Whatever next?

2 more figures done for Matt. No I do not know what they are or by whom they were produced. I am sure I could do an internet search and find they. But I am in a Lack-sid-asicle mood so I have not done so. Sorr just some days you just cannot be bothered. And Today is that day!

Again I think they are west wind 28mm figures but further details I have no idea. Maybe "Empire of the Dead" and then again maybe not.  Gee that was insightful.

Fun to paint for a change, but I will say no more about them.

Several things have been undercoated now.  As I ran out of spray undercoat yesterday and had to buy some first thing today. It has put me a little behind my own schedule but not drastically so.

No Idea what I will finish next. BUT if you have a strong preference I may work on that project a little swifter. here are the options:

  • Lord of the rings (1 figure started)
  • Aeronef (9 vessels now undercoated)
  • Giant worm. (1 of emerging from the ground)
  • BoB unit. A Squad of Russian Soldiers for the Back of Beyond game. * figures and started in haste last night as they had been undercoated in grey already.

Happy to listen to what you want next, but it will still be my choice as to what is finished first. Just depends on my mood and how much I am enjoying painting them.

Bye for now more again (assuming I have a speedy brush) on Saturday.

All the best Clint

Edawrd th Dancing Chimp. (28mm)

Ok the title is wrong. His name is not Edward, Nor is he dancing and more so he is not a chimp! But the "Scale is correct!" But as we all know 28mm is not a scale either. maybe I should start again!

The miniature s by West Wind (I know as It had that cast on the tab!) it is also part of the 28mm range.  More than this I cannot tell. Except to say that it is painted for Matt and he got it on eBay along with two others.

The figure is about twice as large as a normal 28mm figure and stands about 40mm. But being hunched if he were ever to stand up straight he would be twice the size. he is definitely more than 2 times the weight.

Overall the figure was a pleasure to paint but I have no idea what Matts purpose is in getting him. Seriously no idea, but I am sure all will be revealed in weeks to come.

That's it for today. Hope you are well and happy. all the best Clint

Painting table cleared!

As many of you will know tomorrow Is the start of the AHPC (Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge). This is my 3rd year. So I thought I should spend a few hours just finishing things that were on my painting table ready for the Challenge.

So before I even think about starting the challenge. Here are the last few figures. They are all Secrets of the Third Reich figures by West Wind Productions. Mostly they were started last week.

As you can see 2 Riflemen one with an AR44 the next with a carbine. Then and officer pointing, but he does carry a pistol. And on the right a MG team.  The Mg Team is supposed to have 3 men on the base, but I found that a little crowded so I have only 2. While they both have holstered pistols their main job is to crew the MG. I will admit to owning 2 more MG's so it is possible I will put 3 crew on the base in the future. But as I am happy with the 2 crew  I suspect I will keep it at 2.  But No promises as the future is a dim  and distant foggy land and anything could happen.

As you can clearly see I am continuing with the Oak leaf spring pattern as it is both fun to paint AND I like the look. And that is reason enough.

The only bad news is that I have just about run out of the LIGHT green and cannot see me getting a restock this year! So further SotTR will mainly be in Autumn and not spring.

As the AHPC will now start in less than a day (3 hours I think BUT I will check) I am pleased the painting table is now clear. I have figures prepped and ready and I see some painting starting today.

What I will start with will actually be a mixture. I NEED to do some 10mm Zulus so they will be started, I also have some WW1 Cavalry in 28mm but in addition I have a hankering for some western figures so that might also need to happen soon.

But Until it does, take care have fun and paint like crazy!

Wolf Runners

I can only (at this  stage) find 1 pack of wolf runners.  But I think I have 2 more hidden away so there may well be more to come in a week or maybe 2. But I am very likely with Christmas approaching to get side tracked onto another project). But here with very poor lighting are 2 Wolf Runners for SotTR.Both are SMG armed along with knives grenades and yes even fangs. I have used both "Oak Leaf" spring and autumn camouflage simply because my force is about equally split between the two patterns. Although the "orange" has not really come out very well this time, but I cannot see me repainting it.

Each figure comes in 3 parts, head, body and right arm, so a fair amount of variation is possible but not all that likely. But they are at the very least 2 more figures I will not need to paint again all that quickly. Which is not to say I do not like them but that I eel they could be better.

That is it for today. I can see one base that needs to be re-painted (don't all look for it!) and then a quick varnish and then I have some rules to read.

So until next time, take care, have fun and  Paint if you are in the mood.

All the best from Kent!

Snipers finished. (after a few years in the painting queue!

yes a bonus post. This one was 2 West Wind Production Secrets of the third Reich German snipers. (Inspired by Simon at fantorical. Who painted a few a day or so ago and re-kindled my interest in a stalled project).

The figures are 28mm in size and help to increase my German force. The Camouflage was great fun to paint and is supposed to be OAK LEAF SPRING, and before anyone gets far too picky for their own good yes I know the dots should be smaller and more numerous. But they were about as good as I can do and probably better than most would have done!

I could not stop the flash on the camera so I apologise for the shadows, but other than that I think they have turned out quite nice If I do say so myself. Painting these has gotten me in the mood for painting a few more so you never know there may be more to come this week and maybe next. They were part painted when I saw Simons post so I was able to finish them in 1/2 a day, I am usually NOT that fast.

I KNOW I still have a few more blisters unopened. 1 should be a heavy machinegun and crew, I did order this online and the company kept sending me the wrong things as they had been mislabelled at the "Factory" so I kept complaining and even sending them back. In the end though they allowed me to keep the wrong figures AND did send me the right ones as well all because they were labelled wrong.

Anyway have a good weekend and get the paint brushes wet and the figures painted.

All the Best Clint on a very sunny Sunday Morning!

Dead Girls Are Easy!

As the painting challenge draws to an end I am trying (and failing for the most part) to get back to blogging on a regular basis.

Having now finish all the things I wanted to get done for the challenge I had a bit of spare time and enthusiasm. And while this was submitted it was never planned to be.

It is of course a West Wind Production Biker. I bought a pack of these a few years back but never  got them painted. As I am re-enthused about zombie games I thought to get one done.

I was going to write "Dead girls are Easy!" on the petrol tank, but instead settled for green flames. It was semi successful and a second attempt will no doubt prove a better finish so that is my plan, but with 8-10 Bikers to do they can not all have flames on the bikes, that would just look silly!

Still with luck this will get me back in the saddle again.

Club on Sunday so an AAR on Monday of whatever game I play! And at this stage it could be anything. I have suggested a Vietnam game but that is NOT looking likely at present!

Cheers for looking, more soon.

Anti-hero Lucifer.

Well the "Entrance Fee" for this years catalogue painting challenge is to paint base and send Curt an "Anti-hero". For doing this Curt will make a small dotation to a charity. So in a way we all come out of it as winners.

But I was struggling to come up with an idea for an anti-hero. I finally looked it up on google and they have a list of fictional anti-heroes. So I picked one I thought I would like to do. And inspired by one of my favourite artists (Gustav Dore) I selected Lucifer from Milton's Paradise Lost.

In the poem Paradise lost Lucifer is a charismatic, sophisticated erudite individual. Who believes that God has favoured mankind over Angel-kind. And as a result leads the angels into rebellion against God.

It was first published in 1667 and follows two story archs, one about Lucifer, the light bearer, and one concerning Adam and Eve.

The figure is part of the "Lucifer's War" range of figures by West Wind Productions. To be honest it is supposed to be Gabriel but I thought it was a better figure than the supposed "Lucifer". I went for the typical black and red as I wanted the figure to be more menacing. If I had settled on white DOVE wings and not CROW wings the figure would look more Angelic in our contemporary view. Likewise If I had selected a blue palette for the clothes that would also look "wrong". So the colour choices were pretty much given to me by our current understanding of who and what devils and angels are.

As a 28mm figure this was a great deal of fun to paint. As mentioned above the colour choices were pretty much preselected so I started with a white undercoat. This was to allow the Red to stand out and not look dull. It did mean that I would have to paint a lot of BLACK though. The wings were painted 3 times with black ink over the white primer in an attempt to get into all the details of the feathers and yet leave the top edges slightly clear of colour. I did not quite work, but It did come close enough.

Other then the cloak the hair and the wings nearly everything else was metallic. So I used both gold and silver to offer some variation. I usually have problems painting gold but have found "ARMY PAINTER" to do an acceptable version of the colour I wanted. I did a top highlight after all other painting was finished with WH SMITHS poster paint gold as it is brighter and sharper. The problem with poster is if it gets wet again it is likely to run into any recesses. But as I was to top coat it all with thin coats of spray varnish I was happy (ok nervous) to risk it. For the silver I started with "Boltgun Metal" and added layers of Mithril Silver mixed in larger and larger amounts with the afore mentioned Boltgun metal and Highlighted with the silver again at the last.. Which is my normal way of doing steel.

The model came on it's own octagonal slotta base. But the pose it was very leaning forward and standing on a pebble. So I got rid of the pebble with some snippers and went into the garden and selected a flint of about the right size and dimensions. The flint was a food fit so I added cork chips around the base and painted the whole lot a random muddy brown. Added white to the mix and dry brushed to make the rocks look weathered. The figure fit the flit with no work at all, sometime I just get lucky so I superglued and green stuffed it in place and to hold it strong. And the jobs a goodun!

And below is Gustav Dore's Illustration of Lucifer from Paradise Lost. he looks far more thoughtful than the miniature which goes to show his many and complex sides.

That's all folks. Thanks for looking and take care. I hope to see you visit again soon. All the best Clint.
