Swapsies

Well Sunday morning and while not painting I have been active. To the right you will see my new (second hand) NSL fleet for Full thrust. Most of the fleet is un labelled so I'll have to do a little research and find out exactly what I have got. One thing is for sure It's much bigger than my FSE fleet. (Maybe I should look at buying some more bits and pieces for the FSE). As you can see the majority of it is stuck (superglued) together and there is a lack of flying bases. These are not things I will worry about too much this week, I am just happy to have gotten it. Also included are 2 boxes of 20mm T34 85's from  Armourfast these may become the start of my Arab Israeli Wars force. I am holding off on starting the Arab Israeli game until Kurt's Painting Challenge starts again ( http://analogue-hobbies.blogspot.co.uk/ ).

All the above was swapped with another blogger (Alan Abbey http://leofwinewargamerson.blogspot.co.uk/) . I am sure we both think we got the better of the deal, or at least I hope he does, as I am very happy.

That's it for today. Thanks for tuning in and hope to see you again on Tuesday for the next blog post.

Until then take care and stay safe. Best wishes Clint

More Thrust.....Islamic Federation

A couple of months ago I painted my FSE (Federal States Europa) Full thrust intro fleet. At the time I could not find my second intro fleet. Well as you can see it has now turned up and managed to stay still long enough for me to paint it. Some of the smaller ships were already painted, but the larger ships being multi part had simply flown away. However here they all are, all in one place and all painted. I wanted to offer a strong contrast to the other fleet which is mostly cream in colour, so I have painted these a rich regal blue as the main colour. Given that all the ships have crescent shaped wings I felt s most appropriate to paint the wings several shades of gold. Against the blue the wings really jump out. Which was the effect I wanted. Each ship also has a light yellow accent stripe about a quarter of the way from the front. This was done purely to make them look more interesting and to break the blue up along the hull. Overall I think the colours work and contrast strongly with the FSE which is something I wanted. Having enjoyed painting both intro fleets I am almost tempted to get another two or expand these two at a later date.

That's today's post. I shall finish some more painting today so the next post will be on Sunday. I do plan to run a 7ombie game at the club NEXT weekend and will need to make a little scenery for that. next week. Nothing too complicated as I am waiting for my neighbour (a builder) to drop off a bag or two of off cuts from a garage he is building locally. Which will keep costs down for that and a few other projects.

All the best folks, Thanks for reading and I'll post again on Sunday (Assuming I get what I have started finished!!!)

More Thrust.

Firstly As I was not happy with yesterdays blog I have decided to do one today as well.  These are the start of my Second Full Thrust fleet. This time the Islamic Federation. These are only the small ships of the intro fleet, I have put the larger (cruisers) somewhere safe. I will start painting theose when I find them again. But for now these should act as a sample of colours and markings. As shown I have gone for a rich blue as my main colour, contrasting that I have a lemon stripe on each vessel. As all the ships have cresent shaped wings I thought to emphasis these by painting them a copper colour higlighted with gold and washed with "flesh wash" all to signify a more 3D look to the figures.  Once they are all fininsh (once I find them again) I will photograph the whole fleet together as I did the FSE fleet. I shall also offer a photo of both fleets together.

Now lets go back to the poll for a little. In my mind (and only there) I have settled on a Zombie game. Let me start by saying I am not totally happy with any of the Zombie rules I have found so far. They all have something to offer, but they also all lack one or more elements I would like. As such I think I might have a go at writing my own. I don't want to start adding house rules to an existing system, I feel a completely fresh start is in order. If you don't hear any more about this assume I have given up, and common sense has taken over.

Meanwhile back at the Zombie terrain ideas, here are a few I have thought of (in no logical order):
  • High School
  • Petrol Station.
  • Hospital.
  • Laboratory / Research Facility.
  • Shopping Mall
  • Underground / tube station.
  • Warehouse/Factory
  • Docks/Port.
  • Fair Ground / Ammusement park.
  • Peir.
  • Airport.
  • Railway Station / Rail Yard.
  • Sewer.
  • Appartment Block.
  • Church and graveyard.
  • Powerstation.
  • Army Baracks
  • Motorway Service Station / Truck stop.
  • Typical Urban Street / City block.
  • Suburban area.
  • Zoo.
I want to keep it accessable to most people, so I have taken out, space Station, moonbase, submarine, ship and those sort of things brcause the terrain migh be too tight for a flowing game.

I hope there is something there for you to mull over. I already feel Happier with this post than the previous one. I'll post again Tomorrow, so take care til than and happy Blogging. All the Best Clint

FSE Full Thrust

 FSE Full Thrust.

FSE Starter Fleet
Must be 18months ago that I bought two starter fleets of Full Thrust ships. At the time if I remember correctly it was £25 for them both now, having checked the web site (http://shop.groundzerogames.net/) it seems that the price has risen to £18 each. Just looking at one intro fleet, this one being the FSE (Federal States Europa,). INTRO FLEET pack contains: 1 x BATTLECRUISER (BC), 1 x HEAVY CRUISER (CH), 2 x LIGHT CRUISERS (CL), 2 x DESTROYERS (DD) and 2 x FRIGATES (FF). They are nice sculpts with each faction having a distinct look which makes national identity in the game easy to fix.

Battle Cruiser, Heavy Crusier and Frigate.
I must admit I did struggle with painting these. Not the actual painting but the colours. My first thoughts were to paint them a wine red but is just did not look right. Maybe on another fleet it would work well, but for these it looked dull and uninspiring. Once cream, I prefer "champagne", they were still lacking something so a quick Flesh wash brought out the detail and then a blue stripe really did lift them and unite them. Overall I am happy with the colours now but I always find it hard to paint things which don,t have a face.

Frigates, Destroyers and light Cruisers.

The Frigates do look small when next to the larger ships but when clustered with the other small ships seem to fit in quite nicely. The only assembly was one join on the Battle Cruiser which is held in place with both green stuff and superglue. So no complaints about assembly at all. Having got this far I have enjoyed them. It has made a pleasant change in my painting and I would be willing to get more space ships. Graham at the club also has a couple of small fleets (NAC and ESU I think) so a game might be in order soon.
As a club we do like Stargrunt Sci-Fi rules so I hope this might also be something we could get into as it has a shared background. Not that there is a huge amount of background material, but there is enough to hang some games on. With Stargrunt several players have factions and seem happy not to encroach on anyone elses. This is great in one way, as it adds variety, the down side is that it can be fragmented, as we all like to use our own forces.

That's today's post. Thanks for reading I'll blog again on Tuesday. All the best Clint
