Well the title says it all. Tomorrow I will start to process turn 2 of the Klintanistan game. So I wanted something quick and easy and to be honest something I did not really care too much about to paint. So here is a Battletech Zeus model.
It is cast in a really unfriendly plastic to cut and paint and is not even one of my favourite Battletech mechs. But despite my dislike it is not a bad battletech mech. It does have a variety of weapon systems long Range Missiles, and Autocannon (5) for long distance shooting Large and 2 medium lasers for short ranges and medium ranges and sufficient armour to withstand many if not all return fire. I think my main criticism is that for an assault mech it just does not have a knockout punch in any weapon system which does give it a rather ambiguous role in a mech lance. At 80 tons it has average speed and manouver nothing too slow and nothing to fast. To me it seems like a mech that has no firm purpose but tries to do several roles. As such it does all the roles in a half hearted manner.
Just my opinion of the mech and I do know when played well it can be effective, But if you are going to have an assault mech you want a brawling mech and not a multi role mech. Well that is how it has always played in my games.
Not a very exciting post today. But I am trying to clear the work bench as I have several things started and nothing much near compleation.
Currently on the table is a piece of terrain that I hope will come out good enough to cast in resin and that is taking it's time. 10 Burpa Cavalry, Some 20mm Russian civil war figures, and a few 15mm Sci Fi figures that I bought at the Selwg show and a single Sikh in 28mm . So lots of things started and nothing finished except this mech for now. But with luck next week there should be a few interesting things finished.
Before I go Roy has been publicising the Klintanistan game. Click this link to find out just a little more. LINK ... This was put on By Stu at Col Bills I am told and that is not actually the Klintanistan flag officially. But I am happy for it to be labelled as such and you are welcome to make your own flags up for Klintanistan given it's fractured state.
That is it for today. Thanks for looking. All the best Clint
Thinking of getting back into sci-fi in a small way.Hail Franonia!
ReplyDeleteThank you Fran. Now that you are free and unfettered of the oppressive yoke of Ray and his historical obsession. I welcome you back to the light-side.
DeleteDon't do it Fran!!!
DeleteThank you Ray. You still have influence over Fran, but how much?
DeleteYou need to look at GZG's 15mm Moongrunt range matey!
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul. Only so many projects I can handle at a time and I am on about my limit. But I will show some Stargrunt 15mm next week.
DeleteFor a Mech you are not particularly fond of I rather like how you have painted this Zeus. I have to admit that when I played Battletech, I was not a big fan of the Zeus either.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bryan. I suspect the zeus is a marmite mech in that you either love it or hate it.
Deletehaving never played Battletech I'm intrigued even if you're a bit meh! about the zeus.
ReplyDeletedid you get my turn 2 orders Clint?
Thank you Gobo. There are so many better mechs out there in a similar or even smaller class. I like the AWESOME slow cumbersome but as good armour and weapons that hit harder or the MARAUDER but that has heating issues. (The Pilot does not get cold the engine overheats) But it really is a good game for us oldies and it does have a huge variety of choices.
DeleteYes I have some orders from you. Email sent to confirm.
Nice job dude. It does sound rather a grand game. When you read into the mech descriptions etc. I must resist!!
ReplyDeleteThank you brummie. Battle tech is still a good game even after 25 years. But other games have progressed and it would no longer be a stand out game anymore... except for us die hards.
DeleteIts a really effective photograph, I know that!
ReplyDeleteNever played, and know nothing about Battle Mech, but using multi-role mech's sounds like something I'd probably feature in my force. I've never been one to commit to just one 'knock-out' tactic, so a mech that can sit on the fence would probably be one of my choices.
Thank you Roy. While there is little wrong with multirole mechs I have played as a pair of Spider Mechs (2 @35 tons = 70 tons) and ripped a Zeus a new one. because it can fill so many roles it is difficult to know your place in a lance as you are neither long range or short range. In WW2 terms the Zeus is a tiger tank BUT with only a 50mm gun
DeleteI really like your Battle Mech stuff Clint, and this one is no exception. You clearly know your lore too. Great stuff imho.
ReplyDeleteThank you Blax. I will admit to being a Battletech player many years ago and did learn a lot by playing it. Mostly about the game and the mechs involved. But how I would fair now against different mechs is a very different story I suspect.
DeleteAlso I an not a clan fan as I think they are overpowered so anyone who is would beat me easily, no make that very easily. But early mechs I am OK on.
Seems strnage that an 'Assault Mech' is so underwhelmngly armed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe. It is not the only under armed assault mech. I do have a "Grasshopper" mech to paint sometime and that is even worse. Also remember the term Assault mech has more to do with the weight than the mechs function/role.
DeleteNot something that I am overly familiar with, but it look rather impressive to me Clint.
ReplyDeleteThank you Michael. being honest I thought it looked Tatty at best. This was probably due as much to my dislike of the mech as the plastic and the sculpting. Which while the plastic and the sculpting were not very good I feel I could have made a better job in finishing it.
DeleteStill never mind.
