3rd Platoon

These are 15mm Battlefront ww2 Japanese. Painted and based or 3omm squares for PBI the ww2 company level game by Peter Pig. ( http://www.peterpig.co.uk/ ). It was cheaper to buy a Battlefront company pack than to try to buy individual packs from any other source. Trust me It is something I looked at! So getting a deal at a show (Cavalier) in February I have slowly completed the company.

The wounded markers are Peter Pig and while no one wants dead/wounded markers for their own troops they are vital for the game.

leaders have a 10mm strip at the rear of the stand to clearly Identify them (and name them if you choose). As yet I have not named them and am not sure I will.

The reeds are bristles from a Wilkinson's Wall paper brush. which I bought a few years back for the pricely sum of 99p and as it has just about been used up I fear I will need to buy another and I suspect the price will have changed.

I have shown the WHOLE company as I know several of you like to see complete "armies" all in one place. Ahh but is it complete? That answer is NO of course not, there are still things to add to round out all the options.

Lurking in the background are a few more additions. But for today I am only looking at the 3rd Platoon. It is comprised as follows.

  • Platoon Commander
  • 2 "Knee" Mortars
  • 2 LMG stands
  • 6 Rifle Stands
Much like previous platoons. This was the most efficient use of the figures and I was able to get the Whole Company out of one box with no extras. I cannot guarantee that every one will be able to, but it did work for me in this instance. And Yes I did manage a few more stands than those shown... just one or three and they are currently in Paint!

I still have a few things waiting in the wings to get painted but I have at least reached a critical mass with which to face my US troops at a Pacific Island  from now on.

Still waiting to be completed.

That is it for today. Have fun and get busy with the painting. All the best Clint

    1. Thank you Michael. Praise indeed. Always more to do of course. I really need to get the Japanese armour painted.... and maybe some 70mm Infantry guns and some... the list goes on and on and on!

    1. Thank you Roy. As a youngster I was fascinated by tanks. And as the Pacific war was not really tank "heavy" I have never really played it at all much. So I thought it time I rectified that!

And there will be more to come. As you can see.

    2. My Ardennes Offensive Germans won't have many tanks, either. But that's mainly as those late war tanks cost such a high points cost in Blitzkrieg Commander. Still, if I'm going to have tanks why not have a couple of Tiger IIs. Its not often you get to field such heavy tanks - they won't be driving anywhere fast though! (15cm a move)

    3. Thanks Roy. I think I have an M% Stuart you can have..... Ammerican I know, but the rest is REALY early war.

Ahh BKC got the rules, but never played... If I did it would be Western Desert though and Probly 6mm. Just SO much cheaper. I will have to check and see what Stu has!

    4. I'm collecting both American and German for this project, so if you did send up the Stuart I'd gladly accept it and find a use for it.

BKC allows easy solo play with how the rules are written - the use of needing to roll under a command score to issue orders, each successive order each turn giving a +1 dice modifier to the result - they can also be easily adapted to use with C.S. Grant's programmed wargames scenarios (solo play scenarios, basically), that's why I use them instead of other sets. I've seen the PBI videos that Peter Pig have on Youtube and I wouldn't mind giving them a go against someone.

Is there many manufacturers in 6mm? I know Baccus6mm are just starting to make some. Irregular Miniatures have a range. GHQ have a comprehensive range, and sold through Magister Militum. There's Scotia Grendal, as well. Hah, I've just answered my own question. I'll have to have a look at what is available in 6mm

    5. Thanks Roy. One of the MAIN 6mm Manufactures is HEROICS AND ROS>

They were bought out by a new guy about 2 years ago and he is Eager to make it a success. So worth a look I should think. GHQ are the best quality BUT also cost the MOST by a long way.

Adler Miniature also do the Infantry and they can be quite good. (Better and Irregular by far and Heroics and Ros by a bit!) So worth a look if You want SMALL figures

I will send a Stuart (Via) Stu. He should be OK with that especially if I buy a load of stuff from him... well not too much.

But seriously have a look at Heroics and Ros. Not as good as GHQ but about 40p a tank. So quite affordable I think.

If I get the newer PBI rules I will send my BATTERED old version as well.

    6. I'd forgotten about H&R. I wouldn't mind, I've done adverts for Stu for his 2nd hand stuff. And I've 100s of Adler Naps, so I knew about the chap's WW2 as well. So many companies you forget who makes what.
I've got your email, and I'll look at it now. Thanks

    7. For what it is worth I would not have remembered Scotia!

  3. Always good to see you working on your own stuff. It's surprised me how quickly you've got this Japanese force together and they do look good!
As for paste brushes, Poundworldbargain buys have them in at a sightly increased price (I blame Brexit).

    1. Thanks Joe I think I have enough bristles for at least 3 more months! Actually I found paining these remarkably quick. I am sure I could have painted faster as well. But some Japanese Armour for myself next I think..... well maybe!

    1. Thank you Andy. Yes the Tablecloth is about the only place big enough for the force! But I am now back on 28mm Sudan for Matt. Despite the STRONG desire to get more of these done... but no more infantry I now have enough by some way.

  5. A very smart looking company. As I have said to you before, I do admire your ability to paint such small figures so well. That is not something I would relish doing.

    1. Thank you Bryan. Being short sighted and having to wear glasses all my life does have some benefits!!! Personally I find small scales far easier than large ones. No need to blend colours... just a base colour a wash and then pick out any detail. Easy peasy! But each to their own.

    1. Thank you Dave. I now have enough for a game, but not many options and precious little Anti tank. But I will get more options and not all allied tanks were "modern" for the period. The Grant/Lee was used long after it was obsolete in Europe. (For example).

    1. Thank you Addict. I have been asked for a game this weekend. But I have declined due to another game all ready accepted.

But at this rate it will not be very long at all.
