Some of you will know I am planning a Western Zombie Game for the club on Sunday, the rest of you have just found out! That being the case I thought I should start painting a few more zombies. Most zombies in the game will be my "normal" horde zombies but I thought to add a few more zombies toting weapons and dressed in period clothes. They will of course function slightly differently in the game. The top two pictures are freshly painted "Foundry" castings and the Third picture has two zombies which have been shown before, just included for completeness.
7 figures to a pack armed and dressed with a variety of weapons and clothing. Quite obviously they can be used for any Victorian era setting but are most suitable as wild/weird West figures because one of them is wearing chaps. 5 are pistol armed including a couple of heavy pistols. 1 has a rifle and the other a double barrelled shotgun. They all look suitably zombie like in both pose and facial grimace. While Foundry only do 1 pack different colours on the clothing should or the skin tone should allow for enough variety especially if the figures in the same poses are on different parts of the Table.
I hope to get the opportunity either today or tomorrow to give the rules I shall be using for the game on my dedicated zombie blog (28 Dice Later ). I do not update it very often and am not looking for followers or page views as it is mostly for club and ZBA interaction.
I shall do another post on this blog on Saturday. Until then take care enjoy a quiet few days and with luck talk soon. All the best Clint.
Very Deadwood, do you see what I did there!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFair enough then but nice dead work Clint old boy!
The names "Deadwood" and "Tombstone" did feature in my thinking for this idea but they were rejected. I won't say what the main towns name is just yet as the players do not know and it would be unfair to say too much.
DeleteThanks Fran, now to start the next batch!
Have you played Red Dead Redemption- Undead Nightmare for inspiration ? - (A computer game) - it's very good . I think the banner on your zombie blog is from that game.
ReplyDeleteYour zombie westerners do look good (except for their over-sized pistols !)
Firstly yes some of the pistols are very large, it's the sculpts.
DeleteSecondly I have not played that x-box game as I do not have an x box, And I can't find Red Dead Redemption on any other platform. Which is a shame.
As for the banner on my other blog well spotted it is from the game you suggest. But It just seemed right until I could get a better one! (If I ever do!)
I love those, they're full of character! Wild west is still not appealing to me (give me some time!), but those are fantastic. Quite frankly, I like the oversized pistols, they suit those ridiculous faces! :D
ReplyDeleteIn that case get me the biggest pistol you can. Thank you Mathyoo. I understand that Wild West is not to everyones taste, and wild west zombies surely has an even narrower field.
DeleteThe hatted zombie with its pistol in the air in the last picture is absolutely cracking. The facial features are just brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThat one is from Reaper Miniatures I did show it earlier this year on this blog. Just included those 2 for completeness. But Thank you Carl they fit in with the growing horde! (It has grown a little larger today!)
DeleteHmm - it shouldn't be hard to draw faster than a zombie, right?! Or to shoot straighter. So what makes them a threat in a world where many people are armed :-) ?
ReplyDeleteI do see your point and agree they will not be very good at gun play. So if it comes to a shoot out yes the characters will surely win every time. However zombies in most film/game settings are attracted to an area by noise if both side are making noise there should be a greater chance of attracting more zombies into the area. I won't go into details but there are other side effects as well. But mostly because they are a bit of fun and that's why I am doing this.
DeleteWild West Zombies! Awesome. We need a bat rep.
ReplyDeleteShould be a bat rep/aar early next week. Monday or Wednesday. The horde has grown a little more today as well.
DeleteSecond Lead Legion's comments. Brings a whole new concept to the famous cowboy quote, "I'm looking for the man what shot my pa."
ReplyDeleteWould it become,"I've come back and I'm looking the man what shot erm ME!"
"Ged off ya horse and eat ya Brainz!" Which does ask the question, can zombies speak in this setting.....i'll tell you later!
DeletePlanned game on Sunday so expect a report shortly after. Let's hope it lives up to the hype!
The whole concept of Weird West sounds like a great lot of fun. I do think Zombies of that period should have the proper clothing. Do people play this with zombies in modern garb? If not how is this explained? By time travelling zombies?
ReplyDeleteI do not know anyone else actually playing this. The fact that they do make miniatures for it implies that I am not alone, but as yet I have seen no one else trying this.
DeleteI will be using my modern horde zombies for the most part. Only for convenience as I have no period zombie females or very much choice in terms of variety. So as I will need at times 50+ zombies on the table I will resort to using what I have and not being too picky with regard to clothing of the period. These Zombies carrying guns will in effect become special ability zombies with a few in game abilities like as mentioned above the ability to make some extra noise to attract more zombies as well as a very slim chance of a ranged attack!.
Great job Clint. looking forward to an AAR next week :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon.
DeleteI hope the zombies can't use the weapons, or at the very least aim them.
ReplyDeleteI am changing the rules for zombies. The ones with guns will have some slight cognitive ability so will be able to fire but be very poor shots. They will not be able to reload within a game though!
DeleteNice work Clint, just wish I could have made it down on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ray. While you would be welcome it is better to start small and with the people you know so you can iron out any rule issues first. Trust me there will be some as I am re-writing a rules set for this.
