Yesterday at the club

Well I was not there long.  But while there I was able to play the walking Dead all out war 3 times.

The first game was mostly a dry run though to give the players an idea of the rules and the set up and just how the game worked.

Let me start by saying Ian won the first game. WE only played the basic set so really no frills at all. Just basic rules a few figures and I was referee.

Not our game just an Internet image.
I forgot the camera again
But a cool Thank you
to whom so ever posted this image
on the internet
The Second game (Yay I won) as a 3 way battle just grabbing loot and getting off of the board. very simple and very apt.

The third game was a similar set up but we moved the figures around so we all had different characters. This time I had Rick!

It was the only game where Rick got bitten by a Walker (Must remember not to say ZOMBIE!) got infected and died on the table! Guess who was controlling Rick. yeo me.

Kev won this game.

Conclusion: If playing 3 player games the "THREAT TRCKER" climbs the scale fast. Seriously fast. It was a joy that players realised quickly that making noise could be an offensive action as could running.  As if done correctly It could drag zombies into the melee and when facing 3+ zombies you were very limited in what you could do. And the chances are you would lose the melee.

Overall it was a very good game and a game we will play again. But first I need to get painting the figures as several times we were having trouble telling Walker from survivor as they were all the same colour plastic.

Changing the Subject:

I have also volunteered to paint some 28mm figures for a LOCAL show game. These will be Nappies and I do not usually paint Nappies so it will be a steep learning curve. 12 figures to a unit so I will try to get 2 units done. (3 IF I can... but aiming at 2 Units) Just to take the pressure of off another club member. SO if/when you see Napoleonic troops on this blog you do not have a fit with your leg up you now know the reason.

Additionally: Only 1 of my Purchases from my prize have so far turned up. Yes I am inpatient and am itching to get on with it. BUT hopefully a little more will arrive this week and I can do a blog post all about it. I just put this bit in as one of my club members was unaware of my win.

    1. Thank you Very much Dave. I shall look forward to those figures. (I meant no offense at all to you.)

Currently on the paint table are 5 Nappies, (I have no idea what they should look like!) 1 Walking Dead Zombie and 10 colonial Egyptians.... As well s VSF which I should finish tonight ready for my post on Wednesday.

    3. Thanks Dave, Yes very busy. Hoping to get the VSF finished tonight and maybe the Naps rushed out a few days later. (or maybe the Egyptians have to wait and see.)

  2. Great to see you getting into The Walking Dead game. I really ought to get round to doing a full review of it for my blog. I've played it a lot but I still haven't painted any of the figures for it. Hangs head in shame!

    1. Thanks Bryan. I have a zombie on the painting table at the moment, and they are a joy to paint. But as mentioned above there is a few things waiting to get finished at present.

  3. Can't help but being amused at "Rick" dying and he was yours - sounds about par for the course.
Napoleonics is a bottomless pit for those that play it, don't fall into the trap!

    1. Thanks Joe. In the 3 games Rick only got infected by a zombie bite once and yes I was controlling him at the time! (A Lurker got me and it threw the best dice and I threw the worse!).... ahh curses.

As for Napoleonic's I have managed to steer clear most of my life as it is just not a period that interest me.
But to help a friend out I am willing to try to paint some figures. (So far they look alright but I DO NOT know if they are at all... they may be completely wrong!)

    1. Thanks Matt. Managed to paint another zombie last night... now on the basing. (Along with about 3 other projects as well)

It is a good game although the base set is limiting in character/figure choice. But there are ways around that. For example making your own characters and using proxy figures. Thus 2 or more Ricks (with different names but the same stat line ) could be used. maybe even take the pic of the player and (as in Passport photo) and put that in place of the Official Cartoon Rick pic.... Just a though nothing more.

    1. Thank you Simon. I am sure you will see the game being played at a show, either as participation or Demo. That way you will get a better idea.

Resist for now. You never know 2-3 years time the craze will have died and it will be cheap on eBAY

  7. Thanks for the comments on TWD Clint - all taken on board while I stay "on the fence" about getting it!
As for Nap's, I enjoy the period, but NOT the number of players who are more interested in pointing out that 'you've used the wrong shade of paint for the coat buttons' (or similar) ;-)

    1. Thank you Addict. Every period has it's rivet counters and I think I have met many. It is possible that it has put me off of Napoleonic's. (as well as ECW)

As for TWD it is a good game. But Mantic have done a typical marketing thing by including JUST enough to get you started but not enough to offer many choices. It is almost forcing you to buy an expansion (or two).

  8. TWD suddenly seems to really be taking off imho, and its clear you enjoyed yourself with it Clint. Are you planning on getting any particular expansions or simply playing it be ear?

    1. Thanks Simon. I agree TWD game is a big hit. As for what expansions... none at present. But "Pembury" would be a good one. Let me just see how it goes. maybe some of the club will like it and maybe they will not. Only time will tell.

I also would be very interested in making some scenery and some special character which are not in the comics to make them more club member focused.

Probably VSF on Tomorrows blog... and it has rained at last! (much cooler)
