Not Going to Salute LOOT

As most will know I did not attend Salute this year! I do not regret it. I am sure it was great and many interesting things were there. But it just costs too much to go every year. So here is what I spent the money on instead.... and it s still cheaper than the entrance and travel costs.
  • What the Tanker , a new set of rules to try and having watched a few vids on toy-tube it does look like my cuppa!
  • Zvezda t-26 in 1/100th scale, (not quite 15mm but close enough) More of this later
  • Warpaint "Monster Brown"
  • 3 Lucid Eye figures. Yes the pack had the wrong price on it so I nabbed it quick.
  • 2 Brushes
Total spend less than £44 so for me a cheaper option. Whine over!

lets start with the brushes. these are just to replace ones that have been worn out! they really were the reason I went shopping! The paint is brown paint as I always use it in a variety of shades, almost every day! The Lucid eye Figures well as they should be £7:50 and I got them for £4:50 I won't say too much more.

In What a tanker a T-26 is the starting tank for the Russians. Therefore I imagine it will see early are action either by me or by a friend. I will be going for the Russian Northern front in WW2 as this seems to give the greatest variety. Russians with some lend lease from Britain and America as well as Germans (with Finish allies, Italian Allies, Hungarian Allies and Romanian allies (yes there was also the Spanish Blue legion as well but they were without tanks). So More variety of tanks than any other front. yes the Germans did use some captured French equipment as well) but no Japanese tanks were used in Russia in ww2 (China yes, Russia nope! Unless of course you know better)

So that is todays up date more on Sunday when I get some painting done!

  1. A nice little selection of items. I bought What-a-Tanker at Salute but I still haven't had a chance to read it yet! I'm still decorating the house as a penance for spending three months in the midst of the Painting Challenge. I guess I shouldn't complain, but....

  2. I have mixed feelings about not going to Salute. On the one hand, I would like to go just once to see what it's like but on the other hand, I'm in agreement with you and thinking of all the money I'm saving by not going. Glad to see you found something better to spend your money on.

    1. Thank you Bryan. I would go once every 3-4 years but no more it just cost too much. If I lived way up north (like you) I would go once just to see what it was like. If you decide to go let me know as it would be a pleasure to meet you.

Out of all the loot I suspect the Lucid eye figures would suit you best.

  3. If you're not attending Salut (or any other show for that matter), what better way to celbrate than to treat yourself with the cash you saved by not going!
Great post Clint, and jealousof the price you managed on the lucid eye guys, no matter what they are!

    1. Thank you Joe. The Lucid Eye figures are Amazons so I know I will use them for something. One base is missing but as I put them on different bases anyway it is not a loss to me. I would have liked more T-26 tanks using them first in "What a tanker" but with a view to Spanish Civil war.... well maybe!

    1. Thanks Dave. The way I look at it "I am ahead" as I would have spent FAR more at Salute with the entrance and travel on top of the spends!

    1. Thanks Ray I did need the brushes and the paint. I think rules wise they would make a good Reject game. needless to say it is quite a bit later in history than you really enjoy though.

  6. Great posting Clint, full of common sense purchasing, and a nice 'discount' on the "Lucid Eye" stuff. Looking forward to seeing them get painted up. Fingers crossed though that at some point you do decide to return to "Salute" so I can say hello in person :-)

    1. Thank you Blax. I am sure I shall return to Salute in the future, just not yet. Much now to get painted and on the table but 28mm Crimea war next (hopefully tomorrow)

  7. I know quite a few people and traders who do not attend Salute now. Cost and the discomfort of the day being primary reasons.

    1. Thank you Simon. I can only echo those comments. Worth going every 3-5 years but not more than that

    1. Thanks Dave . My biggest ever Salute regret is that when we did meet at Salute a few years ago I was not aware of exactly who you were until afterwards so I strongly apologise for being "spaced out" and not greeting you properly.

  9. Awesome Clint. Its the only thing that limits me going is the travel costs. I shall probably be doing a not salute loot post as well when it arrives :)
