The Zone Russians (Part 2)

Well not the largest amount painted, but here are the second squad of my Russian cold war Platoon. a few posts ago I was able to show the first squad, and this is the second squad. Similar issues with the figures and similar weapons as well. There is a slight difference in the weapons though as I am painting what was purchased in a single pack of Battle Front Team Yankee Russian Rifle platoon.

Because Team Yankee is based around BMP platoons and not BTR platoons there is 2 PKM in this squad and most likely the next as well.  So I may have to buy BMP -1 or BMP -2's as opposed to BTRs. This may not be a big issue at all as I have yet to settle on the transport that I would choose to start with. You Know me I will eventually get everything! (Well not everything but sufficient Variety to represent different vehicles in different regiments. I do know what I am intending for the opposing forces so I must try and get the forces to balance.

Anyway another picture of the Russian Uniforms that I have tried to replicate and like the first squad  I am happy with the outcome.

I am now cleaning up the third squad and will begin painting that soon. So expect the third squad and platoon command next week. I will try to get some 28mm VBCW figures done as well, IF I can tear myself away from "Minecraft!"

All the best Cheers Clint

    1. Thank you Michael. While the sculpts are nice the casting is not the best so they do take some cleaning up.

And I am still working out what vehicles to use. It all takes time and I do get sidetracked very ease!

    1. Cheers Chris. As mentioned above the squad composition was wrong (to many LMGs and RPGs and not a single sniper which makes the platoon WRONG!) However I can and will over come that as a problem but I will need to order some figures probably from QRF Miniatures.

    2. Have you looked at Eureka?

    3. Thanks Chris, I have looked at Eureka, Flytrap Khurisan, QRF, Peter Pig, Battlefront (Obviously as that is where these come from)and there was one more but I forget there name at present!

But I have never had much of a problem with QRF figures (Vehicles are a bit rough though) and I think I will be sending for some QRF soon-ish so that will save shipping from abroad. Afterall no one wants to make the post office wealthy.

Over all these are nice figures badly cast. and As I want a slightly different unit composition they did offer the best solution for a platoon without having 1/2 a dozen packs of odds left over.

Overall I am happy with them and will make these work, but it is hard to be completely satisfied, but I am 80-90% Satisfied.

      So no big issues.

  3. Thank you Tamsin, as I have now prepped the last squad I realise that there is no sniper. Each soviet platoon has a designated sniper (but no figure with a sniper rifle and too many with RPGs and Light machine guns so I will have to source one from another company! OH well!)

  4. Well done Clint. Good luck finding the figures with the correct arms and poses.

    1. Thanks Peter. I only really need a sniper and it is mostly because many players LOVE to control a sniper, and many rules sets do make them very dangerous (and rightly so due to the extra training). It will all come together very quickly in the end I am sure.

    1. Cheers Fran, they are getting there. I hope to get some M113s at the Broadside show... But will probably have to wait a little longer.

    1. Thank you Simon, I was once told that the smaller the figure the more important the base!

(I did them very slightly different than my normal bases but you would need to see 2 side by side to spot the difference!)

  7. Good to see this project is moving along, Clint. You're certainly tempting me with "Team Yankee"; which probably isn't your intention. but you;re doing it anyway :-)

    1. Thank you Simon. I will be using "Force on Force" as a set of Rules. As I only want platoon level actions Team Yankee would be better for company level actions I think.
