make a fuss... of course he won't it is a free figure after all.
