Autumn Skirmish from my bit of heaven!

Yesterday I was at a small and local show. So I shall do a show report later, but first the loot. Not the biggest haul I grant you and Only 1 "Impulse Buy" . I say Impulse buy as it was pre-ordered but following the show I am not sure it is needed. Oh well I am sure It shall find a home in a project at sometime.
Here's what I got.
  • Spray Varnish. I had nearly run out so as easy to stock up at the show as to get anywhere else.
  • 4 Pots of Paint. All replacement colours except the Purple. Ony the 2nd Purple I have bought in my life and the first one (an old GW one) dried up in the hot weather.
  • 50mmx50mm mdf Bases. Yes I do need these and not for cavalry as has been suggested. Ray dis ask and I said I need them for Medic stands. (See later in the week)
  • And a Victorian Photographer. (This now turn out to be an impulse buy as I scrap some plans and move forward with others.

Things arising: Well this is out of Order. But following the show I was relieved to be left with a feeling of wargaming Brotherly love. But also some disappointment. I did have plans for games at shows next year but they have been quashed. However I do have New ideas. Victorian Photographer is no longer needed, but back to the 6mm scale which I love!

The games:

Medway wargames Society
Dave and Paul
Playing a 28mm Fantasy game

15mm Dragon Rampant.
This is my kind of game.
Would have quite happily swapped.
"The Old Guard"

Another game I would quite like to be involved in.
28mm Crusades "Soldiers of God "Rules
I forgot the club name

A Roman Skirmish game
Sorry I forget the rules and the club.
28mm if that helps at all.
(Think Broken Legions but not sure)

Maidstone Wargames Club
28mm WW1
Much more Info on "Whisperin Al's Blog"
I say this without checking as he was one of the players.

28mm Skirmish wargames Club.
North Africa 1918 French Foreign Legion against Berbers
Using their own rules.

"Privateers of London club
For once NOT doing a naval game which they tend to.
20mm, Unknown rules.

Milton Hundreds Club
(You meet in Sittingbourne so why you do not call yourself the
Sittingbourne Wargames Club, I do not know)
15mm Team Yankee Rules.

Herne Bay/Whistable club.
20mm WW2 Using Rules of Engagement (I think)
Larry and Dave
2 nicer wargamers it is hard to meet.

Gravesend (I think) put on a couple of games
Blood bowl or the right
and "0mm Rapid Fire (I think) on the left.

Our club Game. Yes it was 28mm Napolionic (A period I dislike because of the way others feel it is both important to get the details right (You cannot use that figure as it has the wrong colour buttons, they were Brass and not bronze!). You get the idea!

28mm Black Powder rules French vs Prussian
My start area
Peter and Alex opposite me
Graham on the right

Bob and later Gary were also playing French.
All tarrain and Troops were supplied by Tim

I got of to a good start and all my units could move in my first turn.
And then the Dice gods failed me!
I had about 3 turns in a row of doing nothing!
See Positions exactly the  same for me.
Luckily  Peter opposite was also luck with the dice.
And while he was at times able to shoot the Majority
of his Landwere did about as much as my French
Which is to say NOTHING!
Finally able to move my Hussars they charged the Skirmishers.
Which held!
Not sure that would have been a real life outcome but the dice gods hate me at times.
Nothing else to say.
Overall this is about as far as I got with the game. partially as the show was winding down and partially because I lost interest.

Napolionics... Hmm I would rather play tiddly winks.

Thanks for looking More in 2 days as I work on some terrain and some Gruntz specialists. very tempted to get side tracked, thinking Renaissance Italians! But do not hold me to that!

All the best and thanks for looking!

Monkey Business

The Blog title seems to be appropriate. Over the weekend I went to a boot fair and purchased 3 Planet of the Apes DVDs No not the Charlton Heston version, but the newer ones. Ones which I have not at the time of writing seen. The princely sum was £1.50, having not seen them I have no idea if this is money well spent , but if they are as good as the originals (I doubt it) I shall not be disappointed.

In addition I have been painting some Lucid Eye Simians! Just the 4 but I have both a Tarzan (and Jane) figures to go with them If I choose as well as some rather large apes. So If I choose I can have a "Pulp Alley" crew/gang/mob up and running in no time at all. They can of course be used in many other games, 7TV or Judge Dredd or well anything you want to think of.

They are 28mm but are quite small and despite the sixe of human comparison would struggle to fin into many other games, although one could see a giant ape in New York city if one really tried to think about it.

I must say a joy to paint and with no flash or mold lines or other casting defects. I could and would recommend them to anyone who waned some model apes as they are really easy to paint.

I am in 2 minds about what kind of base to give them so I settled on just desert. In addition as they carry weapons I was thinking they should also have a primitive marking maybe a red hand. At present I have decided against as this way they are slightly more versatile.

That's it for today thanks for popping by and I hope you liked  them but that is it for now.

All the best and enjoy the sun and weather if you can but no skin cancer. Next post in 2 days time. Until then, take care have fun and enjoy yourself.

Back on the Bounce! (Well here's hoping!)

Yeah I admit it, it has taken me a while. Now however I feel that I am back on the wargames Bounce. So what does this mean? Well hold your horses and I will tell you. It has been a couple of years since I worked on this and in many ways I am STARTING AGAIN!

I stopped working on this for 3 reasons. One,A bird (don't ask me what kind  I can just say it was little and brown!) started nesting in my garage and I chose not to disturb it. But it has gone now! Two, I had grown dissatisfied with the idea. Now I am at the stage where I am willing to work on it again. I will have a bit of a re work and bring it back from this sorry state to (HOPEFULLY) a better one! And Three a combination of decent weather allowing me to work in the garage without freezing my ********'s off, lighter evenings and a set of rules I like.

So what do I intend to change. Nope not everything! BUT CLOSE.

Firstly I want to rework the waterfall, as well as add another "Cave entrance" at the base of the fall which will be big enough to allow figures egress.

Secondly I want to remove the so called (by me) "Temple section . (3rd Pic down bottom right hand side.) This should give 4 cave entrances on that side, which I hope should be PlENTY of options. Under the water fall, 2 high up and one other. Behind the back board I want them to connect. Maybe not all, but just maybe some I will need to wait and see how it comes about.

Thirdly it Needs to be bigger. By that I actually me a 3'x 3' area and not 2' square as it currently is. So maybe the bank across the rivulet and a further 6" of cliff on the right as you look at the first picture. Also a further 1 foot coming straight towards you in the first picture. I also want it taller! It seems to me too regular across the back and that seems wrong. So by increasing the height (at least in some areas) it would look more natural. I would intend the close edge in the first pic to also be rocky as it sits it is far too regular. Maybe (speaking without thinking) there will be an overhang.... who knows!

Ok I know at least one person would ask if I did not say what rules! I am actually looking seriously at "Pulp Alley". I have the PDF and like the way the rules work and CAN see it functioning as a small participation game at shows. I know a mad idea and I need my head testing! BUT if it works what a setting it would make and  would be more than suitable for many adventures everything from Cavemen to Sci fi and everything in between! (Last of the Mohicans for example)

I will not go into figures at this stage, but I have it planned and some bought and am willing to buy some more although the rules do not require a horde of figures 7 a side is more than enough.

Thanks for reading my gibberish and plans for this board. I have an AAR for next time. And then back to painting as I work on this in peace and quiet!

Until then, take care, have fun and paint like a crazy perso!
